Formers San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway is expected to sign a one-year, $4 million deal that includes $3 million fully guaranteed with the Houston Texans, according to a source. Ridgeway finished the 2022 season on Injured Reserve after suffering a pectoral strain in Week 13. The 28-year-old played in 12 games (seven starts) and recorded a career-high 28 tackles (14 solo), one sack and four QB hits in his lone season with the Niners in 2022. Ridgeway was originally a fourth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. In his seven NFL seasons, he has produced 108 tackles (56 solo), 10.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 24 QB hits and a forced fumble in 77 games (19 starts).
The San Francisco 49ers placed defensive lineman Hassan Ridgeway (pectoral) on Injured Reserve on Thursday and promoted cornerback Janoris Jenkins and wide receiver Willie Snead IV to the active roster from the practice squad for Thursday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Ridgeway strained his pectoral muscle in Week 13 and will now miss the last four games of the regular season, but the 28-year-old could be available for the first round of the postseason as long as he doesn't suffer a setback along the way. The Niners are getting thin on the interior of their defensive line late in the year. T.Y. McGill and Akeem Spence will see more playing time with Ridgeway sidelined for at least four weeks.
Free-agent defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday on a one-year, $2.5 million deal with $1 million fully guaranteed, according to a source. Ridgeway is an experienced and versatile defensive tackle and will be a key piece of the 49ers defensive line rotation next season. He has six years in the league after stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles. The former fourth-round pick of the Colts in 2016 out of Texas spent his first three years in Indy before joining the Eagles. Ridgeway had 20 tackles (10 solo), five QB hits, two sacks and a forced fumble in 17 games for Philly in 2021, but he started just one game.
Hassan Ridgeway Taken to Locker Room Following Concussion Protocol
Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway was taken into the locker room following concussion protocol early against the Broncos. Ridgeway has been effective on the defensive line as he's been successful in taking away blocks on running plays. Though a rookie, his presence is crucial for the Colts defense. Already hindered by a number of other injuries, Indianapolis will look for Zach Kerr to play a bigger role on the interior of the defensive line.
