Andrei Vasilevskiy Unavailable Thursday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (undisclosed) won't play on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jonas Johansson will guard the crease, while Brandon Halverson has been called up from the minors to serve as the backup. Fortunately, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said that Vasilevskiy isn't dealing with anything serious and is expected to return to action on Saturday against the New York Islanders. The Islanders ended the former Vezina Trophy winner's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. Vasilevskiy holds an 11-6-2 record with a 2.31 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and one shutout. Five of his eight losses came in his first five starts of the campaign.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Extends Winning Streak With Shutout Performance

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy pushed his winning streak to four games in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, recording his first shutout of the season with 20 saves. It was his sixth career shutout against the Flyers, which is tied for his most against a single franchise. Vasilevskiy has also stopped the Dallas Stars from scoring six times. After some early-season jitters, Vasilevskiy has produced a string of strong performances, going 9-2-0 over his last 11 starts. During that stretch, he has allowed two or fewer goals in eight contests. The big improvement in form has allowed Vasilevskiy to take his record for the season to 9-5-2. On average, he has given up 2.36 goals while registering a .913 save percentage.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Ready for Action Saturday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (undisclosed) is penciled in as a starter for Saturday's preseason finale against the Florida Panthers. An undisclosed ailment has disrupted Vasilevskiy's preparations for the season. However, it looks like he will be good to go for opening night and will get some action prior to that. Vasilevskiy will likely keep bearing a heavy workload this season, with Jonas Johansson continuing to work as his backup. The Russian netminder boasts a hugely impressive 331-163-35 career record, trailing only Sergei Bobrovsky (Florida Panthers) and Jonathan Quick (New York Rangers) in wins among active goalies.

Andrei Vasilevskiy to Return to Practice Monday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (undisclosed) is expected to return to practice next week. Lightning head coach Jon Cooper told reporters on Thursday that Vasilevskiy will resume practicing on Monday and should be ready for opening night. Vasilevskiy has missed a week of practice due to an undisclosed injury. "He's just going through some treatments and stuff that, you know, it's player management," Cooper said a week ago. Vasilevskiy had one of the best seasons of his career last year, posting a 38-20-5 record with a career-best 2.16 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He'll be one of the first goalies off the board again in fantasy drafts.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Sits Out Practice

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (undisclosed) wasn't on the ice for practice on Saturday. He also sat out a scrimmage on Friday. The former Vezina Trophy winner seems to be dealing with some health issue, but Lightning head coach Jon Cooper doesn't expect him to miss too much time. "It's player management, so he'll be out probably a few days, latest hopefully a week and then he'll be back in there," Cooper said. The Lightning boss added there is no concern that Vasilevskiy won't be ready for the team's season opener on Oct. 9 against the Ottawa Senators. Vasilevskiy has registered at least 30 wins in each of the past eight campaigns and appears poised to remain a top-tier goalie option for fantasy managers in the upcoming season.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Looks To Bounce Back In Game 2

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy will aim to rebound from a rough start to the postseason in Thursday's Game 2 against the Florida Panthers. The 2019 Vezina Trophy winner was lit up for six goals in Game 1 on Tuesday night, finishing with only 11 saves and a .625 save percentage. Tampa Bay allowed three power-play goals in the contest, and a better performance on the penalty kill by the team would be a welcome sight for Vasilevskiy, who holds a 2-6-1 record against Florida since the beginning of last year's playoffs.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Starts Against Vegas Sunday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy will face the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. He returns to the crease after watching Brandon Halverson take on the Utah Hockey Club in Saturday's matchup. Vasilevskiy will attempt to register a fourth consecutive win. His recent run of good results includes his fifth shutout of the season. Overall, Vasilevskiy has gone 33-18-3 this season, allowing 2.23 goals with a .920 save percentage. Sunday's victory would be one of the sweetest of the season for Vasilevskiy, as the Golden Knights don't lose very often on home ice. Bruce Cassidy's team has a 26-7-3 record at the T-Mobile Arena in 2024-25.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Shuts The Door Against Philadelphia

