New York Jets running back Matt Forte announced his retirement from football on Wednesday. In his two seasons with New York, Forte looked his age and battled through various nagging injuries that left him far less than 100 percent. But in his eight seasons with the Bears, Forte became one of the most versatile three-down backs in the NFL, racking up over 1,000 yards on the ground five different seasons. With him gone in New York, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire figure to split the backfield duties in 2018, although Gang Green could also address the position in the draft.
New York Jets running back Matt Forte plans to continue playing next season. Forte has been set back with knee injuries the last two years. He remained effective in the pass game when on the field in 2017, but the Jets are not expected to keep him at his $4 million cap number. Forte should draw committee interest if he is released this offseason.
New York Jets running back Matt Forte is likely out of New York, as ESPN's Rich Cimini reports Forte's "days are numbered" with the Jets. Hampered by a knee injury which did not allow him to practice and eventually landed him on Injured Reserve ahead of Week 17, Forte rushed for just 381 yards and two scores on 103 carries. He did continue to add value in the passing game, but the Jets need to get younger at running back. Cutting Forte will save New York $3 million against the salary cap.
The New York Jets placed running back Matt Forte (knee) on Injured Reserve on Saturday. The veteran running back will sit out the final game of the season, and he's unlikely to be back with a Jets team in 2018 that is trying to get younger and more productive. Forte will finish the year with a career-low 103 attempts for 381 yards (3.7 yards per carry) and career-low two touchdowns on the ground. Injuries and declining performance the past two years show that Forte is pretty near the end. Bilal Powell will receive a significant boost in touches and fantasy value in the finale against the Patriots, where he'll now be more of a low-end RB2. Rookie Elijah McGuire will see more work, too.
New York Jets running back Matt Forte (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Patriots. Forte didn't practice at all this week, but he should still be active for the regular season finale. That doesn't mean he'll have much of a role in the three-headed backfield, and he's still more of a weak RB3/flex play with limited upside. Bilal Powell was by far the best back in Week 16 and continues to have the most upside between Forte and rookie Elijah McGuire.
New York Jets running back Matt Forte expects to play another season. Forte said he has been "playing on one leg" this year, but plans on returning for what would be his 11th season. The 32-year-old is fifth among active rushers with 9,796 career rushing yards. His contract with the Jets runs through 2018.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Matt Forte Out On Thursday
New York Jets tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (ribs) and running back Matt Forte (knee) did not practice Thursday. Seferian-Jenkins has now missed the first two practices of the week, making it unlikely he suits up for the season finale. He will not be a fantasy option even if he suits up. As for Forte, he is not nearly as appealing as backfield mate Bilal Powell leading into Week 17.
New York Jets running back Matt Forte was limited during the week with a knee injury, and as usual, he played anyway. If you rolled the dice on Forte against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, though, you received a big dud. Forte could muster only 19 yards on eight carries while turning his one target into a catch for seven yards. As usual, Forte was severely outplayed by Powell, but at least this time around, Powell received the carries as a result. Fantasy owners should stay away from Forte in Week 17 when he plays what will most likely be his final game as a Jet when Gang Green takes on the New England Patriots.
New York Jets running back Matt Forte (knee) is active for Week 16 against the Chargers. Forte often missed practice time during the week, making him questionable, but he will suit up again. Bilal Powell is the most attractive of New York's three-headed running back monster (including Elijah McGuire as well) and Forte is an RB3/flex option.
New York Jets running backs Matt Forte (knee) and Elijah McGuire (illness) are both questionable for Week 16 against the Chiefs. Forte often misses practice time during the week and is questionable but winds up playing, so we'd expect him to suit up. However, if one of the two is forced out, that'd be good news for Bilal Powell, who is the most attractive of New York's three-headed running back monster. Still, neither of this trio should be seen as anything above a weak RB3/flex option.
