San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek (back, concussion) sat out of organized team activities with a residual back injury from last year and remains in the concussion protocol. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Celek will remain in the protocol until training camp this summer. He also sat out this week because he needed back surgery this offseason, and he could miss the beginning of training camp as a result. The 31-year-old could easily be forced to begin the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list and won't even be a fantasy option behind George Kittle if he's healthy. Celek had just five receptions for 90 yards and two scores in 15 games last year.
Garrett Celek Won't Be Cleared Until Training Camp
San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek (concussion) remains in the concussion protocol and will not be cleared until at least training camp. The backup to George Kittle had just five catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games for the Niners last season. He'll turn 31 next month and won't be fantasy relevant in 2019 unless Kittle goes down with an injury during the season.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek (thumb) underwent thumb surgery following the season. General manager John Lynch called the procedure a "straightforward thing" and it doesn't sound like Celek will miss the offseason program. Celek played in 15 games last season, but apparently he played through a broken thumb for the majority of the year. As the blocking complement to George Kittle, Celek had only five catches (eight targets) for 90 yards and two touchdowns. He won't be worth drafting in the majority of 2019 leagues.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (calf) and tight end Garrett Celek (concussion) have both been ruled out for Week 17's season finale against the Rams. Goodwin was a popular breakout candidate in the preseason, but he's been a bust mostly because of injuries in 2018. He'll finish with 23 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns in only 11 games in his second year with San Fran. Kendrick Bourne and tight end George Kittle will be the team's top two aerial weapons to finish off the season.
Marquise Goodwin, Garrett Celek Dealing With Injuries
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (calf) and tight end Garrett Celek (concussion) are dealing with injuries heading into the Week 17 season finale against the Rams. Their statuses will be updated during practice on Wednesday. Goodwin has dealt with injuries off and on the whole season and has been a fantasy bust after being a popular preseason breakout candidate. He has just one 100-yard game on the year and 23 catches, but he would serve as the top wideout in Week 17 with Dante Pettis (knee) being shut down. Goodwin would merely be a WR4/flex or DFS sleeper if he plays. Celek isn't fantasy relevant behind George Kittle.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek caught two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks. Celeks 41-yard touchdown in the second quarter was his first catch since Week 3. His yardage total for the year spiked from 29 to 90 after the big game. The Seahawks focused on containing fellow tight end George Kittle, opening opportunities for Celek. With just five catches on the year, hes not on the fantasy radar.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek (quadriceps) was a full participant in practice on Friday after being limited in practice on Thursday. Celek should be fine to play but will once again be off the fantasy radar while being behind George Kittle (knee), who has practiced on a limited basis the last two days. Celek has caught just three of four targets for 29 yards and a touchdown on the season.
George Kittle, Garrett Celek, Richard Sherman Limited
San Francisco 49ers tight ends George Kittle (knee) and Garrett Celek (quadriceps) and cornerbacks Richard Sherman (calf) and Jimmie Ward (hamstring) were all limited in practice on Thursday. All should play on Monday night against the Packers. Kittle has been a top tight end this year with 23 catches on 35 targets for 399 yards and a touchdown. Keep him locked in as a strong TE1. Celek has no fantasy value as the backup. Sherman and Ward have the unenviable task of trying to slow down Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who could be getting back receivers Randall Cobb (hamstring) and Geronimo Allison (concussion, hamstring).
San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek (knee, rib) is active in Week 16 against the Jaguars. Celek has back-to-back weeks with touchdowns with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo taking over under center down the stretch, but Celek remains a low-upside TE2 with George Kittle also in play for the Niners. The Jaguars present a bad matchup as well.
San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek (knee, ribs) is expected to play on Sunday. Celek has been dealing with the knee issue and has been able to play despite the ailment but only recently picked up the rib issue during the matchup against the Titans. He practiced during the week in a limited capacity, which is always a good sign that he should be good enough to go, but fantasy owners will still want to confirm his status prior to kickoff. Nonetheless, Celek will be going up against an opposing Jacksonville defense that has allowed only four touchdowns to opposing tight ends this season, so dispatch him with caution.
