Former Carolina Panthers safety Xavier Woods has signed a new two-year, $10 million deal with the Tennessee Titans. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news. Woods spent the last three seasons in Carolina, leading the team in tackles with 119 in 2024. Perhaps most impressively, he started all 17 games and played 100% of Carolina's defensive snaps (1,218). The former sixth-round pick will now join his fourth team since being selected by Dallas in the 2017 NFL Draft and should provide a sure-tackling asset for the Titans while working in tandem with fellow safety Mike Brown, who is returning to the team on a one-year deal. Tennessee still has some work to do on the offensive side of the ball, but they've shored up a defense that allowed the third-fewest yards per game in the league a season ago (311.2).
The Carolina Panthers will be without safety Xavier Woods (hamstring) for an extended time following his injury in the team's 37-27 loss against the Seattle Seahawks. One source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that Woods will be out between four and six weeks with a hamstring issue. The 28-year-old safety suffered the injury early in the second quarter when he pushed Seahawks wideout D.K. Metcalf out of bounds on a 34-yard gain. Woods immediately came out and never returned. Sam Franklin Jr. replaced the veteran safety in Week 3. But it could be fifth-round rookie Jammie Robinson, who is listed ahead of Franklin on the Panthers depth chart, that fills Woods' void.
Former Dallas Cowboys safety Xavier Woods signed a three-year, $15.75 million deal with the Carolina Panthers on Monday, according to a source. The Dallas Cowboys drafted Woods in the sixth round of the 2017 draft out of Louisiana Tech, and he spent the first four years of his career in Dallas before playing for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. Woods had a career-high 108 tackles (72 solo), three interceptions, 10 passes defensed, two forced fumble and one sack in 17 games in 2021. The 26-year-old has been a productive ballhawk in the NFL and should serve as Carolina's starting free safety in 2022.
Dallas Cowboys free safety Xavier Woods (ankle) is expected to miss four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain, according to a source. Woods is a key piece of Dallas' secondary, so this is a notable loss moving forward, although it's not likely to matter much in Week 3 with a putrid Dolphins offense coming to town. The Cowboys Defense/special teams is a must-start this Sunday and are an easy top-three fantasy option.
Dallas Cowboys defensive back Xavier Woods could miss Week 1 due to a hamstring injury. He suffered a strain during Saturday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. One of the bright spots in an otherwise dull defense last season, Woods would be a noticeable absence in the Dallas secondary.
Dallas Cowboys strong safety Xavier Woods exited Saturday's preseason game with a hamstring injury. Woods injured himself while attempting to dive for an interception in the second quarter of the Cowboys second preseason game. Assumed to be the starter for an already thin Cowboys secondary, Woods did not return to the game. A lengthy injury to a young player that many expect big things out of this season could be trouble for a Cowboys defense that is already expected to rank towards the bottom of the league this year. The Cowboys are awaiting further information on Woods' injury.