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 21 shots he faced en route to defeating the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday evening. The shot total was quite even in this game, and Vasilevskiy was able to step up when called on. This outing extended Vasilevskiy's current win streak to two games. Before this two-game win streak, Vasilevskiy held a two-game losing streak where he had a high 3.32 GAA with a .873 save percentage. However, Vasilevskiy appears to be kickstarting another impressive stretch as he held a stellar 10-1-1 record before his two-game losing streak. During this 12-game stretch, Vasilevskiy held an impressive 1.93 GAA with a .937 save percentage. Vasilevskiy remains a must-start goaltender in all formats and a top option in DFS in all matchups.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Blanks Calgary On Thursday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 27 shots on Thursday night against the Calgary Flames. The Flames had the slight advantage in the shot total but Vasilevskiy was able to lead the way. The Flames made a strong push in the third period as they logged 11 shots but Vasilevskiy shut the door. This performance extended his winning streak to seven games. During this stretch, the 30-year-old has posted a .944 save percentage with a 1.72 GAA. Since January 7, Vasilevskiy has only lost three contests in regulation and held an impressive .936 save percentage with a 1.94 GAA. Vasilevskiy remains a must-start goaltender in all formats as he will look to extend this winning streak to eight games on Saturday in Washington.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Viewed As Game-Time Decision On Thursday

According to Benjamin Pierce of the Tampa Bay Lightning, goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (illness) is viewed as a game-time decision on Thursday for their contest against the Los Angeles Kings. No. 2 goaltender Jonas Johansson (lower body) is also in questionable status for this game. As a result, the team recalled Matt Thompkins from the AHL to potentially get the starting nod. Over his past four contests, Vasilevskiy has posted a 2-2 record with a .938% SV and a 1.99 GAA. Thompkins has not seen NHL action this season but did appear in six games in 2023. Across this small stint, Thompkins posted a .892% SV with a 3.33 GAA. Vasilevskiy would be a top pick in DFS if he can turn the corner; if not, Thompkins would carry high risk in his first start of the season and would be best to fade in all formats.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Stands Tall In Thursday's Victory

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy tallied his third straight victory in Thursday evening's 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues. In this game, Vasilevskiy stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced. Tampa Bay was heavily out-shot in this contest, but the 30-year-old was able to lead the way. Over his previous six starts, Vasilevskiy has held a 5-1 record with a strong .924 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average. Overall, through 25 games, he sits with a 15-9-1 record and a .911 save percentage with a 2.38 goals-against average. Fantasy managers should continue to view Vasilevskiy as a high-end goaltender, not only given his elite production, but also heavy workload. He should be expected to get the starting nod on Sunday evening when the Lightning host the Florida Panthers.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Likely Starting On Wednesday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is the likely starting goaltender for Wednesday's road game against the New York Rangers. Backup Jonas Johansson was the lone goalie on the ice for the morning skate on Wednesday, meaning Vasilevskiy will likely start against the Rangers while Johansson could very well be the club's starting netminder for Thursday's back-to-back versus the New York Islanders. The decorated veteran missed time early following back surgery and hasn't been at his best since returning, posting a 2.85 goals-against average and an .899 save percentage in 26 games, both of which are easily career-worst figures. The Lightning have won three straight entering Wednesday's contest.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Bounces Back In Style On Monday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy bagged his first shutout of the season Monday when the team rolled past Dallas 4-0. The former Vezina winner gave up six goals against the Stars on Saturday in Dallas in an 8-1 loss but completely turned things around on home ice with 25 saves. It's been a struggle so far for Vasilevskiy, whose season debut was delayed by a back problem. Tampa's No. 1 has featured in five games, posting a 2-3-0 record with a 3.03 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage. However, Monday's shutout should do wonders for his confidence.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Could Return To Action On Friday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (back) is on the cusp of making his season debut, and his first appearance could come on Friday after the team waived Matt Tomkins. The move will allow Tampa Bay to activate Vasilevskiy from long-term Injured Reserve ahead of Friday's matchup versus Carolina. It has already been reported that Vasilevskiy will have a "good chance" to play at some point during the team's upcoming three-game road trip, which begins on Friday and also features a pair of stops early next week. Vasilevskiy's return means Jonas Johansson will have to settle into a backup role, and he likely won't be seeing a lot of action.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Could Return On Road Trip

