Will Grier News
The New England Patriots re-signed quarterback Will Grier to their practice squad on Tuesday after they released him this past weekend. It was a bit odd that the Patriots waived Grier from the QB room with Mac Jones being benched yet again in the Week 12 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. The Patriots didn't even really announce a starter in the lead-up to the Week 12 contest coming out of their bye. After another multi-interception performance and benching after halftime, it would be a surprise if Jones made the starter over Bailey Zappe in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The 28-year-old Grier hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2019, but if things continue to get worse at the position for New England, we could see him in there before the end of the year.
The New England Patriots waived quarterback Will Grier on Saturday, according to a source. Grier never ended up playing for the Patriots this year after they signed him to their active roster off the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad in September, even with Mac Jones struggling mightily this year. The 28-year-old hasn't played in an NFL game since 2019 with the Carolina Panthers, when he went 28-for-52 for 228 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions in two starts. There's a possibility that he lands back in New England on the practice squad if he clears waivers. The Patriots have yet to announce who is starting at QB for Week 12 against the New York Giants, but all signs point to the team sticking with Jones for at least another week.
The New England Patriots announced on Friday that they have signed quarterback Will Grier to the 53-man active roster from the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad and moved defensive back Marcus Jones (shoulder) to Injured Reserve in a corresponding move. Grier will join the Patriots active roster to give the team more depth at the position behind starter Mac Jones and backup Bailey Zappe as they head into a Week 3 matchup against the division-rival New York Jets this Sunday. Grier will serve as the team's emergency third signal-caller for this week's game. Marcus Jones suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder in the Week 2 loss to the Miami Dolphins and will now have to miss at least the next four games.
