Edmonton Oilers right wing Vasily Podkolzin tallied a goal and an assist during Saturday's victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Podkolzin scored in the opening minute of the second frame on a snap shot. Later in this period, Podkolzin would tack on the secondary assist on Adam Henrique's sixth goal of the season. In this contest, Podkolzin also added three shots, two hits, two blocks, and a +2 rating. Over his past eight contests, Podkolzin has only tallied five points (two goals, three helpers) but has averaged two shots on goal and two hits in each contest during this span. Despite playing on the second line alongside Leon Draisaitl, Podkolzin remains a high-upside, target in DFS at a low salary as he continues to score at an inconsistent pace.
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired winger Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round draft pick. The Russian forward switched clubs in Canada following 137 appearances with the Canucks. Podkolzin, who was a top-10 pick in 2019, hasn't been very impactful in the NHL, notching 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists). He went goalless in 19 games with two assists last term. The trade allows Podkolzin to reboot his career, but massive improvement will be needed from him for the 23-year-old to become fantasy-relevant.
Vasily Podkolzin Makes Stanley Cup Playoffs Debut Thursday
Vancouver Canucks right wing Vasily Podkolzin is projected to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in Game 5 against the Oilers on Thursday. He skated on the fourth line Thursday morning. Podkolzin had a disappointing regular-season campaign with zero goals and two assists in 19 outings. The 22-year-old did much better in the minors, notching 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists) in 44 games. The Canucks are making multiple changes to the lineup on Thursday, with Linus Karlsson, Sam Lafferty, and Ilya Mikheyev sitting as healthy scratches. Podkolzin is penciled in to skate with Nils Aman and Phillip Di Giuseppe, who's missed two games for personal reasons.
Vasily Podkolzin Scores Lone Goal In Defeat Saturday
Vancouver Canucks right-winger Vasily Podkolzin has had some nice moments this season. He scored the lone goal on Saturday night for Vancouver during their 4-1 home loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He played 12:53 in all including 62 seconds on the man advantage. The Russian scored 6:18 into the second period to tie the game at 1 when Oliver Ekman-Larsson shot the puck towards the net. Podkolzin was able to see the puck and tap it past Tristan Jarry. It was his fifth goal of the season. One has to wonder when the Russian will see more of a top-six role with Vancouver's season almost over before the calendar year ends.
