Detroit Lions quarterback Nate Sudfeld completed just 13 of 24 passes for 96 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception during Thursday's preseason opener against the New York Giants. He also rushed three times for an additional 14 yards on the ground. The 30-year-old played most of the game, only ceding reps to Hendon Hooker (head) in the third quarter. (Hooker departed after two drives and entered concussion protocol, bringing Sudfeld back into the game.) Neither player led a touchdown drive, and while Hooker was quite impressive on the ground, his new injury could give Sudfeld the early advantage in the fight to be Jared Goff's backup. If Hooker is expected to miss time, Detroit could add another quarterback to compete with Sudfeld ahead of the 2024 campaign.
The Detroit Lions have re-signed quarterback Nate Sudfeld on Wednesday. The 30-year-old served as the backup to Jared Goff during the 2022 season. He was slated to compete with Teddy Bridgewater, but he has retired this offseason. That being said, Sudfeld figures to compete with Hendon Hooker for the backup job in Detroit next season. The former sixth-round pick has played in six games since debuting in 2017. Sudfeld won't offer any fantasy value heading into next season.
Detroit Lions quarterback Nate Sudfeld (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the third quarter of the preseason finale on Friday night against the Carolina Panthers, according to sources. Sudfeld will now be forced to miss the entire 2023 season. It's a hit to Detroit's QB depth behind Jared Goff, especially with rookie Hendon Hooker (knee) taking a redshirt year in 2023. As things currently stand on Detroit's roster, Teddy Bridgewater will be Goff's primary backup, with only undrafted rookie Adrian Martinez behind him. The Lions will most likely add another body to the QB room before the start of the regular season in two weeks.
Detroit Lions quarterback Nate Sudfeld completed nine of his 18 passing attempts for 80 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 29-year-old threw the team's only touchdown of the game. Sudfeld might be on the team's roster to begin the season after the NFL implemented a rule to allow teams to carry a third quarterback and go over 53 roster spots, but he might be released when Hendon Hooker (torn ACL) is cleared to practice and play.
The Detroit Lions signed free-agent quarterback Nate Sudfeld to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday after they waived quarterback David Blough. Sudfeld became available when the San Francisco 49ers released him on Tuesday. With Blough out of the picture in Detroit, Sudfeld will serve as Jared Goff's backup heading into the 2022 regular season. The 28-year-old signal-caller was originally a sixth-round selection in 2016 by the Washington Commanders out of the University of Indiana. He's played in just four games (zero starts) in three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, going 25-for-37 for 188 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The San Francisco 49ers decided to release veteran quarterback Nate Sudfeld and retain rookie Brock Purdy on the team's 53-man roster. The 49ers are fully committed to Trey Lance as their starting signal-caller entering the 2022 regular season, and against all odds they've brought Jimmy Garoppolo back on a restructured one-year deal to back Lance up. Purdy will be the No. 3 with Sudfeld off the roster. Sudfeld, a former sixth-round pick in 2016 by the Washington Commanders, didn't get on the field at all for San Francisco last year. In his three NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Sudfeld went 25-for-37 for 188 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The San Francisco 49ers signed running back JaMycal Hasty and quarterback Nate Sudfeld on Thursday. San Fran also inked defensive lineman Kevin Givens, defensive lineman Maurice Hurst and offensive lineman Colton McKivitz to one-year deals. Sudfeld received a one-year, fully guaranteed $2 million deal with upside to get it to $3 million. Some people believe Sudfeld has the potential to be a starter in the NFL, but he'll likely be serving as Trey Lance's backup in 2022, assuming the Niners trade Jimmy Garoppolo. Hasty, 25, had 68 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries while adding 23 catches for 157 yards in 11 games last season. Even if the 49ers don't re-sign Raheem Mostert this offseason, Hasty will be competing for backup carries behind Elijah Mitchell in 2022.
The San Francisco 49ers signed former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday. Sudfeld, who was taken in the sixth round by the Washington Football Team in 2016 out of Indiana, has been a backup quarterback in his first three NFL seasons. The 27-year-old appeared in just one game for Philly in 2020, completing five of his 12 attempts for 32 yards and an interception. Sudfeld will function strictly as quarterback depth behind Jimmy Garoppolo in 2021 in his new home. The Niners recently trade up to third overall in this year's draft and are widely expected to select a rookie signal-caller with that selection. Sudfeld will continue to have no fantasy appeal with San Francisco.
Nate Sudfeld Plays And Completes Five Passes In Week 17
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld came into the game in Week 17 after rookie Jalen Hurts was benched. Sudfeld came in for most of the fourth quarter, completing five passes on 12 attempts for a total of 32 yards and one interception. For most of the season, Carson Wentz didn't look like the answer. For a little while, Jalen Hurts looked like the answer but changed that narrative quickly. At least it was easy and quick to see that Sudfeld certainly isn't the answer either. The Eagles have a ton of work to do throughout their roster this offseason, and figuring out their quarterback room will be a major part of it.
The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to terms to re-sign quarterback Nate Sudfeld to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday. Sudfeld missed all of the 2019 season after he injured his wrist in the preseason, but he'll be back in 2020 to serve as the immediate backup to Carson Wentz. The former sixth-round pick of the Redskins, Sudfeld has attempted only 25 passes in two NFL seasons, with 23 of those attempts coming back in 2017. He is a fantasy non-factor.
