The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran safety Jaquiski Tartt on Monday, according to a source. Tartt was originally a second-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2015 out of Samford. Before signing with the Eagles earlier this offseason, Tartt spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Niners, racking up 367 tackles (265 solo), 21 tackles for loss, nine QB hits, four sacks, four interceptions, 18 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 80 games (64 starts). In 14 regular season starts in 2021, the 30-year-old had 66 tackles (42 solo), five tackles for loss and a pass defensed. The veteran safety will now look for work on the open market.
The San Francisco 49ers are re-signing safety Jaquiski Tartt to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday, according to sources. A second-round pick back in 2015, Tartt has missed 36 out of a possible 64 games during the last four seasons due to injuries, but he's been excellent for the 49ers secondary when he's on the field. Tartt has a knack for limiting explosive plays on defense and typically avoids mental lapses in coverage. During the team's Super Bowl run in 2019, he allowed just two yards per target. Tartt and Tarvarius Moore should be the team's starting safeties in 2021, and veteran Jimmie Ward brings valuable experience as well.
49ers Defense Loses Jaquiski Tartt For Rest Of Season
San Francisco 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2020 year due to turf toe, adding to the injury woes that have severely hampered the team this season. Tartt, who has been often injured over the past four years, leaves a void in the secondary that will likely be filled by Marcell Harris. A prevalence of injuries to all aspects of the 49ers Defense has knocked the once-vaunted group far from its pedestal as a top season-long unit, and with a daunting matchup against the Saints on the horizon Sunday, they're a longshot to be rostered in the vast majority of formats. Having gone the last two weeks without a turnover (and having allowed a combined 71 points), fantasy managers can look elsewhere for a defense, especially with the knowledge that Tartt will not be available as an anchor on the back end.
49ers Defense Loses Jaquiski Tartt To Injured Reserve
The San Francisco 49ers placed safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday. They also promoted running back Austin Walter to the active roster and signed quarterback Josh Johnson to their practice squad. Tartt suffered a toe injury in last Thursday's blowout loss to the Packers after missing the previous two games with a groin injury. He'll now have to miss at least the next three weeks, further depleting the Niners once strong defense. San Francisco's defense isn't a strong fantasy option this week against another tough offense in the Saints, a team that just got their All-Pro receiver back in Michael Thomas. They dropped 38 points on a solid Buccaneers Defense last Sunday night.
San Francisco 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe), who was ruled out on Thursday night with a foot injury, is believed to have suffered turf toe based on his initial diagnosis, according to a source. Tartt will have tests on Friday to confirm the injury. As if the 49ers needed anymore injuries. The 49ers Defense was thrashed to the tune of 34 points in the Thursday night loss, with Packers quarterback Aaron Jones and the Green Bay offense pretty much imposing their will on San Francisco all night long. Tartt will have extra time to heal before the Week 10 showdown against the Saints, but turf-toe injuries can often keep players out for multiple weeks, so there's no guarantee that Tartt will be available next week.
San Francisco 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) is inactive for Week 3 against the Chiefs. The good news is that cornerback Richard Sherman will be playing, so hopefully he can help slow down an extremely talented and high-powered Chiefs passing game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has 10 touchdowns through two weeks, so it'll be no easy task for the San Fran secondary without Tartt. Wide receiver Richie James is a healthy scratch.
San Francisco 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) was limited in practice on Friday and is questionable for Week 3 against the Chiefs. Tartt is relevant in IDP leagues, but you may need to find another option this weekend. After not practicing Wednesday or Thursday, it's a good sign that he was able to at least get in a limited practice on Friday. San Fran could use all the help they can get to slow down Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has 10 touchdowns over two weeks.
San Francisco 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) did not practice on Wednesday. Tartt is a strong IDP defensive back when he's on the field, but it remains to be seen if he can play this weekend against a very strong Chiefs offense. The 26-year-old has eight tackles in the first two games of the season. San Fran will need him to slow down Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has 10 touchdowns in the first two weeks.