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (back) has a "really good chance" to play sometime during the team's upcoming three-game road trip, according to head coach Jon Cooper. Vasilevskiy hasn't played yet this season after undergoing back surgery late in the offseason but is closing in on his 8-10 week prognosis. He will immediately reclaim the starting job in Tampa upon his return, pushing Jonas Johansson to the backup role. Those with Johansson in fantasy leagues may have already missed their selling window, but it isn't a bad idea to send out some offers now and see if anything can be recouped for the soon-to-be backup.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Returns To Practice On Monday

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy (back) rejoined practice on Monday. It was his first practice session since Vasilevskiy underwent back surgery on Sept. 28. He's yet to play in 2023-24, but Vasilevskiy's season debut isn't far away anymore, with the former Vezina Trophy winner expected to return after Thanksgiving. The Lightning started well with Jonas Johansson covering for Vasilevskiy, but the team has hit a rough patch recently, and Vasilevskiy's return would be a very welcome sight. The 29-year-old has produced at least 30 wins in each of the past six seasons, leading the league in the category five times.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Could Return Before December

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy could be available to the team before the end of the month, according to head coach Jon Cooper. "I don't know, I'll be disappointed if it is early December," Cooper said Monday. "Hopefully it's a little earlier. We were kind of shooting for that Thanksgiving time." It was reported that the two-time Stanley Cup champion was doing well in his recovery from Sept. 28 surgery to address a lumbar disk herniation and he has been skating with the team in full equipment since late October. Jonas Johansson has seen a heavy workload in Vasilevskiy's absence, starting nine of the club's first 11 games while posting a 2.87 goals-against average and .916 save percentage, going 5-1-3 in the process.

Andrei Vasilevskiy On Track In Rehab

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is 'on track' in his recovery from a microdiscectomy to address a lumbar herniation in his lower back three weeks ago. At the time of the procedure, Vasilevskiy was given an 8-10 week timeline for a return, knocking him out for the first two months of the season, at least. "The schedule hasn't changed," Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said on Thursday. "Everything is going to plan," Cooper added. The 2021 Conn Smythe winner is coming off a season in which he turned in a 2.65 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage across 60 starts, figures slightly below his career marks but well above the league average nonetheless. Jonas Johansson continues to be the goaltender to roster for Tampa Bay in fantasy leagues while Vasilevskiy continues his rehab.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Undergoes Back Surgery, Out At Least Two Months

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy underwent successful back surgery on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery in 8-10 weeks. Of course, this is a major blow to a Lightning club that is seemingly losing its footing in an improving Atlantic Division. The club's 92 points last season were its fewest in a non-COVID, non-lockout season since the 2011-12 campaign while the youthful Senators, Red Wings, and Sabres continue to make strides underneath them. Last season, the six-time All-Star posted a 2.65 goals-against average and .915 save percentage while going 34-22-4 across 60 appearances. Next in line between the pipes for the Lightning is Jonas Johansson who owns a career 3.32 GAA and .887 Sv% across just 35 NHL appearances.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Battling Minor Injuries

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has missed the start of training camp because he's dealing with minor injuries. Head coach Jon Cooper considers him day-to-day and doesn't think the former Vezina Trophy winner will be out long-term. Vasilevskiy also had injury issues late last term, so understandably, the team wants to have him 100 percent healthy before throwing him on the ice. Last season, the Russian netminder registered his worst goals-against average (2.65) and save percentage (.915) since becoming a full-time starter in 2016-17, but he still had a strong 34-22-4 record with four shutouts.
