The San Francisco 49ers signed safety Johnathan Cyprien to a one-year deal on Wednesday night, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Cyprien was drafted in the second round out of Florida International by the Jaguars in 2013. He spent four years in Jacksonville before bouncing around with the Titans, Falcons and Eagles in 2017 and 2019. Cyprien only played in five combined games with the Falcons and Eagles last season, recording only four combined tackles. The 30-year-old will provide some depth in the secondary behind injury-prone Jason Verrett.
The Atlanta Falcons acquired safety Jonathan Cyprien and a 2020 seventh-round pick from the Eagles on Monday in exchange for linebacker Duke Riley and a 2020 sixth-round pick, according to sources. The Falcons lost starting safety Keanu Neal to another season-ending injury a week ago and were torched by the Titans and quarterback Marcus Mariota in Week 4, so they want to improve their secondary somehow. Cyprien's presence should help, but Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller could have bounce-back performances in Week 5.
Tennessee Titans safety Johnathan Cyprien (knee) will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his knee this week in practice. Cyprien only played in 10 games last year with the Titans and had 57 tackles and one sack. Kendrick Lewis figures to jump in as the starting strong safety now.
