Detroit Lions wide receiver Jermaine Kearse suffered a broken leg plus an ankle injury in Thursday's preseason meeting with the New England Patriots. It was a gruesome looking injury and while Kearse could theoretically return from a broken leg this season, the fact that Kearse reportedly suffered multiple injuries on the play does put his ability to play this year in serious doubt, though we'll wait for confirmation to officially say he's done. Danny Amendola is likely going to be Detroit's main slot option now and has some intrigue in deeper leagues.
The Detroit Lions signed free-agent wide receiver Jermaine Kearse to an undisclosed deal on Thursday, according to a source. The 29-year-old will provide depth behind Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola. Kearse had 37 receptions for 371 yards and a touchdown in 14 games in his final season with the Jets in 2018. Unless an injury occurs ahead of him, Kearse won't be attractive in most fantasy leagues.
New York Jets wide receivers Quincy Enunwa (ankle) and Jermaine Kearse (Achilles) have been ruled out for Week 17 against the Patriots. Neither Enunwa nor Kearse have been on anyone's fantasy radar for a while, so this won't have much impact on those playing for a fantasy championship this weekend. Robby Anderson has become rookie quarterback Sam Darnold's go-to receiving target and will have WR2 upside in the season finale. Tight end Chris Herndon IV should also benefit with more targets.
Quincy Enunwa, Jermaine Kearse Sitting Out Thursday
New York Jets wide receivers Quincy Enunwa (ankle) and Jermaine Kearse (Achilles) are both absent from practice for the second straight day on Thursday. It means both receivers are highly unlikely to play in Week 17 against the Patriots. Neither had been fantasy relevant of late anyway. It means that Robby Anderson and some combination of Andre Roberts, Charone Peake and rookie Deontay Burnett will be Gang Green's receivers on Sunday. Anderson and tight end Chris Herndon IV are the only ones worth considering with a fantasy championship on the line.
New York Jets wide receivers Quincy Enunwa (ankle) and Jermaine Kearse (Achilles) were not practicing on Wednesday. Both seem like long shots to play in Week 17 against the Patriots. If that's the case, Robby Anderson, Andre Roberts, Charone Peake and rookie Deontay Burnett would be the active receivers. Anderson has been hot in recent weeks and would be the only Jets receiver worth starting in fantasy lineups.
New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said that wide receiver Jermaine Kearse (Achilles) suffered an Achilles injury in Week 16 against the Packers and is having tests done on Monday. Kearse had four catches for 55 yards on Sunday, which was actually one of his better games of the season. Even with Quincy Enunwa (ankle) out, Kearse has failed to make an impact for fantasy owners and can't be trusted if he plays in the season finale against the Patriots. Robby Anderson is the only Jets wideout that is fantasy relevant to close out the year.
New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse was one of the few bright spots for the Jets in the Week 12 loss to the Patriots. Kearse was targeted a season-high 12 times during the 27-13 loss. He hauled in six of those targets for 66 yards and a touchdown. Kearse is targeted quite often in the Jets passing game, but usually doesn't do much with it. He's not a trustworthy option right now and belongs on the waiver wire in most leagues.
New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse led the Jets in targets against the Dolphins, but was sadly unable to do much with it. Kearse only caught three passes for 20 yards in the 13-6 loss. He saw eight targets even with Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson back on the field. Quarterback Sam Darnold has not been able to get anything going in the passing game this season. It's hard to believe Kearse is going to have much fantasy value on a weekly basis. The targets are coming his way, but he's better left on the waiver wire.
Jermaine Kearse Struggles To Make More Of Opportunity
New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse struggled to make more of the opportunity that came his way against the Chicago Bears. Kearse was given 10 targets in the game but was only able to catch three of them for 30 yards. Kearse looked to struggle as the primary passing option, as he wasn't able to get separation from the defense in an attack missing two starting wide receivers. Kearse will hope to bounce back against a weaker Miami Dolphins secondary this coming week.
New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse caught nine of his 10 targets against the Colts on Sunday, finishing the day with 94 yards. With wide receiver Quincy Enunwa departing the contest prematurely with an ankle injury, Kearse got some extra looks from quarterback Sam Darnold. If Enunwa is unable to play next Sunday against the Vikings, look for Kearse to take on an expanded role, but not without risk if you have him on your fantasy roster.
