Samuel Honzek Out for Six Months After Surgery

Calgary Flames left wing Samuel Honzek (upper body) underwent surgery on Thursday and is set to miss six months. This means that Honzek's season is over, unless the Flames make a playoff run. The 21-year-old is expected to make a full recovery from an upper-body injury. Honzek suffered the injury in very unfortunate circumstances, as he was involved in a collision with teammate Mikael Backlund in a loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 15. After making his first five NHL appearances in 2024-25, Honzek became a regular in the Flames lineup this season, recording four points (two goals, two assists) and 35 hits. Connor Zary has taken over Honzek's spot on the third line, but he has been a non-factor in fantasy hockey this term.

Samuel Honzek Out Week-to-Week

Calgary Flames left wing Samuel Honzek (upper body) has been listed as week-to-week. He was hurt in a collision with teammate Mikael Backlund on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets. In 18 outings, Honzek has recorded four points (two goals, two assists) and 35 hits. His exit from the lineup will likely give a chance to return for Yegor Sharangovich, who has missed a pair of contests as a healthy scratch. While Sharangovich was a 30-goal scorer a couple of years back and flirted with a 60-point campaign, he has been largely ineffective since the start of last season. In 2025-26, Sharangovich has been limited to four points (two goals, two assists) in 16 games.

Samuel Honzek Hurt in Collision With Teammate

Calgary Flames left wing Samuel Honzek (upper body) was forced to exit Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in the second period. The Jets scored their first goal in bizarre circumstances, as Mark Scheifele took advantage of Honzek's collision with his teammate Mikael Backlund. Honzek had two hits in 7:05 of ice time before his exit. Backlund remained in the game. After 18 appearances, Honzek boasts four points (two goals, two assists) and 35 hits for his rookie campaign. He has been skating on the third line with Backlund and Blake Coleman. Yegor Sharangovich has been a healthy scratch for a couple of games, but may now receive a new opportunity to play because of Honzek's injury.

Samuel Honzek Available On Wednesday

Calgary Flames left wing Samuel Honzek (upper body) was activated from Injured Reserve on Wednesday. It looks like the young winger is ready to rejoin the lineup versus Utah. He has been out for five games with an upper-body injury. Honzek saw usage on the first line at the start of the campaign, but he has yet to score any points in four appearances. The 21-year-old is projected to rejoin the lineup as a member of the third line. It's a lesser role for Honzek, but his new linemates, Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman, have also proven to be productive. The two have combined for nine points this season.

Samuel Honzek Considered Week-To-Week With An Upper-Body Injury

Calgary Flames left wing Samuel Honzek will be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury. He got hurt on Tuesday versus Chicago, and unfortunately, it looks like the rookie winger will have to sit out multiple games. Despite skating on the first line and seeing power-play time, Honzek has gone scoreless in his first four NHL appearances, producing six shots on goal. He earned himself a top-six job by scoring seven points (one goal, six assists) in four preseason games. The Flames return to action on Saturday versus Seattle, with Matt Coronato expected to replace Honzek on the first line.
