Karel Vejmelka Records Impressive Shutout

Utah Mammoth goaltender Karel Vejmelka finished Wednesday's 7-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks with a 27-save shutout. He became only the second goaltender in the league this season to shut out the Ducks, who average the third-most goals (3.48). Vejmelka, who registered his first shutout of the season, rebounded superbly after a rough outing against the San Jose Sharks on Monday, where he was pulled in the first period. The Mammoth's No. 1 now holds an 11-7-2 record for the season. Vejmelka boasts a solid 2.73 goals-against average, but he has managed only a .891 save percentage, which is one of the worst marks among regular starters in 2025-26.

JJ Peterka Rocks Ducks With Four-Point Effort

Utah Mammoth winger JJ Peterka led the demolition job in Wednesday's 7-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks, notching two goals and two assists. Peterka became the fourth Utah player with a four-point effort this season. Only the league-leading Colorado Avalanche (6) have more. After managing only six points in November, Peterka already has five points in two games this month. On Friday, the exciting winger gets a perfect matchup to maintain his hot form, as the Mammoth visit the Vancouver Canucks, who allow a league-worst 3.63 goals per game. After 28 outings, Peterka has posted 12 goals and 21 points for the season.

Logan Cooley a Game-Time Decision Monday

Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley (lower body) is considered a game-time decision for Monday's clash against the San Jose Sharks. The talented youngster was hurt during Saturday's loss to the St. Louis Blues, but he luckily escaped a serious injury. It appears likely that Cooley will play against San Jose, as he came through the morning skate without any issues. Cooley leads Utah with 23 points (14 goals, nine assists) in 26 games. If he is cleared to play, the 21-year-old will continue to hold a top-six role and a spot on the first power-play unit. Cooley has finished each of the first two meetings with the Sharks this season with one assist.

Logan Cooley Hurt in Saturday's Loss

Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley (knee) left Saturday's 1-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues early in the third period. He was involved in a knee-on-knee collision with Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko, who received a five-minute major penalty for the hit and a game misconduct. Utah could now be without a key player for some time. Cooley has so far played in all 26 games this season, leading his team in goals (14) and points (23). He began this week with a huge four-goal performance against the Vegas Golden Knights. An update on Cooley is expected to arrive before Monday's matchup against the San Jose Sharks.

Sean Durzi Available Against Canadiens

Utah Mammoth defenseman Sean Durzi (upper body) will end a 21-game absence in Wednesday's matchup against the Montreal Canadiens. The 26-year-old suffered an upper-body injury in only the second game of the season. Durzi will enter the lineup on the third defensive pairing, replacing Dmitri Simashev. A couple of campaigns back, Durzi posted 41 points (nine goals, 32 assists) in 76 games and racked up blocks for fun. He has the potential to make a fantasy impact, but Durzi has battled health issues for two years now, missing 73 regular-season contests.

Logan Cooley Erupts for Five Points in Monday's Win

Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley dominated against the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night, finishing a 5-1 victory with four goals and one assist. He recorded his third career hat trick and became the first player in franchise history to score as many as four goals in a single game. Cooley's final two goals came with the Vegas net empty. This was a hugely impressive performance from the Pittsburgh-born forward, especially considering his recent dry spell. Across his previous 11 November appearances, Cooley had settled for four points. Cooley had a hot start to the campaign with 12 points in October, so the wheels fell off very suddenly. Following Monday night, Cooley is back to averaging nearly a point per game, boasting 13 goals and eight assists after 23 outings.

Logan Cooley Signs $80 Million Deal With Mammoth

Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley has agreed to an eight-year, $80 million contract extension. The 21-year-old is finishing off his entry-level contract and will become the Mammoth's highest-paid player next season. After producing 65 points (25 goals, 40 assists) a season ago, Cooley has become a point-per-game player in 2025-26. With 11 games played, he has notched a team-high eight goals and four assists. Cooley is set to be a valuable asset for the Utah team and fantasy managers for many years to come.

