Calen Addison News
San Jose Sharks defenseman Calen Addison (lower body) is considered a game-time decision on Saturday against Vancouver. Addison was supposed to return to the lineup Thursday versus Arizona but ended up sitting out a second consecutive game. It now looks like there is a good chance Addison returns on Saturday. The 23-year-old is an offensively gifted rearguard, but Addison has struggled in San Jose. With 19 games played, he has posted only six points (one goal, five assists) while registering a minus-10 rating.
San Jose Sharks defenseman Calen Addison had to call it a night early against Colorado on Sunday after suffering a lower-body injury. He saw 8:46 of ice time during 14 shifts before exiting. Addison played his 19th game for the Sharks following his arrival from Minnesota. He's logged six points (one goal, five assists) with the team, adding 26 blocks on the defensive end. It's currently unclear if Addison will be available for Tuesday's matchup against Los Angeles.
The Minnesota Wild have traded defenseman Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Adam Raska and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick. The 23-year-old blueliner was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft but was traded to Minnesota in 2020 as part of a package for winger Jason Zucker. Addison enjoyed a solid rookie campaign last season, notching 29 points in 62 games. However, 18 of those points came on the power play while he posted a poor minus-17 rating and blocked only 38 shots in just 16:07 of average ice time. He has five assists in 12 games this season, three of which have come on the man advantage while he is a minus-three in his 16:48 of ice time per game. For his part, Ruska is without a point in seven AHL games this season and has zero points and seven penalty minutes across eight career NHL contests.
The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Calen Addison from the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. The return is a 2026 fifth-round pick and depth prospect Adam Raska, which seems light given Addison's prospect pedigree and the fact he was on Minnesota's top powerplay. He did struggle at five-on-five and wasn't playing many minutes, so the trade could be good for the 23-year-old since he should get more opportunity in San Jose. Expect him to take over the first powerplay quarterback role immediately. He is a deeper league option in points-only fantasy leagues.
