Ryan Switzer Tries Out For Panthers

Free-agent wide receiver Ryan Switzer had a tryout with the team on Tuesday. The 27-year-old hasn't played an NFL snap in two seasons. Through three seasons, Switzer has 67 receptions, 537 receiving yards, and one touchdown in 41 games. The speedy wideout isn't viewed as anything more than a depth player. Although, the Panthers don't exactly have a stacked group of wide receivers. Despite that, it's unlikely that Switzer does enough to warrant rostering in any fantasy formats, assuming he makes the team.

Ryan Switzer Placed On Injured Reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed wide receiver Ryan Switzer (back) and fullback Roosevelt Nix (knee) on Injured Reserve on Thursday. Switzer injured his back in the Week 10 win over the Rams. In corresponding moves, receiver Tevin Jones and linebacker Jayrone Elliott were added to the active roster. Switzer was more of a special teams guy and had only eight receptions on 11 targets for 27 yards in three games for the Steelers this year. He wasn't even on the fantasy map to begin with.

Ryan Switzer A Non-Option In Week 4

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer has fallen out of the gameplan since Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) went down. He had just 13 snaps in Week 2 before not being on the field for one offensive snap in last Sunday's loss. A preferred slot option for Roethlisberger, new quarterback Mason Rudolph prefers to look elsewhere, as evidenced by the sole target that Switzer has seen since the change. With his current role, he shouldn't even enter your mind as a fantasy option.

Ryan Switzer Unheard From In Week 2

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer caught one of his four targets but didn't gain a yard in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Switzer bobbled a punt early in the game and the team seemed to remove him from their game plan after that. It doesn't much matter because there are so many other mouths to feed in this offense that even when the 24-year-old gets work, it's nothing worth noting. It's important to consider the fact that Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) may miss time and Switzer had received praise from the signal caller. Don't consider the slot receiver for any fantasy matchups in Week 3 against the 49ers.

Ryan Switzer Not An Option In Week 2

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer doesn't hold any fantasy weight heading into a Week 2 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. After catching all six targets for just 29 yards in the opener against New England, it had many questioning why the special teams ace was so involved in the offense. Earlier this season, Ben Roethlisberger praised Switzer for his play-style but with so many other options ahead of him, it's hard to envision the 24-year-old being fantasy relevant in Week 2.

Ryan Switzer Catches All Six Targets

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer caught all six of his targets for a paltry 29 yards in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots. Earlier in the week, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger praised Switzer for his play-style, and in turn the signal caller looked his way often. However, not much happened once the ball was in Switzer's hands. The 24-year-old is on the roster for his special team abilities, so it will be interesting to see if he continues to get looks in the passing game. This performance shouldn't move the fantasy needle for Switzer at all, and he can be left comfortably on waivers in all formats as the team heads into a Week 2 home matchup with Seattle.

Ryan Switzer Draws Praise From Ben Roethlisberger

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer will begin his second season with the team on Sunday night when they take on the New England Patriots. Switzer didn't receive much work with the offense in the preseason, but he did get his reps in on special teams. However, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had some high praise for the third-year slot receiver. "He's strong, he's not shy, and he plays big," said the veteran signal caller. Then offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner swooped in and said Switzer has a defined role on the team, but it's mainly special teams. The UNC product will certainly see his time with the offense, but it's hard to ever picture a time when the 26-year-old is fantasy relevant, even in full-point PPR formats.

Ryan Switzer Catches Both Targets In Final Preseason Game

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer caught both of his targets for 10 yards in Thursday's preseason game against Carolina. Switzer has been working all training camp to earn a slot role in the Steelers' offense, but he has just three receptions for 15 yards. While his spot on the team is most likely safe due to his role in the return game, Switzer has next to no fantasy value, especially if the team holds onto Eli Rogers as well.

Ryan Switzer Sees Mostly Special Teams Work On Sunday

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer was targeted once on offense but also returned three kicks and one punt in Sunday's preseason game with Tennessee. While Switzer didn't haul in his passing look, he looked solid in the return game. This wasn't encouraging for Switzer's outlook in the offense, especially since he only has one reception this preseason. Don't even consider him in the deepest of fantasy leagues. Even in PPR formats, it would be hard to justify a spot for Switzer as there are just too many other mouths to feed in Pittsburgh.

Ryan Switzer Targeted Once On Saturday

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer caught his only target for five yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Chiefs. Switzer didn't see any action in the first preseason game but his limited role on Saturday causes some questions about his role on the team. The 24-year-old made his money in the return game last season but with the team's addition of Diontae Johnson and Diontae Spencer, Switzer is going to have to work extra hard to carve out a role on the offense. He's battling both previously mentioned as well as Eli Rogers for the slot position. Regardless, he holds no fantasy value and even if he's on the field he'll likely be the fourth and sometimes fifth best option for Ben Roethlisberger.
