Jeff Wilson Jr. News
The San Francisco 49ers re-signed restricted free-agent running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to a one-year deal on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 25-year-old has 974 rushing yards in his three seasons with San Francisco and posted career- and team-highs of 126 carries, 600 yards and seven touchdowns in 2020. He saw more playing time throughout the year due to injuries to Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman, but Wilson also played in just 12 games (three starts) due to ailments of his own. He finished with 733 total yards and 10 touchdowns. Wilson could have a bigger role to begin the year next to Mostert, as both Coleman and Jerick McKinnon could leave in free agency. If Wilson is sharing backfield touches only with Mostert, he'll be an RB3/flex with more upside in PPR formats.
San Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson Jr. continued his strong finish to the year in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson rushed 20 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three of his seven targets for 12 yards and a score. The 49ers really leaned heavily on Wilson down the stretch and he certainly delivered. Wilson is a free agent after this year and he's going to be someone worth keeping an eye on. Raheem Mostert (knee) was the team's primary rusher when healthy this year. He will be back with the team next year. If Wilson re-signs, he and Mostert might be in a competition for the team's No. 1 back role next year.
San Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is in a great spot going into Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson rushed 22 times for 183 yards and added a 21-yard touchdown reception in Week 16. This week, he should see a similar workload as he's the team's clear No. 1 running back. The Seahawks have a strong run defense, allowing 96.2 rushing yards per game, but 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has a long track record of success against strong run defenses and the quantity of touches alone for Wilson should allow him to overcome any potential low efficiency. Start Wilson as a high-end RB2 with RB1 upside in Week 17.
