Daulton Varsho Back in Lineup on Monday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hand) is returning to the lineup on Monday against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene. Varsho will play center field and bat fifth in his first game since Friday. The 29-year-old left that contest - a 7-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers - after taking a pitch off the right hand, but X-rays came back negative. While injuries have limited Varsho to 48 games this year, he has been a tremendous source of power over 182 plate appearances, having slashed .226/.280/.567 with 15 homers, 42 RBI, and 26 runs scored. Despite the missed time, Varsho has a shot at his third 20-HR campaign. However, with just one stolen base, he's unlikely to post a fourth straight season with double-digit steals.

Daulton Varsho Sitting Again on Sunday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hand) remains out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers at the Rogers Centre. Myles Straw will make another start in center field and will bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff. Varsho will miss his second straight game after being hit by a pitch on his right hand in the series opener on Friday night. X-rays on the 29-year-old's hand came back negative, though, so he's considered day-to-day and could be back on the field for Monday's series opener in Cincinnati against the Reds. Varsho was available off the bench in Saturday's loss, but he didn't get into the ballgame. Straw is a light-hitting bench outfielder who should be avoided as a sleeper for DFS lineups on Sunday. He's hitting .267 (63-for-236) with four homers and 11 steals on the year.

Daulton Varsho Out on Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hand) is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the series against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, but he's doing well, according to manager John Schneider. Varsho is just dealing with some pain and swelling after X-rays came back negative after he was hit by a pitch on his right hand in Friday's loss. The Blue Jays well test him out to see if he could be a defensive replacement or pinch-hitter on Saturday. Myles Straw will start in center field and bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester. It sounds as though the 29-year-old Varsho is day-to-day and has a shot to return to a starting role for Sunday's series finale in Toronto. Straw has modest speed (11 steals) for a bench outfielder but should be avoided in DFS lineups out of the nine-hole against a pitcher he has yet to face in his career.

Daulton Varsho Exits After Hit by Pitch, X-Rays Negative

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hand) left a 7-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers after taking a pitch off the right hand in the bottom of the seventh inning. X-rays came back negative after the game, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Varsho went 0-for-2 on Friday before the Blue Jays subbed in Myles Straw to pinch run for him and finish the game in center field. The 29-year-old Varsho didn't make his 2025 debut until April 29 after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, and he has also missed time with a hamstring strain. When healthy, Varsho has delivered a power-packed .226/.280/.567 line with 15 homers, 42 RBI, and 26 runs scored over 47 games and 182 trips to the plate. He has been especially productive in August, having gone deep seven times and driven in 22 runs in 21 games. It's unclear if Varsho will be in the lineup on Saturday, so fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status.

Daulton Varsho Reinstated and Starting on Friday

The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list before Friday's series opener against the visiting Kansas City Royals and placed outfielder George Springer (concussion) on the seven-day concussion IL in a corresponding move. Varsho is starting in center field and batting seventh in his return on Friday versus Royals right-hander Michael Wacha. It will be Varsho's first game in the big leagues since May 31. He got a late start to 2025 and has only played in 24 games, and although he's hitting just .207 (19-for-92), he has cleared the fences eight times. Varsho isn't going to be an asset for fantasy managers in the batting average department, but hopefully he can continue his power stroke now that he's back. The 29-year-old has a hit in just two career at-bats against Wacha.

Daulton Varsho Nearing Big-League Return

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) is having his rehab assignment moved from Single-A Dunedin to Triple-A Buffalo and could rejoin the big league club on Monday for their series against the Baltimore Orioles, according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. Varsho has missed time this season due to both shoulder and hamstring ailments, and he last appeared for the Jays on May 31. In exactly 100 plate appearances, he's slashed .207/.240/.543 with eight home runs and 20 RBI. Varsho's speed may be somewhat limited as he works his way back from a hamstring injury, but he was a major power threat before getting hurt. His stellar defense could keep him in the lineup every day, but the Blue Jays also have Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw as centerfield options on the big league roster.

Daulton Varsho Close to a Return

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said today that Daulton Varsho (hamstring) is moving his rehab to Triple-A Buffalo by Friday and is expected to remain there through the weekend. Barring any setbacks, he could be activated from the injured list early next week. Varsho has played in four rehab games so far and has homered in his last two contests. Before landing on the injured list, the 29-year-old slashed .207/.240/.543 with eight home runs and a stolen base this season. Coming back from a hamstring issue could put into question how aggressive he will be on the basepaths when he comes back. Fantasy managers in deep-leagues can continue to stash Varsho as he's close to returning from the injured list.

Daulton Varsho Begins Rehab, Timeline TBD

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Dunedin, where he's expected to play 3-5 innings in the outfield. While the team hasn't set a firm rehab timeline, Varsho is eligible to return from the 10-day IL on July 25. The 27-year-old has struggled this season, slashing .207/.240/.543, marking a career-low OBP. Despite his inconsistency, Varsho's power/speed profile gives him fantasy appeal down the stretch. Managers in deeper leagues should consider stashing him in hopes of a second-half breakout.

Daulton Varsho Off-Schedule on Rehab Assignment?

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Monday in the Florida Complex League, but it "doesn't appear he did," according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. It's been a rough year so far for Varsho. He missed nearly all of April while recovering from shoulder surgery, then strained his hamstring on May 31 and has not played since. In exactly 100 plate appearances before getting hurt, Varsho slashed .207/.240/.543 with eight home runs, 20 RBI, 14 runs scored, and one stolen base. In an admittedly small sample, his 17.2% barrel rate was by far the best of his career and his .509 xSLG largely backed up his power surge. Much of Varsho's value to the Blue Jays comes from his stellar defense, so they'll want to be sure his hamstring is ready to go before he rejoins the team. It's unclear at this point whether he suffered a setback in his recovery efforts, or if the team's plans for him were altered for some other reason.

Daulton Varsho to Start Rehab Assignment Monday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment in the Florida Coast League on Monday, according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. Varsho could rejoin the Blue Jays out of the All-Star break if things go smoothly. The 29-year-old hasn't played since he strained his left hamstring on May 31. He also missed almost all of April while recovering from shoulder surgery. When healthy, Varsho has brought plenty of power to the table this year. The two-time 20-home run hitter is batting .207/.240/.543 with eight HRs in 100 plate appearances. Myles Straw has gotten the majority of starts in center field with Varsho unavailable.
