The Green Bay Packers waived tight end Michael Roberts (shoulder) with a failed physical on Wednesday less than a week after he was cut by the Lions following a voided trade to the Patriots. The 25-year-old landed on Injured Reserve last year with the shoulder injury and has appeared in 23 games for the Lions with 13 catches for 146 yards and three touchdowns after being a fourth-round pick in 2017. He can go on being ignored in fantasy leagues even if he latches on for good with another squad.
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts reverted back to the Lions on Friday after the Patriots tried to acquire him in a trade. Roberts failed his physical and has now been waived by the Lions. The 25-year-old was a fourth-round pick in 2017 and had just nine catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns in eight games due to injuries in 2018 with Detroit. It remains to be seen if he'll resurface with another team, but even if he does he won't be on the fantasy radar.
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts must prove he belongs on the roster this offseason after the team added veterans at the position in free agency and drafted rookies as well. Jesse James and Logan Thomas were added in free agency and T.J. Hockenson (first round) and Isaac Nauta were taken in the draft. Roberts, a fourth-rounder in 2017, has largely been a non-factor in the NFL so far. He caught nine passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns in eight games in 2018 and ended the year injured. Hockenson and James are the clear-cut starters at tight end, but Detroit could use a lot of three-tight end sets, which could include Roberts. Roberts is the best red-zone weapon of the group, but he should be off fantasy radars unless an injury hits either Hockenson or James.
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts put up a goose egg in Week 14 against the Cardinals. This week against the Bills, Roberts will have his hands full as Buffalo has allowed just 41 receptions and four touchdowns to tight ends this season. The only way Roberts could find any relevance is if he scores a touchdown, but with the inconsistency of this Lions offense, you would be hard pressed to think Roberts is an option this week.
The Detroit Lions placed tight end Michael Roberts (shoulder) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, officially ending his season. Tight end Jerome Cunningham was signed off the practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move. Roberts had a stretch of three touchdowns in two games earlier this year as a red-zone weapon for quarterback Matthew Stafford, but it didn't last. He finishes the year with only nine catches on 20 targets for 100 yards and three scores. Luke Willson will continue to serve as the pass-catching tight end, but he's a low-end TE2 for fantasy, even with Detroit's offense running dangerously thin on playmakers.
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts did not register a catch in Sunday's win over the Cardinals despite being targeted twice. It was a bad day all around for the Lions passing attack as Matthew Stafford did not throw a touchdown but that also spells bad news for fantasy owners. The Lions tight end position has been relatively useless all year and it doesn't look to be getting better as the season winds down. Detroit travels to play the Bills next week.
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts (shoulder) has been a full participant in practice this week after missing last weeks game against the Rams. The second-year man has been eating up red zone targets; in his seven games played, he has seven targets inside the 20-yard line. Its led to three touchdowns this season; however, he hasnt scored since Week 7. If Roberts is a full go against the Cardinals on Sunday, he has a chance to find pay dirt but his fantasy output will solely rely on scoring. There are a lot of volatile tight end options in fantasy, and Roberts is one of them.
Detroit Lions rookie running back Kerryon Johnson (knee) is out for Week 13 against the Rams, while tight end Michael Roberts (shoulder) is listed as doubtful despite being limited in practice all week. Receiver Brandon Powell (calf) has also been ruled out. The Lions are running out of offensive weapons with Marvin Jones also out for the season. With Johnson out for the second straight game, LeGarrette Blount should dominate the work on early downs and will be an RB3/flex option in standard-scoring leagues. Theo Riddick should be used often in the passing game and has RB3/flex appeal in PPR leagues. In three-receiver sets it should be Kenny Golladay, TJ Jones and Bruce Ellington. With Roberts unlikely to play, expect Luke Willson to be the main pass-catching tight end, although he is well off the fantasy radar.
Michael Roberts Hopes To Find The End Zone In Week 13
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts returned in Week 12 from a one-game absence to catch three passes for just 16 yards. However, the former fourth-round pick was targeted two times inside the red zone, his seventh inside the 20-yard line this season. That's impressive, considering he's missed four games this season and the Lions at one point housed three major receiving weapons. This week against the Rams, Roberts will rely on scoring to be a fantasy option and with there not being anymore bye weeks, it's hard to consider a player like him, but you could do worse as a DFS punt option.
Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts returned from a one-game absence to catch three of six targets for just 16 yards in the loss to the Bears on Thursday. Roberts was the fourth most targeted Lion and has now seen at least three targets in each of the last four games he's played. Overall, the Lions passing game was ineffective on Thursday as they didn't have one passing touchdown. Roberts is a boom-or-bust option and is the only Lions tight end to have a red zone target this season. He'll look to get back into the end zone in Week 13 against the Rams.
