Jordan Reed Retires

Tight End Jordan Reed has retired from the NFL. The 30-year-old dealt with concussion issues over the course of his career, preventing him from consistently being a top tight end despite some obvious talent. Reed's best season was 2015, when he caught 87 passes for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had four touchdowns last season in San Francisco, where he served as George Kittle's backup. But his 26 receptions were a career-low, as was his 56.5 catch rate.

Jordan Reed Goes Without A Catch In Week 16

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed wasn't able to reel in either of his two targets in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals. The team welcomed their No. 1 tight end George Kittle back after an eight-week absence this week and he went on to lead the team in targets (5) and receiving yards (92). Reed had seen at least four targets in five straight games before this week, but he's now the clear No. 2 tight end on the team behind Kittle.

Jordan Reed Not A Strong Starting Option In Week 16

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed managed to score his fourth touchdown of the year in Week 15. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to do much else, catching just two of his five targets for 18 yards. Reed has been a touchdown-or-bust fantasy option over the past month or so and even when he scores, his yardage is so low that the reward he offers for a good game is minimal. This week, the 49ers could have George Kittle (foot) back for the first time since Week 8. If Kittle suits up, Reed shouldn't be started in any leagues as he'd be the team's clear No. 2 tight end. If Kittle continues to be out, Reed is a potential starter in deep leagues if you're stuck, but just know that he's risky and his upside is minimal.

Jordan Reed Catches Touchdown In Week 15

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed caught two of his five targets for 18 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys. Reed has now failed to top 20 receiving yards in three of his past four games. On the bright side, he's scored touchdowns in two of his past three now. He's a risky touchdown-or-bust low-end starting TE option, but even when he scores, his yardage is so low that it's tough to argue he's worth the risk.

Jordan Reed Can't Be Trusted In Week 15

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed has been unable to deliver solid fantasy production despite being the team's No. 1 tight end over the past month or so. In Week 14 against the New York Giants, he caught just two passes for 13 yards, despite quarterback Nick Mullens throwing a whopping 45 passes in the game. This week, Reed and the 49ers face the Dallas Cowboys, who have been solid against the pass, allowing just 215.2 passing yards per game. The 49ers' star tight end George Kittle (foot) has been designated to return from Injured Reserve. He's unlikely to make his return this week, but there's a chance he'll be back in Week 16. Reed can be left on waivers in all leagues and isn't a viable starting option in Week 15.

Jordan Reed Manages Just Two Catches In Week 14

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed had a quiet outing in Week 14 against the Washington Football Team. Facing his former team, Reed caught just two of his five targets for 13 yards. 49ers quarterback Nick Mullensthrew the ball 45 times in this week's game and the 49ers were without their No. 2 receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) for almost the entirety of the game after an early injury. The fact that Reed couldn't succeed under these conditions is certainly concerning. He's going to be tough to trust in any fantasy leagues going forward until he shows he's able to produce again.

Jordan Reed Has PPR Intrigue Against Former Team

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed will play his first game against his former team, Washington, in Week 14. While he may have revenge on his mind, it's going to be a tough matchup for Reed, facing a Washington defense that is allowing just 203.8 passing yards per game this year, the third fewest in the league. Reed has seen 14 targets over his past three games, but hasn't done a ton with them. He has just one touchdown over that stretch and he is averaging just 9.1 yards per reception on the year. In PPR leagues, he's a low-end starting option, but his upside is limited. You will likely need a touchdown from him in order to be content with his output.

Jordan Reed Catches Touchdown In Week 13

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed caught three of his four targets for 32 yards and a touchdown in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills. It was his third touchdown of the year and first since Week 2, when both of his other touchdown catches were made. While Reed led all 49ers tight ends in targets, fellow 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley also made his mark on the stat sheet, catching both of his targets for 29 yards. Reed has been exclusively used in short-yardage situations this year as he's averaging just 9.1 yards per reception. That certainly caps his upside, but he's a low-end TE1 option in PPR leagues regardless.

Jordan Reed Is A Risky PPR Option In Week 13

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed has seen exactly six targets in each of his past two games. He caught five of his six targets for 62 yards in Week 10, but only managed two catches for 18 yards in Week 12. This week, the 49ers have a favorable matchup against the Buffalo Bills, who are allowing 373.1 yards from scrimmage per game on the year. Reed should see around six targets once again, which gives him a chance to deliver a decent PPR game, but his upside is limited. He shouldn't be started in any non-PPR leagues.

Jordan Reed Has Just Two Catches In Week 12

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed had a disappointing showing in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Rams. He was second on the team in targets with six, trailing only Deebo Samuel, who had 13. However, Reed was only able to catch two passes for 18 yards in the game. The Rams boast one of the league's top pass defenses and Samuel, who had 11 catches for 133 yards, was the only 49ers pass-catcher to find any success. Reed should remain a low-end TE1 option going forward. Next week, he'll have a more favorable matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
