The Houston Texans worked out free-agent wide receiver Preston Williams on Wednesday, according to a league source. Williams is a big athletic downfield target at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, and he previously spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers. The 26-year-old pass-catcher is generating interest from other teams as well. He didn't see a single target in Carolina last year while playing in just one game, but he combined for 56 catches on 111 targets for 787 yards and seven touchdowns the previous three years while with Miami. Williams was the Dolphins' leading receiver in 2019 before he tore the ACL in his knee that season. Wherever Williams lands for the 2023 season, he'll represent receiver depth.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Preston Williams has been released by the organization. The 26-year-old put together a fairly strong rookie campaign in 2019. Since then, Williams has struggled to make the same kind of impact in the league. He only played in one game with the Panthers last season. He has 56 receptions, 787 yards, and seven touchdowns in 25 games over the course of four seasons. Williams should be able to catch on elsewhere as a depth option.
The Carolina Panthers signed former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Preston Williams to their practice squad on Monday. Williams was waived by the Dolphins last week and went unclaimed. The 25-year-old was a starter in his rookie season in 2019 and finished with career-highs in receptions (32), targets (60) and receiving yards (428) while scoring three touchdowns in eight games (seven starts). But he's played in exactly eight games in each of his three NFL seasons and bottomed out in 2021 with just six catches on 16 targets for 71 yards and no touchdowns. In Carolina, he'll merely serve as receiver depth behind DJ Moore, Robbie Anderson, Terrance Marshall Jr., Laviska Shenault Jr., Rashard Higgins, Andre Roberts and Ish Smith.
The Miami Dolphins cut wide receiver Preston Williams on Tuesday, according to a source. Williams complained his lack of a role earlier this summer, but he was never realistically going to see much playing time after Miami added wideouts Tyreek Hill and Cedrick Wilson Jr. in the offseason. Multiple teams reached out over the last few weeks about a possible trade for Williams, but now they'll be able to pick him up for free on the open market. The 25-year-old caught 56 of 111 targets for 787 yards and seven touchdowns in his three seasons with the Dolphins, but he had trouble staying on the field, playing in only 24 games (17 starts) over a three-year span.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Preston Williams hauled in all three of his targets for 22 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday evening. He returned a punt at the end of the third quarter, then saw his three targets in the fourth quarter when Skylar Thompson quarterbacked the offense. Williams has yet to emerge as a true threat through three NFL seasons and is presumably on the roster bubble as the summer carries on.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Preston Williams has expressed frustration with his current role on the team. He recently went on social media to say that he just wants an opportunity. The 25-year-old signed a one-year deal with Miami over the offseason. The expectation was that Williams would have at least a part-time role on the team. However, Williams will now he buried on the depth chart with the Dolphins making major upgrades at wideout this offseason. They've brought in Tyreek Hill, Cedrick Wilson, and Erik Ezukanma with a fourth round pick. Also, the Dolphins have Trent Sherfield and Mohamed Sanu as depth. At this point, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Dolphins decide to trade Williams. He's not expected to have much fantasy value until he can get out of Miami.
The Miami Dolphins are re-signing wide receiver Preston Williams to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday, according to a source. Williams has played in exactly eight games in each of his first three NFL seasons. The 24-year-old torn his ACL midway through his rookie season and has been plagued by injuries and drops ever since. The 2021 season was his worst, as he finished with only six catches for 71 yards on 16 targets over three starts for Miami. Williams will have to prove he can stay healthy in a depth role for the Dolphins behind Jaylen Waddle, DeVante Parker and the newly signed Cedrick Wilson in 2022. He should start the season on the waiver wire in all leagues.
The Miami Dolphins are unlikely to tender impending restricted free-agent wide receiver Preston Williams, which would make him an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Williams' playing time dropped in 2021, even though DeVante Parker missed time with a hamstring injury. He had just six catches for 71 yards and no touchdowns on 16 targets in eight games (three starts) and played just 175 offensive snaps. It was a big disappointment after Williams had seven combined touchdowns in his first two seasons for Miami. The 24-year-old has struggled with drops and injuries in his first three NFL seasons, and he may have to prove himself to a difference organization in 2022 and beyond.
The Miami Dolphins put wide receiver Preston Williams, defensive lineman Adam Butler, defensive tackle John Jenkins and safety Brandon Jones on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. Rookie wideout Jaylen Waddle has been a target hot in Miami's offense this year, but Williams hasn't been able to take advantage of injuries to Will Fuller and DeVante Parker throughout the year, as he's recorded only six catches for 71 yards on 16 targets in eight games played. Williams hasn't seen a target or caught a pass since Week 12 and has played just 17 offensive snaps in his last two games. Jones has 66 tackles (40 solo), six tackles for loss, nine QB hits, one interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and five sacks in 13 games in his second season in the NFL.
Preston Williams - Week 10 Outlook for Fantasy Football
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Preston Williams will be active for the Week 10 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. He has been a healthy scratch in each of the last two games. However, the Dolphins are in need of wideouts with DeVante Parker (hamstring) and Will Fuller (finger) sidelined. That being said, Williams is not expected to have a big role despite playing on Thursday. The assumption is that he'll be behind Mack Hollins, so fantasy managers shouldn't bother taking the risk. There might be a few targets for Williams, but not enough to warrant starting him in any formats. Williams has a total of five receptions on the year, so he hasn't given anyone a reason to trust him.
