Emil Heineman Signs Two-Year Deal with Islanders

New York Islanders left wing Emil Heineman has signed a two-year, $2.2 million contract with the team. The Islanders acquired the restricted free agent from the Montreal Canadiens last week and now have him under contract for at least a couple of seasons. Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche has said that the team sees "a lot of potential" in Heineman, who had his rookie campaign in the NHL last season with the Canadiens. He finished the year with 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) and 173 hits in 62 games. Heineman is expected to start next season on the fourth line but could move up in the lineup if he performs well enough.

Simon Holmstrom Re-Signs with Islanders for Two Years

New York Islanders winger Simon Holmstrom has agreed to a two-year contract extension. After signing a one-year deal worth $850,000 last summer, Holmstrom received a substantial pay raise, with his new contract valued at $7.25 million and coming with an average annual value of $3.625 million. The 24-year-old earned the big boost in salary with an impressive campaign. He amassed a career-high 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) in 75 games. Holmstrom will aim to become a 50-point scorer next season while maintaining a middle-six role.

Islanders Retain Alexander Romanov on $50 Million Contract

New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov has bypassed restricted free agency to sign an eight-year, $50 million contract extension. While Romanov has never managed more than 22 points in a season during his five-year NHL career, he is highly valued for his efforts on the defensive end. In 2024-25, Romanov racked up 165 blocks and 147 hits in 64 regular-season outings. The Russian rearguard contributed four goals and 16 assists on offense. Although limited offensively, Romanov logged over 22 minutes of ice time per game (22:18) and might have an even bigger role in 2025-26 after the Islanders traded Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens.

Emil Heineman Shipped to the Islanders

The New York Islanders picked up forward Emil Heineman on Friday in a deal with the Montreal Canadiens, as the team traded away defenseman Noah Dobson. The transaction also included two first-round draft picks. Incredibly, this is the third time Heineman has been traded. He was originally a Florida Panthers draft pick but was traded to Calgary in 2021 in a deal that saw the Panthers acquire Sam Bennett. A year later, Heineman landed in Montreal after the Canadiens shipped out Tyler Toffoli. Heineman had his rookie campaign in 2024-25, recording 10 goals and 18 points with 173 hits. He will likely slot into a middle-six role in New York and may see some power-play time. Five of Heineman's 18 points this season, including three goals, came with the man advantage.

Anthony Duclair  • LW  •  Islanders

Anthony Duclair Expected to Return to Islanders Next Season

New York Islanders left wing Anthony Duclair (personal) will likely be back with the team next season. He missed the end of 2024-25 due to a personal leave. The 29-year-old left the team after Islanders head coach Patrick Roy publicly criticized him. Roy, who will remain in charge of the Islanders next season, called Duclair's play "god-awful" and said he was "lucky" to be in the lineup. The two clearly have issues to work out, but Duclair has a clean slate with new general manager Mathieu Darche. In an interview with Andrew Gross of Newsday, Darche mentioned that he had spoken with Duclair, adding that he hopes to have him ready for training camp. Duclair was a 30-goal scorer with the Florida Panthers just three years ago, but finished the 2024-25 campaign with only 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in 44 games. He should be regarded as a very risky choice during fantasy drafts in the fall.

Adam Boqvist Agrees to One-Year Extension with Islanders

New York Islanders defenseman Adam Boqvist has signed a one-year, $850,000 contract to extend his stay with the team. The Swedish rearguard joined the Islanders in late January after being picked up off waivers. Boqvist suited up for 17 games with the team, posting eight points (two goals, six assists). Earlier in the season, he featured 18 times for the Florida Panthers and had six points (two goals, four assists). Throughout his career, Boqvist has been known for his offensive skills but lacks reliability on the defensive end. The 24-year-old is already on his fourth team since debuting in the NHL in 2019-20.

Kyle Palmieri Signs Two-Year Extension with Islanders

New York Islanders right wing Kyle Palmieri has signed a two-year, $9.5 million extension. This campaign marked the final season of Palmieri's four-year, $20-million deal with the Islanders. While the veteran forward has battled some health issues, the Islanders have received decent value for money. He finished the 2024-25 campaign with 24 goals and 48 points in 82 games. Last season, Palmieri had his second career 30-goal year. In total, he has made 305 appearances with the Islanders, scoring 172 points (87 goals, 85 assists). The 34-year-old is expected to continue playing an important role in the Islanders offense next season.

