Broncos Defense Loses Mike Purcell For Rest Of Season
Denver Broncos defensive tackle Mike Purcell (foot) will miss the remainder of the 2020 season due to a Lisfranc fracture, serving an additional blow to the depth of the Broncos Defense. Purcell, who had started all six games to begin the year, combined for 15 tackles, including two for a loss, while adding one quarterback hit and one sack prior to his season coming to an end. Denver has McTelvin Agim and Sylvester Williams at its disposal to fill-in at nose tackle, but neither has seen much playing time this season. Denver's defense continues to see its fantasy prospects fade as injuries mount, with difficult matchups versus the Falcons and Raiders on the horizon, as well.
The Denver Broncos agreed to a three-year contract extension with defensive tackle Mike Purcell on Tuesday that is worth a total of $14.8 million, including $6.8 million guaranteed, according to a source. It's a nice feel-good story for a player that was cut 10 times by six teams before he landed in Denver. Since he made five starts for the Broncos in 2019, their defense ranks sixth in the league with 3.9 yards per carry allowed. The 29-year-old has been crucial for a defensive line that has already lost star Von Miller and big offseason acquisition Jurrell Casey for the season. Purcell has 13 combined tackles (nine solo) and a sack through four games this season.
Denver Broncos defensive tackle Mike Purcell signed his second-round, $3.259 million restricted free-agent tender on Thursday, according to sources. Purcell won't stand out in IDP leagues for fantasy, but he was a very efficient interior presence for the Broncos in 2019. The soon-to-be 29-year-old had 48 tackles (28 solo), eight tackles for loss and two QB hits in 13 games (seven starts) for Denver last season and will return to help clog up the middle in 2020. He'll be hoping to see more of the field consistently in his second year with the team.
