Houston Texans wide receiver Sammie Coates (illness) is active on Monday night against the Titans. Coates has one catch on two targets for 12 yards in eight games this year, so he's completely off the fantasy radar. He will work behind DeAndre Hopkins, Demaryius Thomas and rookie Keke Coutee on Monday. Rookie Vyncint Smith is a healthy scratch for this one.
Houston Texans wide receivers Keke Coutee (hamstring) and Sammie Coates (hamstring) are both inactive for Week 3 against the Giants. Neither player has much of a role behind DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller and Bruce Ellington. Coutee, a rookie, has long-term upside and is worth stashing in dynasty leagues.
Sammie Coates, Keke Coutee Questionable Against Giants
Houston Texans wide receivers Sammie Coates (hamstring) and Keke Coutee (hamstring) are both questionable for Week 3 against the Giants. Coates lost most of his fantasy intrigue in the deepest of leagues when Will Fuller returned in Week 2. Neither Coates nor Coutee should be owned in most single-year fantasy leagues.
Houston Texans wide receivers Keke Coutee (hamstring) and Sammie Coates (hamstring) have been ruled out for Week 2 against the Titans. Coutee has now missed both games of the season. He's worth holding in dynasty leagues for his long-term upside, but he's unlikely to have much value in single-year leagues in 2018. Will Fuller (hamstring) is on track to make his season debut, and he should function as the No. 2 wideout behind DeAndre Hopkins.
Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Keke Coutee (hamstring) is inactive for Week 1 against the Patriots, while receiver Sammie Coates (hamstring) will play. Will Fuller is also out for the Texans, giving quarterback Deshaun Watson limited options in the passing game behind stud DeAndre Hopkins. Expect Hopkins to see a ton of targets in this one. Bruce Ellington should be the No. 2 option and could be a fantasy sleeper in deeper leagues. Coates should serve as the No. 3.
Houston Texans wide receivers Keke Coutee (hamstring) and Sammie Coates (hamstring) were both limited in practice on Friday and are questionable for Week 1 against the Patriots. Will Fuller is also questionable and could be a game-time decision. With three of their receivers ailing, expect Houston to rely a lot on stud wideout DeAndre Hopkins and running back Lamar Miller in this one. If Fuller doesn't play, Coutee and Coates could have bigger roles if they play, but Bruce Ellington would still be more attractive as a deep sleeper behind Hopkins.
Houston Texans wide receiver Sammie Coates continues to recover from a concussion suffered in Houston's preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Though it's not clear if he'll be able to return for the team's third preseason contest on Saturday against the Rams, it's an encouraging sign that Coates is, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson, making a "speedy recovery." Coates could make the team as the fifth receiver and serve as insurance in case the one of the team's outside receivers goes down with injury, but the once promising wide out doesn't have a place on fantasy rosters at this point.
Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has been impressed by wide receiver Sammie Coates so far in training camp and could see him playing a role for the team on special teams. If he makes the team, Coates will likely be just the fourth or fifth receiver in Houston's wide receiver rotation, but the former third-round pick has flashed potential in the league and could gain value if wide receiver one of the team's top receivers misses time. He's not worth stashing, but keep an eye on him over the course of the preseason.
The Houston Texans claimed wide receiver Sammie Coates off waivers from the Cleveland Browns on Friday, according to a source. Coates had only six receptions for 70 yards in 12 games for the Browns in his lone season, and he hasn't had more than 21 catches for 435 yards in his three NFL seasons. Coates is unlikely to carve out fantasy relevance next year while battling for playing time behind DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, Bruce Ellington and Braxton Miller.
The Cleveland Browns released wide receiver Sammie Coates on Thursday. Coates spent just one season in Cleveland, catching six passes for 70 yards in 12 games. Coates was a third-round draft selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers but has caught just 28 passes for 516 yards and two touchdowns in 32 career games over three seasons. Coates tweeted a goodbye to the city of Cleveland on Thursday, thanking the organization for the opportunity. Coates should catch on with another team but it could be in just a special teams role.
