The Houston Texans are acquiring tight end Ryan Izzo from the New England Patriots on Thursday in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2022, according to a source. The Patriots are dealing from a position of strength now that they signed Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry in free agency this week. In addition to Smith and Henry, the Patriots have Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene and Matt LaCosse at the position. Izzo, 25, has just 19 receptions on 29 targets for 313 yards and one touchdown in 18 games (16 starts) in his two seasons in New England after he was a seventh-round pick out of Florida State in 2018. He'll join a tight end group in Houston that includes Darren Fells, Pharaoh Brown, Jordan Akins, Kahale Warring and Paul Quessenberry.
Ryan Izzo Lands On Injured Reserve With Neck Ailment
New England Patriots tight end Ryan Izzo (neck) was placed on Injured Reserve prior to Thursday's game against the Rams, and he will now miss at least the next three contests. Devin Asiasi (personal) was activated from the IR to take Izzo's place on the roster. Izzo has been utilized primarily as a blocking tight end this season, having combined to make 13 catches for 199 yards across 12 games, all of which he has started. The post-Rob Gronkowski tight end picture in New England has been less featured in the passing game, making Asiasi and fellow TEs Dalton Keene and Jordan Thomas unlikely to garner much fantasy intrigue over the coming weeks. Izzo will be eligible to return for the team's Week 17 matchup against the Jets, but he can remain on the waiver wire in all season-long formats until he gets the green light to return.
New England Patriots kicker Nick Folk (back) and tight end Ryan Izzo (hamstring) are both questionable for Week 10 on Sunday night against the Ravens. Both Folk and Izzo practiced on a limited basis all week, so we'd expect them both to suit up against Baltimore. Folk ranks just 24th in overall fantasy points at the kicking position through eight games, but the veteran booter hasn't missed a field-goal attempt since Week 2 and made all three of his field goals, including a 51-yard game-winner, and all three of his extra points in the Week 9 win over the Jets. The 36-year-old is trending upward and could be busy again Sunday night, making him a top-five kicking option. Izzo has just nine catches for 114 yards in eight games. The Pats don't utilize the tight end position enough to make Izzo fantasy relevant.
New England Patriots tight ends Ryan Izzo (concussion) and Matt LaCosse (knee) have both been ruled out for Week 8 against the Browns. Watson had three catches for 18 yards in his season debut against the Jets on Monday night and will remain the starter at the position with both Izzo and LaCosse out. The Browns have been generous to opposing tight ends this year, but Watson will remain a desperation TE2 for owners hurting at the position in deeper leagues.
New England Patriots tight end Ryan Izzo caught two passes for 31 yards in the Patriots victory over the Giants on Thursday. Izzo now is averaging 37 receiving yards a game over his last three games and has emerged as the preferred tight end option in the Patriots offense. The rookie lacks tangible fantasy value at this time but could rise to the fringes of top-12 tight end status over the next month if he can continue to progress.
New England Patriots tight end Ryan Izzo caught a touchdown in Week 5 and could be looking at an expanded role in the offense moving forward. The team just announced they have released veteran tight end Benjamin Watson and Izzo has 80 receiving yards combined with one touchdown over his last two games. The rookie will face a Giants Defense on Thursday that has allowed 16th fewest fantasy points to the tight end position this season. It may not be an ideal matchup but Izzo's targets could be on the rise. He is not fantasy viable at this time but his role could be expanded moving forward.
New England Patriots tight end Ryan Izzo caught two passes for 39 yards in the Patriots 33-7 bludgeoning of the Redskins in Week 5. It's minor, but Izzo's value is slowly on the rise after catching a 29-yard pass and then springing wide open for an easy touchdown catch. Izzo also notched a 41-yard catch last week as he slowly gets more opportunities in the offense. Fantasy owners shouldn't be racing to the waiver wire just yet to pick up Izzo but the rookie could be a player to watch in the coming weeks.
