John Klingberg Out For Season

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg (hip) will miss the rest of the season. The Swedish blue-liner has been on the shelf for seven games, and it's now clear we won't see him at all for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign, with him scheduled to have hip surgery at the end of the month. According to Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving, Klingberg faces a five-to-six-month rehab period. Klingberg, who will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer, finishes the season with zero goals and five assists in 14 games.

John Klingberg Placed On Long-Term Injured Reserve

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg (undisclosed) has been placed on long-term Injured Reserve. He has already missed the last two games, and the move means Klingberg isn't ready to go anytime soon. The 31-year-old is reportedly dealing with a hip issue. Klingberg, an offensive defenseman, has been largely ineffective during his debut campaign in Toronto, failing to score and notching only five assists in 14 outings. Simon Benoit has filled in for Klingberg lately, but Conor Timmins (lower body) is expected to enter the frame on Friday versus Chicago. It's going to be a season debut for the 27-year-old after Timmins sustained a lower-body injury in a preseason game.

John Klingberg Unavailable This Weekend

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg is still not available to the team for back-to-back games against the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins this weekend, as per head coach Sheldon Keefe. The veteran blueliner hasn't appeared since a Nov. 11 contest against the Vancouver Canucks as he also missed the team's two Global Series Sweden contests in his native country last week. "We'll have something for you when something's changed. At this point, there's no change in his status," Keefe said on Wednesday while adding "he's just continuing to work through things." Certainly, it's a grim picture for a player who has struggled mightily in his first season in Toronto, registering just five assists and a minus-seven rating across 14 games to this point.

John Klingberg Unlikely To Dress Friday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg is unlikely to play in Friday's contest in Stockholm versus the Detroit Red Wings, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe. The veteran blueliner has been banged up of late and missed Friday's game against the Calgary Flames before returning for Saturday's win over the Vancouver Canucks. It's been a tough start to his Maple Leafs tenure as the offense-first rear guard has yet to score a goal with just five assists and a minus-seven rating across 14 contests despite spending much of the season on the top unit of a talented Maple Leafs power play. If the 31-year-old is unable to go Friday, Simon Benoit is the likely candidate to dress in his absence.

John Klingberg Returns To Action Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg (undisclosed) will be back in the lineup Saturday versus Vancouver. He missed Friday's clash with Calgary with an unspecified ailment. Klingberg's debut campaign in Toronto hasn't quite gone according to plan, as the offensively-gifted rearguard has contributed only five assists and no goals in 13 outings. He will hope to put a stop to a seven-game point drought on Saturday. Klingberg is expected to skate on the second defensive pairing and the first power-play unit, pushing Simon Benoit out of the lineup.

John Klingberg Set To Be Available For Season Opener

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg (upper body) is expected to be deemed game-ready by head coach Sheldon Keefe when the 2023-24 NHL campaign begins for the team on Wednesday versus Montreal. Klingberg has been nursing an upper-body problem since Sept. 27 and had to sit out almost all of the preseason slate. The offensive-minded blue-liner lost a lot of valuable time to work with his new teammates, but he is trending in the right direction and should play a big part for the Maple Leafs right off the bat, with Klingberg slated to skate on the top power-play unit.

John Klingberg Forced To Exit Early Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg couldn't complete Wednesday's preseason contest versus Buffalo after "something tightened up" on him early in the game. According to head coach Sheldon Keefe, it was a precautionary move, but Klingberg will be evaluated further on Thursday. Klingberg is set to play a big role for the Maple Leafs in 2023-24, as he's been trusted with quarterbacking the first power-play unit. The Swedish blue-liner has been very impactful with the man advantage throughout his career, and he showed his quality in his Maple Leafs debut when Klingberg had a power-play assist and a game-high eight shots on goal in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to Ottawa.

John Klingberg On Track To Return Friday

Minnesota Wild defenseman John Klingberg (lower body) is expected to make his 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in Friday's Game 3 against Dallas. He missed the start of the series with a lower-body injury but is now ready to go. Klingberg registered nine points in 17 regular-season outings with the Wild after arriving from Anaheim. He was quarterbacking the first power-play unit before getting injured and Klingberg will likely take up the position against Friday, which will push Jared Spurgeon back to the second unit.

John Klingberg Set To Remain Out For Game 2

Minnesota Wild defenseman John Klingberg (lower body) isn't expected to return to the lineup for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Stars. He missed the series opener on Monday and it looks like Klingberg still needs a bit more time to recover from a lower-body injury. The Swedish blue-liner will be desperate to play in the series after spending the first eight years of his NHL career in Dallas. He struggled as a member of the Ducks this season, but did reasonably well after moving to Minnesota, recording nine points and 19 blocks in 17 outings with a plus-three rating.

John Klingberg Ready To Return Wednesday

Minnesota Wild defenseman John Klingberg (upper body) will rejoin the lineup for Wednesday's game against Colorado. The Swedish blue-liner has been battling an upper-body issue, missing three games. Klingberg, who was a trade deadline acquisition from Anaheim, has skated in nine games with the Wild, logging one goal and three assists. He will jump back into the lineup in a top-four role and should also feature heavily on the power play.

