Chiefs Sign Elijah McGuire To Their Practice Squad
The Kansas City Chiefs signed running back Elijah McGuire to their practice squad on Tuesday, according to a source. McGuire will give the Chiefs some depth at the position with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (knee) going on Injured Reserve after suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee in the Week 5 loss to the Buffalo Bills. McGuire was a sixth-round pick by the New York Jets in 2017 and spent his first two years with them before joining the Chiefs in 2019 and 2020. The 27-year-old hasn't seen the field in his time with the Chiefs, but he did carry the ball 180 times for 591 yards and four touchdowns in 24 games (five starts) with the Jets. He has familiarity with the system, but it'll be Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon with increased opportunities in KC's backfield with Edwards-Helaire sidelined.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire was released Friday, according to a source. McGuire is a sneaky point-per-reception back, but he has never remained healthy. He could wind up in a spot to be worth a waiver claim later in the season. Running back Bilal Powell looks like he might stick around behind Le'Veon Bell and Ty Montgomery. Powell has sparse value right now, and he'd need an injury to have some PPR clout.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire had five catches on five targets for 35 yards in the team's final preseason game Thursday. McGuire had less success on the ground as he was only able to pick up 29 yards on 14 carries for an abysmal 2.1 yards per carry. McGuire is fighting for a roster spot behind Le'Veon Bell and Ty Montgomery who were absent Thursday. McGuire's tenure with the team and ability to catch passes out of the backfield could give him an edge up on making the team, but he won't carry any fantasy value unless there is an injury to someone above him on the depth chart.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire (ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday against the Texans. McGuire was limited in practice to close out the week, so he should be able to suit up. With Isaiah Crowell (toe) out, McGuire should lead Gang Green in backfield touches and will be on the RB3/flex radar in deeper leagues. Rookie Trenton Cannon should mix in behind him against Houston's stout front.
New York Jets running backs Elijah McGuire (ankle) and Trenton Cannon (toe) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday after sitting out on Tuesday. It puts both on track to play on Saturday against the Texans. It's important with Isaiah Crowell (toe) seemingly unlikely to suit up this weekend. McGuire is a candidate for a waiver addition for the desperate, and he should be seen as no more than an RB3/flex option if Crowell is inactive.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire rushed six times for 19 yards and caught one pass for seven yards in the Week 12 loss to the Patriots. Isaiah Crowell is the lead back for the Jets, but he only saw six rushing attempts as well. Quarterback Josh McCown threw 45 times during Week 12, so the Jets didn't do much work on the ground. McGuire belongs on the waiver wire in most leagues. The Jets running game is non-existent this season.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire took a clear backseat to Isaiah Crowell in Week 9, but he could be a sneaky fantasy play this week against the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo has been susceptible to rushing touchdowns over the past three games, and McGuire could see something closer to Crowell's workload this week after outsnapping him in Week 9. Expect Crowell to still see the bulk of the carries, but McGuire's ability in the passing game could lead to something like 10 to 15 total touches, enough for him to bust off some strong plays.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire made his season debut in Week 9, but it didn't go perfectly. McGuire rushed seven times for 30 yards and caught three passes for 37 yards in the loss to the Dolphins. McGuire actually performed better than lead back Isaiah Crowell, but was given less opportunities. Crowell has struggled over the last month, but it doesn't sound like the Jets are considering a change at running back. McGuire will continue to have a limited ceiling as the backup. He could be worth a stash for owners in desperate need of running back help.
New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire (foot) is likely to be activated from Injured Reserve on Saturday and has a good shot of playing in Week 9 against the Dolphins. Head coach Todd Bowles said McGuire is "trending toward playing." It's unclear how much we might see McGuire play in his first game of the year, but it's notable with receivers Robby Anderson (ankle) and Quincy Enunwa (ankle) expected to be out again. McGuire's presence hurts rookie Trenton Cannon moving forward. Stash McGuire now in deeper PPR leagues.
The New York Post's Brian Costello expects the New York Jets to activate running back Elijah McGuire (foot) from Injured Reserve on Saturday. McGuire has looked good on the practice field and is expected to return in Week 9 against the Dolphins. It's good news for Gang Green with Bilal Powell (neck) out for the rest of the year. However, it's bad news for rookie Trenton Cannon, although we can't expect McGuire to see much of a workload if he's indeed active this Sunday. McGuire is definitely a stash candidate right now, especially for owners desperate for depth at the position in PPR formats.