Bo Horvat  • C  •  Islanders

Bo Horvat Out 4-6 Weeks with Ankle Injury

New York Islanders center Bo Horvat is expected to miss four to six weeks due to an ankle injury sustained at the World Championships, general manager Mathieu Darche announced on Thursday. While playing for Team Canada, Horvat was injured toward the end of the group stage. He finished the tournament with eight points (four goals, four assists) in six games. The Islanders will be pleased to learn that Horvat requires weeks, not months, for recovery, suggesting he should be fully healthy in time for the start of training camp in the fall. Horvat took a small step back offensively in 2024-25, but still had a solid season. He led the Islanders with 57 points (28 goals, 29 assists) in 81 games and set a career-high with 100 hits.

Semyon Varlamov Expects To Be Ready For Next Season

New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov (knee) believes he will be available for the start of next season. This campaign ended very early for Varlamov, who is recovering from a knee procedure he underwent in December. Varlamov said on Saturday that the injury had been bothering him for a long time and is on track to start skating again in June. The Russian veteran finished the campaign with a 3-4-3 record, a 2.89 goals-against average, and a .889 save percentage. Varlamov, who will turn 37 next weekend, has two more years remaining on his contract.

Ryan Pulock  • D  •  Islanders

Ryan Pulock Out On Thursday

New York Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock (undisclosed) will not play in the team's regular-season finale against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday. This means Pulock ends his 2024-25 campaign with 23 points (five goals, 18 assists), 97 shots, 155 blocks, and 100 hits in 74 games. The season has been tough for the team, and Pulock was mediocre all year. Adam Pelech (undisclosed) also won't play against the Blue Jackets, and Alexander Romanov (illness) may remain out, meaning we will see more of Scott Perunovich and Scott Mayfield. Mike Reilly and Adam Boqvist are filling the gaps in the lineup.

Adam Pelech  • D  •  Islanders

Adam Pelech Available Tuesday

New York Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech (upper body) will play in Tuesday's contest against the Washington Capitals. A bad hit by New Jersey Devils forward Paul Cotter knocked Pelech out of the lineup on Sunday, but he will not have to miss additional time, having cleared concussion protocol. Pelech will take up his usual role on the first defensive pairing alongside Ryan Pulock. The 30-year-old has totaled 21 assists, 107 shots, 86 blocks, and 73 hits in 59 appearances this season.

Ilya Sorokin  • G  •  Islanders

Ilya Sorokin Stops 25 Shots In Victory

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 25 shots he saw en route to defeating the New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon. Bo Horvat was able to break the scoreless tie in the second frame. The Devils held the slight advantage in the shot total, but Sorokin was able to lead the way. Sorokin has been sidelined since April 8 due to a lower-body injury but looked quite sharp in his return. Before his injury, Sorokin carried a 2-3 record with a 3.20 GAA and a .883 save percentage. The Islanders have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the team may opt to rest Sorokin for their final two games. If he were to sit, Marcus Hogberg would likely see the starter's crease during their final two games. Through 56 games, Sorokin has posted a 25-19-12 with a 3.01 GAA.

Adam Pelech Hurt On Sunday

New York Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech (upper body) made an early exit in Sunday's 1-0 win over the New Jersey Devils. He sustained an upper-body injury from a high hit by Devils forward Paul Cotter in the second period. This might be the last we see of Pelech in 2024-25, as the Islanders have been eliminated from playoff contention and have no incentive to rush him back into action. The 30-year-old has recorded 21 assists, 107 shots, 86 blocks, and 73 hits in 59 appearances this season. Mike Reilly, Adam Boqvist, and Scott Perunovich are the options to replace Pelech in the lineup. The Islanders have two more games to come in the regular season.

Ilya Sorokin Will Not Play Against Rangers

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin (lower body) will be unavailable for Thursday's Battle of New York against the Rangers. The Islanders lost Sorokin to a lower-body injury on Tuesday against the Nashville Predators, and the team may have to finish the regular season without him. Sorokin has been extremely busy all year, posting a 29-23-6 record with 62 starts. He has allowed 2.77 goals while logging a .905 save percentage and three shutouts. Marcus Hogberg, who is 2-4-2 for the campaign, will hold down the fort in Sorokin's absence, with Tristan Lennox filling backup duties.

