Michael Kesselring Expected to Make Season Debut Tuesday

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Michael Kesselring (lower body) is penciled in for his season debut on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. After recovering from a lower-body injury, Kesselring recently returned to practice, and if he avoids any setbacks during the morning skate on Tuesday, the Sabres blue line will get a nice extra piece. Last season, Kesselring played all 82 games with Utah, tallying 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists), 150 shots, 67 blocks, and 87 hits. Jacob Bryson (concussion) is also expected to be available against Columbus, giving Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff even more options in defense. Zach Metsa will definitely come out of the lineup on Tuesday after he was reassigned to the minors.

Michael Kesselring to be Re-Evaluated Next Week

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Michael Kesselring (undisclosed) must likely sit out Thursday's season opener against the New York Rangers. He has been labeled as week-to-week, and Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff announced that Kesselring will be re-evaluated next week. The 25-year-old blue-liner sustained an undisclosed injury during Wednesday's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which will delay his official debut with the Sabres. Kesselring was acquired in the offseason in a deal that sent JJ Peterka to Utah. Last season, he played all 82 games for Utah, recording 29 points (seven goals and 22 assists), along with 150 shots, 67 blocks, 87 hits, and a plus-four rating. While Kesselring plays an effective game, he does not particularly excel in any specific fantasy categories.

Michael Kesselring Traded to Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Michael Kesselring in a trade with the Utah Mammoth. Buffalo moved winger JJ Peterka to Utah in exchange for Kesselring and winger Josh Doan. Kesselring carries a $1.4 million cap hit and is set to become a restricted free agent next offseason. He has played two full NHL seasons, making 156 career appearances. The 25-year-old has recorded 53 points (12 goals, 41 assists) in 156 games, along with 133 blocks and 205 hits. Kesselring's versatility makes him a useful fantasy piece, but he only has value in deeper formats.

Michael Kesselring Good To Go Wednesday

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Michael Kesselring (illness) will play against Calgary on Wednesday. He was a question mark for the clash after missing Tuesday's practice due to an illness. Kesselring has been a two-way force for Utah on the blue line, averaging 20:27 of ice time. His role has grown in recent games due to Sean Durzi's (shoulder) absence. Newly acquired Olli Maatta will make his debut in defense for Utah on Wednesday, meaning Robert Bortuzzo will have to settle for a seat in the press box.

Michael Kesselring Battling An Illness

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Michael Kesselring (illness) didn't practice on Tuesday. He has been struck down by an illness, leaving Kesselring questionable for Wednesday's matchup against Calgary. The 24-year-old has played a big role at the back for the injury-hit Utah team, amassing five points (two goals, three assists) in 10 games with 14 shots, eight blocks, and 15 hits. Juuso Valimaki will likely re-enter the lineup on Wednesday if Kesselring isn't ready to go. Despite logging regular power-play time, Valimaki has been anonymous offensively this season, going scoreless in eight outings with seven shots on net.
