San Jose Sharks defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin (upper body) will be sidelined for Saturday's contest against the Seattle Kraken. Furthermore, he is considered doubtful for Monday's matchup against the Calgary Flames. Mukhamadullin sustained an upper-body injury during Tuesday's loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The 23-year-old Russian scored a goal in that game, though he is not primarily known for his offensive contributions. In 30 appearances this season, Mukhamadullin has accumulated nine points (two goals, seven assists). His tally also includes 51 blocks and 25 hits. Henry Thrun, who returned from an upper-body injury on Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers, has taken Mukhamadullin's place in the lineup. Thrun has no fantasy value and recorded an empty stat line in Thursday's game, despite logging nearly 20 minutes of ice time.
The San Jose Sharks have reassigned rookie defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin to the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda. The move was expected as the Sharks enter the All-Star break and subsequent bye week and will not be back in action until Feb. 14 versus the Winnipeg Jets. The move gives the 22-year-old an opportunity to keep playing and developing in his first full season in North America. The Russian blueliner has appeared in just three games with the Sharks this season, registering an assist and four penalty minutes in that time. He has produced five goals and 26 points across 39 games with the Barracuda after he notched one goal and 10 points across 12 games with them last season following the conclusion of his KHL season in Russia. San Jose sits 31st in the NHL with a 14-32-5 record entering the break and will have a decent shot at the No. 1 overall pick in 2024 as a result.
Shakir Mukhamadullin Likely To Begin Season In AHL
San Jose Sharks defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin is likely to begin the season with the San Jose Barracuda, as per head coach David Quinn. Quinn noted he would like to see the 2020 first-rounder play with more confidence while playing bigger minutes with the club's farm team. Acquired last season in the trade that sent 40-goal scorer Timo Meier to the New Jersey Devils, Mukhamadullin notched six goals and 25 points with Ufa Salavat Yulayev of the KHL in his native Russia before coming overseas to tally one goal and 10 points across 12 games with the Barracuda. The 21-year-old could very well see a role with the Sharks sooner than later considering his professional seasoning in the KHL, the second-best professional hockey league in the world.
