Jake Funk News
Detroit Lions running back Jake Funk led the backfield with 10 carries for 40 yards in the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. The 26-year-old also caught one of his four targets for a two-yard touchdown. Considering Funk only has four carries in his professional career and had an underwhelming first two preseason games, this big showing could help determine his future on this Lions team. Funk is not currently listed on the Lions depth chart and may not make the 53-man roster, but it could be a wildcard and a player to keep on your watchlist.

Lions Add Jake Funk To Practice Squad
The Detroit Lions signed running back Jake Funk and offensive lineman Matt Farniok to their practice squad on Wednesday and placed running back Jermar Jefferson (undisclosed) on the practice squad Injured Reserve and released linebacker Raymond Johnson from the practice squad in corresponding moves. Funk was a seventh-round selection by the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. He has only four rushing attempts in his three NFL seasons, with two of them coming in four games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023. Funk was most recently on the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad this season before being cut earlier this month. The 26-year-old will give the Lions extra RB depth with Jefferson unable to play the rest of the postseason.

Colts Sign Jake Funk, Cut Phillip Lindsay
The Indianapolis Colts signed running back Jake Funk to their practice squad on Thursday and released running back Phillip Lindsay from the practice squad in a corresponding move. In five games for the Los Angeles Rams this year, Funk saw one snap on offense. The former seventh-round pick in 2021 played in 10 games in LA in his rookie season and returned four kicks on special teams. The 24-year-old from Maryland will strictly serve as emergency RB depth for the Colts now. Lindsay saw action in three games for the Colts this year when Jonathan Taylor (ankle) was sidelined, carrying the ball 15 times for 49 yards while catching six of his eight targets for 19 additional yards. He'll look to latch on with a new team to provide RB depth.

Jake Funk Signs With Saints Practice Squad
Former Los Angeles Rams running back Jake Funk, who cleared waivers on Wednesday, signed with the New Orleans Saints practice squad, according to a source. Funk played just one offensive snap with the Rams this year before he was waived on Tuesday. In New Orleans, he'll serve as running back depth behind Alvin Kamara (ribs), Mark Ingram II and Dwayne Washington. Tight end Taysom Hill was the team's best RB in the Week 5 win over the Seattle Seahawks, and he's expected to remain heavily involved moving forward. Funk, a former seventh-round pick by the Rams in 2021, had just two carries for five yards in 10 games (zero starts) in his rookie season last year.

Jake Funk Racks Up 26 Yards from Scrimmage
Los Angeles Rams running back Jake Funk rushed for 16 yards on six carries in Saturday's 29-22 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. He also caught one pass for ten yards on two targets. Funk, who is third on the depth chart, was the starter at running back and left the game after two drives. He finished with fewer carries and yards than fellow running backs Raymond Calais and A.J. Rose but more than Trey Ragas. With Rams head coach Sean McVay typically keeping his starters off the field during preseason, Funk will have more opportunities in the next two preseason games against the Texans and Bengals.

Jake Funk, Johnny Mundt Land On Injured Reserve
Los Angeles Rams rookie running back Jake Funk (hamstring) and backup tight end Johnny Mundt (knee) will both go on Injured Reserve, according to head coach Sean McVay. Funk tore his hamstring in the Week 6 win over the New York Giants, while Mundt tore his ACL. Mundt will undergo season-ending surgery, while surgery has also been recommended for Funk. Mundt had been serving as the blocking tight end behind Tyler Higbee and had just one catch on the season. Jacob Harris will now serve as the immediate backup behind Higbee for the rest of the year. Funk had just one carry for six yards in his first six NFL games behind Darrell Henderson Jr. and Sony Michel, and he'll now miss the rest of his rookie season.

Jake Funk Ruled Out
Los Angeles Rams running back Jake Funk (hamstring) has been ruled out of the rest of the team's Week 6 game against the New York Giants. Funk didn't record an offensive stat in the game, making it the third week in a row that Funk hasn't had a carry. His only offensive touch of the season was in Week 3, so this injury doesn't impact much in Los Angeles aside from special teams, as Funk did have an 18-yard kickoff return in Sunday's game.

Jake Funk Survives Final Roster Cuts
Los Angeles Rams running back Jake Funk was in a hotly contested battle for the team's third running back spot behind Darrell Henderson Jr. and Sony Michel with former teammate Xavier Jones. Funk had been the better of the two runners in the preseason, but it was still not a guarantee that he was going to claim the final roster spot in the backfield. On Tuesday afternoon, he was shown as the final running back on the depth chart. While he doesn't possess a ton of fantasy value initially, with the two players in front of him not being known for their health, Funk could be worth an interesting stash in especially deep leagues.

Rams Take Running Back Jake Funk
With the 233rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams have selected Maryland running back Jake Funk. Funk had multiple ACL injuries in college, but then had a solid senior season, with 60 carries for 516 yards in four games. If healthy, Funk could find some playing time, but the best projection for his 2021 season is that he'll contribute on special teams and will be used sparingly in the backfield, if at all.
