Former Baltimore Ravens center Matt Skura signed an undisclosed one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, according to his agent, David Canter. The 28-year-old Skura will be penciled in as the team's starting center after Ted Karras rejoined the New England Patriots in free agency. Skura started 39 games at center in Baltimore in the last three years, but he was benched in the middle of last season after he struggled with pistol snaps in back-to-back games. He was considered one of the top centers in the league in 2019 before he suffered a serious left knee injury. Skura's acquisition doesn't rule out Miami from finding a long-term solution at the position in this year's draft, and the team has four top-50 picks. The Ravens are expected to either stick with Patrick Mekari at center or move Bradley Bozeman from left guard or draft a replacement in the early rounds.
Baltimore Ravens center Matt Skura (knee) has passed his physical and is expected to be on the field for the team's practice on Monday. Skura tore his ACL, PCL, and MCL back on November 25, while also dislocating his kneecap. The veteran told reporters at the end of the 2019 season that his goal was to make it back for the beginning of training camp in what was an aggressive timeframe considering the severity of his injury. Skura met that goal and should have little trouble reclaiming his spot as the team's starting center ahead of Week 1. His return to the team's offensive line is a positive development for Lamar Jackson and the team's running backs this season.
According to head coach John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens center Matt Skura (knee) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a major knee injury suffered back on Nov. 25. Skura tore his ACL, MCL and PCL and dislocated his kneecap in Los Angeles. Skura's absence in the middle of Baltimore's offensive line was an issue for the Ravens and their run-first offensive attack. While his status for the beginning of the season is unknown, Skura's return to full health would be a big positive for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. He is still a candidate to open the season on the reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list if his knee isn't ready by the start of the season. More information should come to light when Baltimore opens camp at the end of July.
