Joey Bosa Agrees To Join The Bills

Five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa reached an agreement on Tuesday night on a one-year, $12.6 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. Bosa will essentially replace veteran pass-rusher Von Miller, who was cut by the Bills over the weekend. The 29-year-old former third overall pick by the Chargers in 2016 out of Ohio State had offers from the San Francisco 49ers (he could have joined forces with his brother Nick) and the Miami Dolphins, but he ultimately chose to head to the AFC East to join a Bills team that came very close to advancing to the Super Bowl last year. Bosa has 62 sacks in nine NFL seasons as a premier pass-rushing talent, but injuries have slowed him down in recent years and made him a shell of his former self. He's no longer a must-draft in IDP leagues and could serve in a rotational role in Buffalo alongside Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa.

49ers, Dolphins Have Made Offers To Joey Bosa

The San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins have each made offers to free-agent edge rusher Joey Bosa in the same relative price range, according to The Athletic's Michael Silver. The former Los Angeles Chargers pass-rusher would receive less than $10 million in 2025 in either scenario. Bosa, the former third overall pick by the Chargers in 2016 out of Ohio State, was a salary cap casualty for the Bolts this offseason because of the fact that he just couldn't stay on the field due to injuries. The 29-year-old five-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Rookie of the Year managed to play in 14 regular-season games (nine starts) in 2024 in his final season in L.A. and had 22 tackles (17 solo), five sacks, five tackles for loss, 13 QB hits and two forced fumbles. He can still be effective as more of a situational pass-rusher, and if he signs in San Fran, he'd have the opportunity to play opposite his brother Nick.

Miami Showing Interest In Joey Bosa

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, defensive end Joey Bosa is expected to "garner strong interest" from the Miami Dolphins. It is known that the Ohio State alum is looking to play with his brother, Nick, in San Francisco. However, the veteran could help any number of teams if he can stay healthy, and the Dolphins certainly qualify, as they recorded the sixth-fewest sacks of any team in 2024. Health is the question, though, considering Bosa has played just 28 of a possible 51 games since the 2022 season while dealing with a litany of injuries. Still, the long-time Charger is capable of providing some juice on the front seven, and not many teams require pass-rush help like the Dolphins. Stay tuned.

Joey Bosa, 49ers Making Progress On A Deal

Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard reports that defensive end Joey Bosa and the San Francisco 49ers are having "good conversations" and it feels like it's "headed toward a deal." The Los Angeles Chargers recently released the 29-year-old after he spent his entire nine-year career with the team. While nothing is set in stone, reports have swirled that the former third-overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft wanted to play alongside his brother, Nick Bosa, and it appears that this could become a reality. Furthermore, San Francisco has been on the search for a complement to their star pass-rusher, and due to age and injury concerns -- with Joey Bosa appearing in just 28 games since the start of the 2022 season -- they'd likely get him on a discount. The Ohio State product has registered 72 sacks in 107 career games and was once a feared game-wrecker on the Chargers defensive front. If he can put the health concerns behind him, it stands to reason that 2025 could be a resurgent season for the veteran.

49ers Could Sign Joey Bosa

Long-time Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa was released by the organization on Wednesday, and according to Cam Inman of The Mercury News, the San Francisco 49ers could be interested in reuniting Bosa with his brother. The team needs a complementary rusher opposite Nick Bosa, and Joey Bosa could be a value on the open market given his age and injury concerns. Bosa was a five-time Pro Bowler with the Chargers, but he played in just 28 games over the last three years and collected 14 sacks during that stretch. Bosa is free to sign at any point this offseason since he was released, so if the 49ers are interested, the signing could happen sooner rather than later.

Chargers Release Joey Bosa

The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Wednesday that they have released five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa. The Chargers decided Bosa's $36.47 million salary cap hit in 2025 wasn't justified for a declining pass-rusher that played in only 28 games over the last three seasons due to various injuries. By releasing him, the Bolts will only take on $11.11 in dead money. The 29-year-old former third overall selection in 2016 out of Ohio State played in 14 games (nine starts) in 2024 and finished with just 22 tackles (17 solo), five sacks, five tackles for loss, 13 QB hits and two forced fumbles. He hasn't had a double-digit-sack season since 2021. Bosa will have a market in free agency, but fantasy managers in IDP formats should be passing in 2025 given his inability to stay on the field regularly in recent seasons.

Chargers Could Retain Joey Bosa

Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said he feels it's realistic to keep linebacker Joey Bosa at his $36.4 million salary cap number in 2025. "I know he wants to retire a charger. .. I'd love for him to retire a Charger. I love Joey -- the teammate, the competitor," Hortiz said. Bosa is scheduled to make $25.36 million this year, with nearly half of it coming in the form of a $12.36 million roster bonus due in March. None of the 29-year-old's 2025 money is guaranteed, but if they do want to bring him back, they will have to decide on that before his roster bonus is due. Many folks think that the Chargers would be better off cutting Bosa, who had only five sacks in 14 games in 2024, but he could be a priority to retain since fellow pass-rusher Khalil Mack will be an unrestricted free agent and can't be franchise-tagged. Bosa, who is as injury-prone as ever, no longer appears to be a dominant pass-rusher in the NFL.

Something Has To Give With Joey Bosa

The Athletic's Daniel Popper suggests that Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa could be a salary cap casualty this offseason for several reasons. The Chargers do have the sixth-most salary cap space in the league, but even with all that space, keeping Bosa at his $36.47 million cap hit (highest in the league for an edge rusher) in 2025 doesn't make much sense. If they were to cut Bosa, they'd save $25.36 million. Due to injuries, the 29-year-old has played in only 28 of a possible 51 regular-season games in the last three years. He has 14 combined sacks in that span. Bosa's production and availability just have not matched that price tag. He doesn't appear to be the dominant pass-rusher he once was and recorded only 22 tackles (17 solo) and five sacks in 14 games (nine starts) for the Bolts in 2024. Injuries have definitely taken their toll.

Joey Bosa Could Be Cap Casualty In The Offseason

According to Bill Barnwell of ESPN.com, Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa could be a cap casualty during the offseason. Barnwell noted that Bosa logged only 14 games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons and missed three games this past season. During the season, Bosa could not log more than 20 defensive snaps in four contests. However, the former third-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft took a pay cut last season and may have to do the same again to remain on the Chargers heading into 2025. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Bosa's status during the offseason, as he could be released due to his high salary and inability to remain on the field. This past season, Bosa tallied just 22 tackles with five sacks. This was his third straight season failing to tally double-digit sacks.

Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack Both Questionable For Week 10

Los Angeles Chargers outside linebackers Joey Bosa (hip) and Khalil Mack (groin) are both listed as questionable to face off against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10 on Sunday. In addition, cornerback Kristian Fulton (hamstring) is doubtful and linebacker Denzel Perryman (toe) is questionable. Bosa was limited in practice all week, while Mack didn't practice at all, so Bosa has the much better shot at being active this weekend in a juicy matchup against quarterback Will Levis (shoulder), who is returning after missing the last three games. Given their injuries, both Bosa and Mack are risky IDP fantasy options in Week 10. The 29-year-old Bosa played in the Week 9 win over the Browns but didn't record a single tackle. If one or both of Bosa and Mack are ruled inactive on Sunday afternoon, expect to see Bud Dupree take on a bigger pass-rushing role.
