Baltimore Orioles reliever Dillon Tate (elbow) will remain on the 15-day injured list. The right-hander was battling a forearm flexor strain and recently finished a rehab assignment. Unfortunately, he's now dealing with an elbow stress reaction and was shut down as a result. Tate finished the 2022 season with a 4-4 record and a 3.05 ERA with 60 strikeouts and 57 holds in 67 games. However, considering the latest update, nobody can fault any fantasy manager that drops him from the roster.
New York Yankees outfielder Greg Allen (hip) landed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. He's dealing with a right hip flexor strain, an injury he suffered during Friday's meeting with the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, Allen's absence isn't a significant loss for most fantasy managers, considering he's hitting .214 with five runs, three hits, and one home run in 10 games. He'll undergo further testing on Monday. But to fill the void, the Yankees recalled Oswaldo Cabrera from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the Padres feel infielder Rougned Odor (groin) could avoid a trip to the injured list. The 29-year-old suffered a groin strain during Friday's game versus the Cubs and was expected to land on the IL. While there's still a chance it could happen, the team will wait at least a few days before deciding. In the meantime, Ha-Seong Kim should handle most of the work caused by Odor's absence.
According to Tampa Bay skipper Kevin Cash, shortstop Wander Franco (hamstring) is day-to-day. The 22-year-old was in the lineup on Saturday for the first game of a doubleheader versus the Red Sox, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. However, he was held out of the second game because of left hamstring soreness and was replaced by Taylor Walls. Considering Franco had been dealing with a shoulder issue, he may be due for a few days off, although fantasy managers will remain optimistic he'll be back in the lineup soon.
According to Rays manager Kevin Cash, outfielder/designated hitter Luke Raley (ribs) is day-to-day. The 28-year-old has been dealing with pain in the right side of his abdomen, recently costing him both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Red Sox. As a result, he underwent an MRI and was diagnosed with a mild intercostal muscle strain. Raley has played well this season, hitting .244 with 23 runs, 10 homers, 21 RBI, and seven stolen basis. Fortunately, it appears he could be back in the lineup soon, so fantasy managers will keep their fingers crossed.
Philadelphia Phillies reliever Craig Kimbrel struck out one over a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals. He entered the ninth inning to protect a two-run Phillies lead. The 35-year-old needed just 11 pitches to collect his eighth save of the season. He owns a 5.32 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 33: 11 K: BB across 22 innings in 2023. Kimbrel is a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities and should continue to be Philadelphia's primary closer until Jose Alvarado (elbow) is activated from the injured list.
Chicago Cubs right-hander Hayden Wesneski is expected to replace Justin Steele (forearm) in the rotation. Wesneski was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday and used out of the bullpen. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out four in Tuesday's relief appearance. According to Cubs manager David Ross, Steele will miss his next two starts, and the plan is for Wesneski to replace him in the starting rotation. Wesneski struggled with a 5.03 ERA and 1.32 WHIP before being demoted to Triple-A Iowa in mid-May. The 25-year-old will draw a two-start week. He has a tough matchup on the road Tuesday against the Angels and then is scheduled to face the Giants Sunday. Despite having two starts, Wesneski is considered a risky fantasy option in Week 11.
Pittsburgh Pirates reliever David Bednar allowed one hit over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. He entered the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The 28-year-old worked around a one-out single by Jordan Walker to secure the Pirates' victory. He has now recorded a save in back-to-back games. Bednar is 12-for-13 in save opportunities with a 1.17 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, and a 29:1 K: BB across 23 innings. Bednar is one of the top closers in baseball in 2023, and fantasy managers should continue to roll with him in all leagues.
New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole exited Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to cramping. He allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings before leaving. The 32-year-old threw 80 pitches, but cramping kept the right-hander from pitching deeper into the game. Cole is considered day-to-day for now. He owns a 2.82 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 84: 28 K: BB across 79 2/3 innings. Cole is tentatively scheduled to face the Boston Red Sox for his next start on Friday.
The Chicago Cubs placed left-hander Justin Steele (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Saturday. Steele was removed from Wednesday's start early with a mild left forearm strain. The 27-year-old will miss the next few weeks as the move was retroactive to June 1. Steele had been terrific this season before landing on the injured list. He owned a (6-2) record with a 2.65 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 58:16 K: BB across 68 innings in 2023. Chicago recalled catcher Miguel Amaya in a corresponding move. The Cubs will most likely have Hayden Wesneski replace Steele in the Cubs rotation. Wesneski owns a 4.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 32: 11 K: BB across 43 innings in 2023.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder/designated hitter Luke Raley (abdomen) remains out for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with Boston. Raley was scratched for Game 1, with manager Kevin Cash reporting that the 28-year-old felt something on the right side of his stomach. Hopefully, this isn't a precursor for something more severe, considering how well he's played. In the meantime, Harold Ramirez, who filled in at DH, may remain in the lineup.