Nick Schmaltz Stretches Point Streak to Seven Games

Utah Mammoth forward Nick Schmaltz extended his point streak to seven games with an assist in Sunday's 3-2 road win over the Winnipeg Jets. He collected the only helper on Mikhail Sergachev's power-play goal in the second period. Schmaltz now has a chance to match his own franchise record with an eight-game scoring streak in Tuesday's matchup against the Edmonton Oilers. During his current point streak, Schmaltz has accumulated a total of seven goals and seven assists. His hot run of form has made Schmaltz one of the NHL's leading scorers. On Sunday, he reached 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 10 games, joining Vegas star Jack Eichel at the top of the league's scoring charts.

Alexander Kerfoot Undergoes Surgery

Utah Mammoth forward Alexander Kerfoot (lower body) will have his season debut further delayed due to surgery. On Friday, Mammoth general manager Doug Armstrong announced that Kerfoot will be out 8-10 weeks following a successful procedure to repair a core muscle. Kerfoot missed training camp with a lower-body injury and was listed as week-to-week at the start of the regular season. Based on the projected recovery time, Kerfoot may not be ready for action until around Christmas. Kerfoot has produced four 40-point campaigns, but he could struggle to make the current Utah lineup. Last season, the 31-year-old notched 11 goals and 28 assists in 81 appearances.

Jack McBain  • C  •  Mammoth

Jack McBain Evaluated for Upper-Body Injury

Utah Mammoth forward Jack McBain (upper body) failed to complete Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche. He suffered an upper-body injury early in the game. McBain, who appeared to hit his head against the boards, was initially considered questionable to return, but he ended up sitting out the rest of the contest. So far this season, McBain has contributed one goal in seven games while recording 15 hits. The team is likely to provide an update on his status prior to Thursday's clash against the St. Louis Blues. If he can't play, Andrew Agozzino and Kailer Yamamoto are the candidates to step in for McBain.

Clayton Keller Grabs Four Points in Friday's Victory

Utah Mammoth winger Clayton Keller kicked into gear on Friday night, finishing a 6-3 win against the San Jose Sharks with four points. The American star collected three assists and took care of the team's last goal. The entire first line was on fire as Keller and Nick Schmaltz became the first players in Mammoth history to record four or more points in the same game. Keller has been one of the biggest disappointments in fantasy hockey early in the season, as his offensive contributions had been limited to one assist before Friday's game. Now, he appears to be back on track on paper, having notched five points in as many games.

Nick Schmaltz Celebrates Second Career Hat Trick Versus Sharks

Utah Mammoth forward Nick Schmaltz scored three goals and registered one assist in Friday's big 6-3 victory over the Utah Mammoth. Schmaltz started things off with a power-play goal and already had two markers to his name by first intermission. He completed his second career hat trick early in the third frame. The huge performance meant that Schmaltz had more points on one night than he had managed in four games leading up to the contest. He's now sitting on seven points (three goals, four assists) for the season with five games played. Utah flexed its muscles on Friday, but it was against a struggling defense, and so far this season, the team hasn't actually quite clicked offensively. Fantasy managers definitely shouldn't rush to grab Schmaltz.

Liam O'Brien Makes Season Debut Friday

Utah Mammoth winger Liam O'Brien (lower body) will make his first appearance of the season in Friday's contest against the San Jose Sharks. The veteran forward will take Kailer Yamamoto's spot in the lineup, joining Kevin Stenlund and Brandon Tanev on the fourth line. O'Brien will add physicality and grit to the Mammoth lineup, but his addition shouldn't interest fantasy managers. In 2024-25, O'Brien failed to score and had just two assists in 28 appearances, while delivering 100 hits. Across 227 career games, O'Brien has totaled 35 points (11 goals, 24 assists) with 739 hits.

