Rod Smith News
The New York Giants signed free-agent running back Rod Smith to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. He spent most of the last four seasons with the Cowboys and will compete for a backup role behind Saquon Barkley with Wayne Gallman, Paul Perkins, Elijah Penny, Robert Martin and Jon Hilliman. Smith was mostly a backup to Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas and is unlikely to have any fantasy relevance with his new team in the same division. He has 101 career rushing attempts for 364 yards (3.6 average) and five touchdowns.
Dallas Cowboys running back Rod Smith will officially start in the backfield in Week 17 against the Giants with the team resting Ezekiel Elliott in a game that means nothing. It will be Smith's second career start, but Darius Jackson is also expected to see a healthy workload. Smith is a good value pick as a DFS sleeper against New York to close out the season despite having only 32 carries for 92 yards (2.9 yards per carry) this season as Zeke's backup.
Dallas Cowboys running back Rod Smith ran the ball 13 times for 49 yards in Saturday's preseason game. His longest rush was a 16 yard run. Smith is the backup to Ezekiel Elliott, and while he'll have a role this season, he won't make fantasy waves unless Elliott is forced to miss time. He's a solid handcuff for Elliott owners, but not much more.
