The San Francisco 49ers released defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche on Tuesday. Nkemdiche was only with the team for three weeks before being shown the door at training camp. The 27-year-old will try to latch on with another organization before the start of the regular season. Nkemdiche was originally a first-round selection by the Arizona Cardinals in 2016 out of the University of Mississippi. He played in nine games for the Seattle Seahawks last year, recording 15 tackles (seven solo) and a pass defensed. In his five-year NFL career, Nkemdiche has racked up 59 tackles (33 solo), 10 tackles for loss, 11 QB hits, 4.5 sacks, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in 38 games (six starts).
The Seattle Seahawks signed free-agent defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche to an undisclosed deal on Thursday to bolster their defensive line. The 26-year-old former first-round pick out of Mississippi in 2016 played sparingly in his first two NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He had a small breakout in 2018 before his season ended early due to a knee injury, recording 4.5 sacks, 36 tackles (12 for loss) and eight QB hits in 10 games (six starts). Nkemdiche played in only two games for the Miami Dolphins in 2019 before being waived with a failed-physical designation. He did not play at all in 2020. In his four NFL seasons, Nkemdiche has 44 tackles (26 solo), 10 QB hits, two passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and 4.5 sacks in 29 games (six starts).
The Arizona Cardinals released defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche on Sunday, after the first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft showed up to training camp out of shape. He started camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list due to a knee ailment, and he also had a pair of offseason arrests which might have angered the Cardinals, too. Nkemdiche had been due a $400K bonus for being on the roster on the fifth day of training camp. The team will roll with a rebuilt defensive line of third-round pick Zach Allen, Rodney Gunter, Terrell McClain, Corey Peters and Darius Philon. The Cards are not a recommended fantasy DST in most formats heading into 2019.
The Arizona Cardinals placed defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche (knee) on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Sunday. The team also placed linebacker Dante Booker (knee), OL Max Garcia (knee), LB Brooks Reed (hip) and CB Brandon Williams (back) on the PUP. In addition to those moves, they released OL William Holden and DL Immanuel Turner, while signing DL Sterling Bailey. PUP players are eligible to return any point during training camp, but cannot take part in on-field work until they're taking off the list. Nkemdiche and Garcia are each making their way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered during the 2018 season.
Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche (knee) was arrested for speeding and driving with a suspended license on June 6, according to a police report, and again on June 12 for traffic-related offenses. The first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has been a disappointment, and he is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 14, so he is expected to miss the start of the 2019 season. The team declined the fifth-year option on his rookie contract back in May, so he'll be an unrestricted free agent after the 2019 season. Perhaps a potential payday next offseason will spur him on to his best season yet. He isn't off to a very good start in that pursuit, however.
