Cardinals Request To Interview Joel Thomas For OC Position
The Arizona Cardinals have requested to interview New Orleans Saints running backs coach Joel Thomas for their offensive coordinator position, according to a source. In addition to Thomas, Arizona has also requested to interview Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach Drew Petzing and Washington Commanders wide receivers coach Drew Terrell. New head coach Jonathan Gannon, previously the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, is looking to find a new offensive coordinator heading into 2023. The Cardinals fired offensive-minded head coach Kliff Kingsbury after the 2022 season and could have a completely different offensive identity in 2023 and beyond under their new offensive coordinator, and they could also trade wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins this offseason.
The Chicago Bears signed inside linebacker Joe Thomas to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday. Thomas has been a core special teams player throughout his career and also has the ability to step in as a starter on defense when needed. The 30-year-old debuted in the NFL in 2015 with the Green Bay Packers and played three years for them before going to the Dallas Cowboys from 2018-20. Thomas appeared in seven games (two starts) for the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans last season, recording 13 tackles (nine solo). He'll be trying to earn a spot on Chicago's active roster in training camp this summer. In 89 NFL games (16 starts), Thomas has 218 tackles (151 solo), 12 tackles for loss, eight QB hits, one interception, 10 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 1.5 sacks.
The Dallas Cowboys and free agent linebacker Joe Thomas agreed to terms on a contract. Thomas was a key special teams player for Green Bay, but was not tendered a contract as a restricted free agent. He'll work behind Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee on defense, but should have a weekly role on special teams.
Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas is expected to make a decision soon about whether he will continue his playing career or retire. The future Hall of Fame left tackle suffered a torn triceps during the 2017 season, which caused him to miss game time for the first time in his NFL career. Thomas spoke at the Positive Coaching Alliance on Tuesday night and told the audience that his announcement is "right around the corner." He continued to state, "As far as a decision goes, we're still kind of working through that process." There's a good chance he could make up his mind by Wednesday at 4:00 PM, when the new league year officially opens. The Browns have been active in securing reinforcements in case Thomas retires, signing free-agent offensive linemen Chris Hubbard and Donald Stephenson. They were also rumored to be interested in Nate Solder, who opted to sign with the New York Giants on Wednesday morning.
Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas is "still working" through his decision on whether he will return for a 12th season in 2018. He has set a date of March 14 (the start of free agency) as the moment when he wants to have made his decision. Thomas has been rehabbing a triceps injury that put him on Injured Reserve last year, and his health is the biggest factor in his decision whether to return. The 33-year-old Thomas has been one of the better offensive tackles in the NFL during his career, so his return would go a long way in keeping Cleveland's quarterback healthy in 2018.
Browns Make Joe Thomas Highest-Paid Offensive Lineman
The Cleveland Browns amended Joe Thomas' contract this past week, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league for the 2018 season. Cleveland's new contract with Thomas includes $3 million of new money, giving Thomas a $1.5 million raise in both 2017 and 2018. The 10-year veteran will now take home $10.3 million for his services in the 2018 season. Thomas was lost for the season earlier in the month after suffering a torn left triceps and underwent surgery a few weeks ago.
Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas went for surgery on Tuesday morning to repair a torn left triceps muscle. He told the media that the recovery is expected to takesix to ninemonths in what will be a long road back. There has been some speculation about whether Thomas will return to the league next season or retire in the offseason. He told reporters that it is still too soon to decide whether he will continue his career in 2018. Thomas' absence leaves a gigantic hole on the left side of the Browns' line, a spot they haven't had to worry about for the past decade.
An MRI Monday confirmed that Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas suffered a torn left triceps during Week 7's loss to the Tennessee Titans. Thomas was placed on injured reserve Monday and the team has announced that his season is over. Spencer Drango filled in for Thomas at left tackle this past Sunday but there's a chance the Browns could shift Joel Bitonio or Shon Coleman down the line to fill the opening. Thomas will see a streak of 167 consecutive starts snapped this Sunday when he doesn't take the field in London. He is scheduled to go for surgery to repair the tear.
Cleveland Browns All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas is believed to have torn his left triceps during Sunday's 12-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Thomas went down in the third quarter, snapping his streak of 10,363 consecutive snaps, which dated back to his first NFL game back in 2007. Thomas will go for an MRI on Monday to confirm the injury. If it is confirmed he tore his triceps it will be a season-ender for Thomas. The loss of the future Hall of Famer downgrades an already struggling Browns offense. Spencer Drango replaced Thomas at left tackle during the game, although it isn't clear whether it will be him as the long-term solution at left tackle. Joel Bitonio and Shon Coleman were both mentioned as possible replacements at left tackle, as well.
