Nate Sudfeld News
The San Francisco 49ers signed running back JaMycal Hasty and quarterback Nate Sudfeld on Thursday. San Fran also inked defensive lineman Kevin Givens, defensive lineman Maurice Hurst and offensive lineman Colton McKivitz to one-year deals. Sudfeld received a one-year, fully guaranteed $2 million deal with upside to get it to $3 million. Some people believe Sudfeld has the potential to be a starter in the NFL, but he'll likely be serving as Trey Lance's backup in 2022, assuming the Niners trade Jimmy Garoppolo. Hasty, 25, had 68 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries while adding 23 catches for 157 yards in 11 games last season. Even if the 49ers don't re-sign Raheem Mostert this offseason, Hasty will be competing for backup carries behind Elijah Mitchell in 2022.
The San Francisco 49ers signed former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday. Sudfeld, who was taken in the sixth round by the Washington Football Team in 2016 out of Indiana, has been a backup quarterback in his first three NFL seasons. The 27-year-old appeared in just one game for Philly in 2020, completing five of his 12 attempts for 32 yards and an interception. Sudfeld will function strictly as quarterback depth behind Jimmy Garoppolo in 2021 in his new home. The Niners recently trade up to third overall in this year's draft and are widely expected to select a rookie signal-caller with that selection. Sudfeld will continue to have no fantasy appeal with San Francisco.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld came into the game in Week 17 after rookie Jalen Hurts was benched. Sudfeld came in for most of the fourth quarter, completing five passes on 12 attempts for a total of 32 yards and one interception. For most of the season, Carson Wentz didn't look like the answer. For a little while, Jalen Hurts looked like the answer but changed that narrative quickly. At least it was easy and quick to see that Sudfeld certainly isn't the answer either. The Eagles have a ton of work to do throughout their roster this offseason, and figuring out their quarterback room will be a major part of it.