Sean Durzi to Miss Four Weeks

Utah Mammoth defenseman Sean Durzi (upper body) is expected to miss four weeks of action, the team announced on Monday. Durzi's absence will start on Monday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. If he doesn't encounter any setbacks, Durzi will miss a total of 14 games. This is a tough blow for both the player and the team. Durzi has recorded one assist, two shots, four blocks, and three hits with a plus-one rating in two games this season. Center Barrett Hayton (undisclosed) could be Durzi's replacement in the lineup after Utah began the season with seven defensemen. Hayton is considered a game-time decision for Monday's contest.

Sean Durzi Hurt Against Predators

Utah Mammoth defenseman Sean Durzi (undisclosed) was injured in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports. He appeared to have gotten hurt on a hit by Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault and left the game during overtime. Durzi had a busy night against Nashville, racking up one assist, two blocks, two hits, and four penalty minutes. He'll be a significant miss for the Mammoth blue line if the injury forces Durzi to the sidelines. Utah has started the season with seven defensemen in the lineup, so a forward may step into action in Durzi's absence. If the team wants to continue with seven blue-liners, Nick DeSimone can be brought into the lineup.

Barrett Hayton Out Against Avalanche

Utah Mammoth center Barrett Hayton (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche. The 25-year-old has been ruled out for Utah's season opener after being labeled day-to-day earlier in the week. Hayton's next opportunity to play will be on Saturday against the Nashville Predators. Utah's attack will also be missing Alex Kerfoot (lower body) and Liam O'Brien (lower body) on Thursday night, and Mammoth head coach Andre Tourigny has decided to go with seven defensemen for the contest. Jack McBain, Logan Cooley, and Kevin Stenlund will carry heavy loads as centers.

Barrett Hayton Considered Day-to-Day

Utah Mammoth center Barrett Hayton (undisclosed) wore a non-contact jersey during Tuesday's practice and is considered day-to-day, Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports reports. Hayton was able to shake off an undisclosed injury early in training camp but is now bothered by a new issue. This leaves Hayton questionable for Utah's season opener against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, although he still has a couple of days left to recover. In 2024-25, Hayton became a 20-goal scorer and posted a career-high 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists) in 82 outings. With Kevin Stenlund (undisclosed) and Liam O'Brien (undisclosed) also battling injuries, Utah may have to start the campaign without several forwards.

Logan Cooley Expected to Be Available for Season Opener

Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley (undisclosed) is on track to be available for next week's season opener, Brogan Houston of the Deseret News reports. Cooley has battled an undisclosed injury during training camp and preseason, but he practiced in a regular jersey on Friday. Following the session, Mammoth head coach Andre Tourigny told reporters that Cooley won't feature in Saturday's preseason finale against the San Jose Sharks, but he will be good to go for opening night. Utah faces the Colorado Avalanche in its first game of the season on Oct. 9. Cooley posted 65 points (25 goals, 40 assists) in 75 outings during his sophomore year and finished off last season by averaging over a point per game during the final four weeks of action.

JJ Peterka Nursing Undisclosed Injury

Utah Mammoth left wing JJ Peterka (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day by head coach Andre Tourigny, Catherine Bogart of the Mammoth's official site reports. Peterka has only played in one of the team's preseason games and might not be available for the last few matchups, depending on his recovery. The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign last season with the Buffalo Sabres and will have plenty to prove after Utah inked him to a five-year, $38.5 million contract extension in the summer. Peterka should feature prominently in the Mammoth offense and could further enhance his production. In 2024-25, Peterka totaled 27 goals and 68 points in 77 games.

Connor Ingram Clears Waivers

Utah Mammoth goaltender Connor Ingram cleared waivers on Friday and can now be assigned to the AHL, The Athletic's Chris Johnston reports. Utah decided to waive Ingram on Thursday as they saw no future for him on the team. The 28-year-old has also not participated in the Mammoth's training camp. Ingram has been an AHL All-Star twice in his career and holds a 39-44-15 record in the NHL. The Mammoth will start the year with Karel Vejmelka and Vitek Vanecek as the primary options in goal.
