Chad Henne, Matt McGloin Continue Battling for Backup QB
Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks Chad Henne and Matt McGloin are putting on an impressive battle for backup QB. It appears that Patrick Mahomes is going to be the starting quarterback in KC, but injuries happen and his lack of experience is showing on the field. Through two games Henne has completed 16-for-24 passes with two touchdowns and one interception. McGloin has completed 15-for-18 passes through two games without a touchdown or interception. Neither player has fantasy value with Mahomes starting. However, one if not both of them could end up seeing playing time in the regular season if Mahomes gets hurt or struggles heavily.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent quarterback Matt McGloin and wide receiver Nelson Spruce on Friday. McGloin was cut by the Texans early last year and never latched on with a team. He's played in just 13 games (all with the Raiders) since 2013, and he'll be the third quarterback behind Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne. Spruce hasn't recorded a single catch in the NFL and is not a lock to make the final roster.
Braxton Miller And Matt McGloin Among Texans Inactives
Texans wide receiver Braxton Miller is again a healthy scratch for the Texans, which could signify that the team plans to lean on the run against the Colts. New backup quarterback Matt McGloin is also inactive--this means T.J. Yates will be the team's second option behind starter Tom Savage.
The Philadelphia Eagles will go with quarterback Nick Foles as the backup to starter Carson Wentz. Third stringer Matt McGloin is not expected to make the final roster. Foles has been hurt all summer, dealing with a shoulder injury that has kept him from playing in any preseason games. With the Eagles drafting and signing several wide receivers this offseason, it would have been beneficial to have their number two signal caller play some snaps with the new guys, but even though Foles was on the bench all summer, the Eagles will take him over McGloin. To be fair, Foles didn't play at all, but McGloin played poorly, and the mystery is preferable to the certainty.
