Eagles Sign Kerryon Johnson To Practice Squad

The Philadelphia Eagles signed running back Kerryon Johnson and offensive lineman Luke Juriga to their practice squad on Tuesday and released kicker Matt McCrane from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Johnson saw nine special teams snaps with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3, but otherwise has been making the rounds as a free agent trying out for running back-needy teams. Miles Sanders broke his hand in the Week 16 win over the New York Giants and was already ruled out for Week 17 against the Washington Football Team, so the Eagles are in need of some depth at the position in case Sanders cannot return to close out the regular season. The Eagles will lean on a backfield committee of Jordan Howard (neck), Boston Scott and rookie Kenneth Gainwell for the foreseeable future.

Kerryon Johnson Works Out For Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars worked out running back Kerryon Johnson on Wednesday. Veteran back Carlos Hyde (concussion) sat out of Wednesday's practice. That means, Dare Ogunbowale is the backup right now for Week 15. On paper, it makes sense for the Jaguars to attempt to find more depth behind James Robinson. However, Johnson hasn't played all season and it's uncertain what he'd bring to the table. He had some success with the Detroit Lions, but hasn't played in 2021. It's unlikely Johnson would be worth rostering in any formats, assuming he does get signed by the team.

Vikings Work Out Kerryon Johnson Tuesday

The Minnesota Vikings had free-agent running back Kerryon Johnson in for a workout on Tuesday. Starting running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) suffered a dislocated left shoulder and a torn labrum in the Week 12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and is expected to miss at least the next two games, leaving the Vikings looking for more RB depth behind Alexander Mattison and rookie Kene Nwangwu. With Cook sidelined for the next couple of weeks, expect Mattison to see most of the backfield work with Nwangwu serving as the change-of-pace back. With great matchups upcoming against the winless Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers, Mattison needs to be picked up in all leagues (if he's available). He'll have RB1 upside in Week 13 against the Lions.

Packers Work Out Kerryon Johnson

The Green Bay Packers worked out former Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson on Tuesday. The Packers are in need of some running back depth with Aaron Jones (knee) expected to miss one to two weeks after suffering an MCL sprain in the Week 10 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Johnson was active for one game with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 but played just nine special teams snaps before being cut in early October. If he is signed by Green Bay, he's unlikely to have much of a role besides strictly serving as emergency depth at the position until Jones returns. AJ Dillon will take over lead-back duties for however long Jones is out, and he's a must-add off waivers this week if he's available. Patrick Taylor Jr. is the only other RB on the current active roster.

Washington Works Out Kerryon Johnson, D'Onta Foreman

The Washington Football Team worked out free-agent running backs Kerryon Johnson and D'Onta Foreman on Tuesday. It remains to be seen if Washington will sign one of them, but this could mean that primary running back Antonio Gibson's (shin) injury is more serious than we think. Gibson has been playing through a hairline fracture in his shin for weeks now, but his production has dropped considerably in the last three weeks, gaining 3.52 yards per carry on his 44 rushing attempts in that span. Backup J.D. McKissic played 63.9% of the offensive snaps last week, too, compared to just 41.7% for Gibson. Keep an eye on Gibson's practice status this week, but if this trend continues, Gibson may need to miss some time to get back to full health. McKissic is becoming more interesting.

49ers Cut Kerryon Johnson, Chris Thompson

The San Francisco 49ers cut running backs Kerryon Johnson and Chris Thompson and linebacker Curtis Bolton on Tuesday to make room on the practice squad for tight end Jordan Matthews and two other potential additions. Johnson was waived by the Detroit Lions in the offseason and joined the 49ers last month, but he never saw a single touch in the lone game he was active in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers. It's not a good sign that Johnson didn't factor into a 49ers backfield that was missing Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., JaMycal Hasty and Elijah Mitchell. The 24-year-old might latch onto another practice squad, but he's obviously well off the fantasy radar in 2021.

Kerryon Johnson Promoted To Active Roster

San Francisco 49ers running back Kerryon Johnson has been promoted to the active roster. Johnson had been a member of the practice squad for the last few weeks. However, with the injuries to Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) and JaMycal Hasty (ankle), the veteran may provide relief for Trey Sermon (concussion), who is anticipated to handle most of the work against the Packers on Sunday night. Still, Johnson and Jacques Patrick could get a few touches in Week 3, classifying them as borderline adds in deep fantasy formats.

Kerryon Johnson Could Have A Role In Week 3

San Francisco 49ers running back Kerryon Johnson could get some action during the upcoming Sunday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers. The veteran, who was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles back in August, was recently signed to the practice squad. With Trey Sermon (concussion), Elijah Mitchell (shoulder), and JaMycal Hasty (ankle) all in danger of sitting out in Week 3, Johnson could be of value for those looking for a short-term problem in deeper formats. Fantasy managers need to monitor this situation, although using a waiver claim on him isn't recommended.

49ers Sign Kerryon Johnson To Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers have signed running back Kerryon Johnson to the team's practice squad, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move came shortly after Raheem Mostert (knee) announced that he would be having season-ending knee surgery, leaving the team with Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon at running back. Johnson spent the first three years of his career with the Detroit Lions before the team waived him this past offseason. He was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles, but wasn't able to make the team. The Eagles cut him due to an injury designation. Johnson has been plagued by injuries throughout his NFL career. He's a long-shot to work his way into fantasy relevance this year and should remain on waivers in all leagues for now.

Kerryon Johnson Works Out With Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders hosted free-agent running back Kerryon Johnson for a visit on Tuesday. A former second-round pick, Johnson impressed as a rookie with the Lions in 2018 but saw his career go downhill due to injury. Last season, he amassed 71 touches for 368 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns. The Madison Academy product signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason but was cut loose during training camp. While no deal is in place with Las Vegas, this is a step in the right direction. The Raiders current backfield consists of Josh Jacobs, Kenyan Drakeand Trey Ragas. The team also has Jalen Richard (leg) on Injured Reserve and Peyton Barber on the practice squad. Fantasy managers should continue to ignore Johnson for now.
