Tennessee Titans running back Trenton Cannon has been elevated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's bout against the New York Giants. The Titans already have four players at the position, so he probably won't see any work out of the backfield. Instead, Cannon will likely spend most of his time with the special teams unit, so fantasy managers shouldn't consider adding him.
San Francisco 49ers running back Trenton Cannon (head, neck) was taken off the field by an ambulance. In the grand scheme of things, Cannon's fantasy impact means nothing relative to his health. This looked like a severe injury and hopefully he's OK. Cannon has only had one rushing attempt with the 49ers, so rookie Trey Sermon's (ankle) roster spot will mostly be for his skills on special teams, but it's something to note nevertheless. Still, by far the most significant aspect of this news is keeping Cannon's health in mind. Sermon sprained his ankle last week and was placed on Injured Reserve on Saturday, so he'll miss two games in addition to Week 13.
The San Francisco 49ers claimed running back Trenton Cannon off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday. Cannon had just two carries for five yards while working behind Ty'Son Williams and Latavius Murray in Baltimore's Monday night overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The 49ers can use some more running back depth with Raheem Mostert out for the rest of the season and with Jeff Wilson on Injured Reserve. However, Cannon won't be guaranteed to be on the gameday roster with rookies Elijah Mitchell and Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty ahead of him. In three NFL seasons heading into 2021, Cannon has only 50 carries for 151 yards and one touchdown in 35 games (no starts) for the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.
The Baltimore Ravens released running back Trenton Cannon on Tuesday, which means that Ty'Son Williams and Latavius Murray are currently the only running backs on the active roster. The Ravens also placed offensive lineman Tyre Phillips (knee) on Injured Reserve after he was carted off the field in Monday night's overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Cannon had just two carries for five yards against the Raiders while working behind Williams and Murray. With veterans Le'Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman lurking on the practice squad, the Ravens decided they didn't need Cannon. Williams was used heavily in the first half on Monday, but Murray was the preferred back of choice by Baltimore to close the game out. It looks like both backs will continue to be involved, and Bell and/or Freeman will likely join the active roster once they are comfortable with the offense.
The Baltimore Ravens have signed running back Trenton Cannon to their active roster after losing J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Justice Hill (Achilles) to season-ending injuries. Cannon was signed to the 53-man roster because of his ability to play on special teams, which is a role that needed to be filled after the loss of Hill. Gus Edwards will serve as the lead back, and there are reports that Ty'Son Williams will be given an opportunity to be the No. 2 running back. Le'Veon Bell was added to the practice squad, but he figures to eventually be promoted to the active roster. So, Cannon doesn't figure to have any fantasy value because of the crowded running back room in Baltimore. He can be disregarded in all scoring formats and league sizes for now.
With Carolina Panthers running back Reggie Bonnafon (ankle) going on Injured Reserve this week, head coach Matt Rhule said that running back Trenton Cannon will serve as Mike Davis' backup. All-Pro Christian McCaffrey (ankle) is also on IR, so Carolina's running back depth is being tested. It's worth noting, but Cannon is unlikely to receive any fantasy run as long as Davis remains healthy, with McCaffrey hopefully returning from his high ankle injury in a few weeks. Davis should continue to see the lion's share of the backfield work in Week 5 against an 0-4 Falcons team. Ignore Cannon and treat Davis as a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 this weekend.
New York Jets running backs Elijah McGuire (ankle) and Trenton Cannon (toe) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday after sitting out on Tuesday. It puts both on track to play on Saturday against the Texans. It's important with Isaiah Crowell (toe) seemingly unlikely to suit up this weekend. McGuire is a candidate for a waiver addition for the desperate, and he should be seen as no more than an RB3/flex option if Crowell is inactive.
New York Jets running back Trenton Cannon (ankle, foot) was inactive for Thursday's preseason game against the Washington Redskins. He continues to lag behind wide receiver Andre Roberts in the competition for both the kickoff return and punt return competitions. If Cannon is going to make the 53-man roster, he is going to have to be a monster on special teams. He isn't likely to make much of an impact, at least initially, in a backfield which includes Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell and former Seattle Seahawks starter Thomas Rawls. For now, Cannon is only worth drafting in fantasy leagues which include individual return yardage.
New York Jets rookie running back Trenton Cannon has been turning heads in training camp with his speed and was one of the stars in a scrimmage at Rutgers, running for 50 yards on 10 carries with two catches for 13 yards. He has become the leading candidate for the No. 3 job with Elijah McGuire out with a broken foot. Cannon was a sixth-round pick that could also factor in on special teams as a kick returner. He ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. That dudes fast, linebacker Darron Lee said. He might be a buck eighty on a good day, but that dude is fast. You better make sure you get the edge on him because hes got some wiggle to him, too. Its more than just straight-line speed. I like his work ethic. For now, Cannon is just a name to keep an eye on in dynasty and deeper leagues.