Ilya Sorokin Exits On Tuesday With Injury

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin (upper body) exited Tuesday's contest early against the Nashville Predators. Sorokin was not on the ice at the start of the third period. While he allowed four goals during the first two periods, Andrew Gross of Newsday reported that his absence was injury-related. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next game on Thursday evening against the New York Islanders. Before Tuesday's game, Sorokin was riding a two-game winning streak. During this streak, he stopped 55 of the 57 shots he saw. However, prior to that recent surge, he carried a 0-3 record with a high 4.16 GAA. With the Islanders falling behind in the playoff picture, the team may provide Sorokin with extra opportunities to rest.

Noah Dobson  • D  •  Islanders

Noah Dobson Picks Up Two Points Against Wild

New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson registered two points as the team stopped a six-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. Dobson helped Casey Cizikas to tie the game at one early in the second period and popped up with a power-play goal in the third. The 25-year-old now boasts five multi-point efforts since the start of last month. He has found a way to replicate some of the form he showcased last year during his 70-point campaign. This season, Dobson has recorded 37 points (nine goals, 28 assists) in 64 games. Additionally, he has tallied 111 blocks and 55 hits.

Anthony Duclair  • LW  •  Islanders

Anthony Duclair Takes Leave Of Absence

New York Islanders left wing Anthony Duclair has decided to take some time away from the team. The decision follows harsh criticism of Duclair from Islanders head coach Patrick Roy after Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. "He was god-awful," Roy said. "He was god-awful. He had a bad game. That's why I didn't play him a lot. And he's lucky to be in the lineup. Sorry if I lose it on him right now, but that's how I feel." Duclair signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Islanders last offseason but has struggled massively throughout the season. He has recorded only 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in 44 outings. Maxim Tsyplakov, who boasts 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) through 69 games, took Duclair's spot on the second line in Thursday's practice.

Hudson Fasching  • RW  •  Islanders

Hudson Fasching Sitting On Monday With Illness

New York Islanders right wing Hudson Fasching (illness) will not suit up on Monday evening against the Columbus Blue Jackets due to an illness. As a result, Adam Boqvist (upper body) will return to the starting lineup and likely play on the third offensive line alongside Casey Cizikas and Pierre Engvall. Over his previous three contests, Fasching tallied one point and added seven shots on goal with two hits and three blocked shots. However, before this stretch, Fasching tallied just one helper over his previous nine contests with just seven total shots on goal. Through 31 total games this season, Fasching has seen his offensive production decline significantly, as he has not scored a goal and only added two helpers. Last season, he tallied 14 points in 45 games. Boqvist is a high-risk play in DFS competitions this evening.

Marcus Hogberg  • G  •  Islanders

Marcus Hogberg Starts Against Flames

New York Islanders goaltender Marcus Hogberg will guard the cage against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. This will be only his second start since February, as the Islanders have leaned heavily on Ilya Sorokin. Overall, Hogberg has made six starts this season, posting a 2-3-0 record with a 1.70 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage. Hogberg has been solid for the Islanders, but he struggled in his last outing, allowing three goals on 27 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on March 9. Saturday's matchup is a favorable bounce-back spot for Hogberg, as the Flames have had a tough time on the road all year, going 14-14-6.

Bo Horvat  • C  •  Islanders

Bo Horvat Strikes Twice In Victory

New York Islanders center Bo Horvat found the back of the net twice and powered the Islanders to their overtime victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday evening. Horvat would score his first goal of the evening in the third period. Then in overtime, Horvat would find the back of the net for the second time to seal the victory. During this contest, Horvat logged an impressive five shots on goal and added three hits with a plus-two rating. Since the start of March (10 games), Horvat has scored four goals and added two helpers. During this stretch, Horvat has averaged 3.5 shots on goal per game with 14 hits and four blocked shots. Through 67 games this season, the 29-year-old has scored 23 goals and added 24 helpers. He will look to stay productive on Saturday afternoon when the Islanders host the Calgary Flames.