John Klingberg To Remain Out On Saturday

Minnesota Wild defenseman John Klingberg (upper body) will be unavailable for a second straight game Saturday against Chicago. He dropped out of the lineup Thursday versus Philadelphia, missing his first game since joining Minnesota from Anaheim at the start of the month. Klingberg has registered three assists and four points in nine games with his new club. Across the entire season, the Swedish blue-liner has picked up 28 points in 59 games.

John Klingberg Lands In Minnesota

The Minnesota Wild have announced that the team acquired defenseman John Klingberg from the Anaheim Ducks on Friday in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick, defenseman Andrej Sustr and the rights to forward Nikita Nesterenko. Half of Klingberg's $7 million salary will be retained by Anaheim until his one-year deal runs out in the summer. The Swedish rearguard ended a lengthy spell with the Dallas Stars last offseason to sign with the Ducks as a free agent, but things didn't work out at all for him in Anaheim and he quickly moved on. Klingberg's 50-game stint with the Ducks included eight goals, 16 assists and a minus-28 rating. He should be able to up his productivity on a better team and Klingberg's offensive prowess could provide a nice boost for Minnesota's mediocre 2.77 goals-for average.

John Klingberg Available Again Wednesday

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg (illness) will return to action Wednesday against Buffalo. He was a late scratch with a non-COVID illness for Sunday's meeting with Vegas but has had a few days to recover and is now feeling well enough to play again. He will take his usual spot on the second defensive pairing and should also jump back on the second power-play unit. Klingberg had a bit of a scoring surge before getting sidelined at the weekend, but his season overall has been a massive disappointment. The 30-year-old has managed to record only 20 points across 45 games. Colton White is coming out of the lineup Wednesday to accommodate Klingberg.

John Klingberg Battling An Illness

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg couldn't play Sunday against Vegas due to an illness. He missed his ninth game of the season. The 2022-23 campaign has been a rough one for Klingberg, as he has amassed only 20 points in 45 games and is carrying a minus-26 rating. Colton White, who was initially set to be a healthy scratch for the game, took Klingberg's spot in the lineup. The Ducks are now going to be off until Wednesday, which gives Klingberg time to recover for a bit and it's possible that he will be back for the next contest.

John Klingberg Tallies Two Assists Tuesday

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg recorded two assists as the team continued its hot spell with a 3-2 overtime victory against Chicago Tuesday. He combined with Jayson Megna to help Brett Leason tie the game at one in the second period and teamed up with Isac Lundestrom to set up Frank Vatrano for the game-winning goal 2:15 into the extra frame. Klingberg now has two multi-assist games in his past three appearances. Unfortunately, Klingberg's productivity hasn't been as good for most of the season and he has registered only 19 points in 44 games. The Swedish rearguard also has a horrible minus-25 rating next to his name.

John Klingberg Back For Ducks Thursday

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg (illness) will return from a one-game absence Thursday versus Colorado. He was out sick at the start of the week but has made a quick recovery. Klingberg replaces Kevin Shattenkirk, who is forced to miss the game with a lower-body injury. The Swedish blue-liner has had a very poor campaign with only 15 points and a minus-26 rating registered across 40 outings. Only two players in the league have a worse plus/minus. The number is set to get even worse in a matchup against the defending champions, who have just heated up with six consecutive wins.

John Klingberg Nets Two Goals Against Montreal

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg produced two goals as the team picked up only the second regulation win of the season Thursday with a 5-2 result against Montreal. He put the Ducks 2-0 up in the first period and also scored the team's third goal in the third after Cole Caufield had dragged the Canadiens back into the game. Klingberg scored with his only shots of the game, and his night also included two blocks and two penalty minutes. He finished with a plus-two rating in 18:29 of ice time. Thursday marked the end of a seven-game scoring drought for Klingberg. It's not gone very well for the Swede at his new club, with Klingberg only on 10 points through 24 games and sitting on a minus-16 rating.

John Klingberg Considered Day-To-Day

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg missed Friday's 5-1 loss to Ottawa with a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day. He sat out his first game of the campaign. Klingberg had a nice scoring surge at the start of the month, but the Ducks are struggling badly and the team's poor form has negatively impacted Klingberg's numbers. He has picked up eight points in 20 games with a minus-12 rating. The 30-year-old has managed just one point in his last seven appearances, so having some time off might even help Klingberg.

John Klingberg Extends His Point Streak

Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Klingberg managed to take his point streak to four games on Sunday, finishing a 5-3 loss to Florida with his seventh assist of the season. The Swedish blue-liner is still waiting for his first goal in a Ducks uniform, but Klingberg has finally come to life with a nice run of assists. He started his career in Anaheim with a two-point effort but went scoreless in eight games before suddenly heating up this month. Klingberg was likely dropped by a few teams during his point drought and fantasy managers should see if he's available. The 30-year-old quarterbacks the first power-play unit and logs massive minutes each night on the top defensive pairing.

John Klingberg Back In Lineup Tuesday

Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg (lower body) will play in Tuesday's playoff opener against Calgary. His status was a bit uncertain after he missed the team's regular-season finale and didn't practice on Sunday, but head coach Rick Bowness has confirmed that the Swedish blue-liner is game ready on Tuesday. Klingberg, who managed 47 points in 74 games during the regular season, was huge for the team a couple of years back in the playoffs with 21 points in 26 games, and he certainly needs to step up again if Dallas wants to take down a top-class side like Calgary.
