Tashaun Gipson Sr. News
Safety Tashaun Gipson is returning to the 49ers, agreeing to a one-year, $2.9 million deal on Sunday. The 32-year-old played for the Browns, Jaguars, Texans, and Bears before landing in San Francisco for the 2022-23 campaign. He started all 17 games, ending the year with 61 total tackles and five interceptions. Nevertheless, although Gipson had some solid showings last season, he has a way to go before earning a routine spot on IDP rosters in 2023-24.
The San Francisco 49ers released veteran safety Tashaun Gipson on Tuesday, according to a source. Gipson signed a one-year deal with the Niners just a week ago, but he won't make it onto the initial 53-man roster. The 32-year-old operated as a starter for the Chicago Bears the last two years, putting up 81 solo tackles, one sack, four interceptions, 10 passes defensed and two fumble recoveries in 28 games started. He was a Pro Bowler back in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns, and Gipson has recorded a healthy 563 tackles (408 solo), 27 interceptions (three for touchdowns) and 57 passes defensed in his 10 NFL seasons with four different teams. There's a good chance he'll latch on elsewhere as secondary depth.
The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran free-agent safety Tashaun Gipson to an undisclosed deal on Monday, according to a source. Gipson will join the Niners after starting 12 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021, recording 47 tackles (33 solo), one sack, two interceptions, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery. The 32-year-old was a Pro Bowler back in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns, and he has 563 career tackles (408 solo), one sack, 14 tackles for loss, five QB hits, 27 interceptions (three for touchdowns), 57 passes defensed, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries in 140 games (132 starts) with the Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Bears. He'll provide secondary depth in San Francisco.
