Logan Paulsen, Luke Stocker Provide Tight End Depth
The Atlanta Falcons brought in free-agent tight ends Logan Paulsen and Luke Stocker during the offseason to provide depth behind Austin Hooper, who is in a contract year. Stocker, who signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal in the offseason, received a $1.5 million signing bonus. He might also see some time at fullback in addition to tight end, but neither is expected to move the needle in terms of fantasy appeal unless disaster strikes Hooper. TE Jaeden Graham has also seen some time at fullback during offseason practices.
The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms on an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent tight end Logan Paulsen on Saturday. Paulsen returns to Atlanta, where he had only nine catches for 91 yards and one touchdown in 15 games in his first season with the Falcons last year. He should not be on anyone's fantasy radar as mostly a blocking tight end behind pass-catcher Austin Hooper and Luke Stocker.
Atlanta Falcons tight end Logan Paulsen caught his first touchdown of the 2018 season on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Paulsen has now registered a reception in each of the last three games. However, they have been his only three targets and his role in the offense is extremely small. Therefore, Paulsen is not someone you should look to add but if for any reason his role in the offense begins to increase, or he starts seeing more looks around the red zone, then he may become someone of interest on waiver wires.
Atlanta Falcons tight end Logan Paulsen had one reception for seven yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday. Paulsen has been competing with Eric Saubert for the second tight end spot in preseason. While Saubert had a longer reception (44-yards), Paulsen's reception was from a Matt Ryan pass. That is a good indication that Paulsen is the first choice as the second tight end in the first-team offense. It may be that Paulsen needs to impress in the fourth preseason game to cement the spot but for now it should be assumed he is the second tight end in this offense. However, even as the second tight end he does not have much fantasy value given the depth of receiving options in this offense.
Logan Paulsen Does Not Register A Reception Friday
Atlanta Falcons tight end Logan Paulsen did not register a reception in the game Friday. Paulsen entered the game second on the depth chart, but he is a in a battle with Eric Saubert for that spot. While it may be concerning that Paulsen did not register any receptions or targets, his role in this offense is likely to be more about his value as a blocker. If he can demonstrate that he is a solid blocker in both the run and pass game he will likely still see the field before Saubert once the season begins.
Logan Paulsen Providing Insight To Younger Tight Ends
Atlanta Falcons tight end Logan Paulsen is providing insight to younger tight ends, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Paulsen is currently battling with Eric Saubert for the second tight end spot on the roster. Paulsen has struggled the last three years with just 16 reception on 28 targets. Paulsen's career has stuttered since he had 53 receptions in a two year period for the Redskins between 2012 and 2013. Even if Paulsen was to win the second tight end job it is unlikely he will have much fantasy value. As the second tight end last season, Levine Toilolo had just 12 receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. Right now Paulsen is only an option as a handcuff to Austin Hooper in extremely deep leagues.
Atlanta Falcons tight end Logan Paulsen is listed second on the depth chart behind Austin Hooper. Paulsen was signed this offseason having spent 2017 with the San Francisco 49ers. Paulsen's career has faded since he was with the Washington Redskins. The good news for Paulsen is that the Falcons ran two tight end sets 24% of the time last season. Paulsen should have chance to be a valuable part of this offense, but it is unlikely that he will play a big enough part in the offense to have fantasy relevance. However, if an injury was to happen to Austin Hooper, then Paulsen would be in position to be fantasy relevant as part of this offense.
