Hyeseong Kim Heading To The Bench On Tuesday

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Hyeseong Kim is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Athletics. This appears to be a regular rest day for Kim against a left-handed starting. Since being called up, Kim has gone 7-for-22 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases in nine games. He doesn't have great fantasy value, but is worth rostering in deep leagues while Tommy Edman (ankle) is sidelined. On Tuesday, Miguel Rojas will cover second base and bat eighth versus left-hander Jeffrey Springs. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly ahead of first pitch.

Max Muncy Sitting Versus Southpaw

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Athletics. This appears to be a routine rest day for Muncy with a left-handed starting pitcher on the mound for the A's. Normally, Muncy is worth rostering in fantasy formats due to his power ability. However, Muncy has been awful to start the season as he's slashing .186/.311/.294 with one home run and seven RBI heading into this contest. Kike Hernandez will bat sixth and cover third base versus left-hander Jeffrey Springs on Tuesday. Muncy is probably worth holding in deep leagues, but isn't offering much fantasy value right now.

Gage Workman Gets Designated For Assignment

Chicago White Sox infielder Gage Workman (hip) was activated off the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment by the organization. Workman only managed to play in one game for the White Sox before going down with a hip injury. He was traded to the White Sox from the Chicago Cubs a few weeks ago. Workman is a Rule 5 pick, so he'll be offered back to the Detroit Tigers, assuming he clears waivers. Last season, Workman slashed .280/.366/.476 with 18 home runs, 89 RBI, and 30 stolen bases in 126 games in Double-A with the Tigers organization. Workman appears to be able to do enough with the bat to warrant a bench spot on an MLB roster.

Alejandro Kirk Avoids Concussion, Available On Tuesday

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk (head) is not in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite that, Jays' manager John Schneider said that Kirk has passed concussion protocol testing and is likely available off the bench for this game. This is good news after Kirk was hit in the head by a backswing during Sunday's contest. The expectation is that Kirk will be back in the starting lineup on Wednesday. For now, Tyler Heineman will cover behind the plate and bat eighth versus right-hander Shane Baz on Tuesday.

Jorge Polanco  • 3B  •  Mariners

Jorge Polanco Heads To The Bench

Seattle Mariners infielder Jorge Polanco is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees. After a rough 2024 campaign, Polanco has bounced back nicely early this year. He's slashing .327/.372/.673 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 31 games. Despite that, Polanco will head to the bench against tough left-hander Max Fried on Tuesday. In his absence, Mitch Garver will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter against Fried. Garver has good career numbers against left-handed pitching, but Fried has been on another level to start the season. That being said, Garver won't be a recommended streaming option while Polanco can be benched in fantasy formats on Tuesday.

Jordan Lawlar  • SS  •  Diamondbacks

Jordan Lawlar Making Season Debut On Tuesday

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Jordan Lawlar will make his season debut against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. Lawlar was called up on Monday after hitting .336/.413/.579 with six home runs and 13 steals with Triple-A Reno. The 22-year-old is a top prospect that is viewed as a five-category fantasy contributor. His role in Arizona is unclear, but he figures to get significant playing time off the bench at multiple positions. Lawlar struggled during his 14-game stretch with the D-Backs in 2023, but has a ton of potential. He'll cover shortstop and bat eighth versus left-hander Robbie Ray on Tuesday. Lawlar is someone that needs to be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Rich Hill  • SP  •  Royals

Royals Sign Rich Hill To Minor-League Deal

The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent left-hander Rich Hill to a minor-league deal on Tuesday, the club announced. Hill will report to the team's spring training complex in Surprise, Ariz., and is expected to join Triple-A Omaha soon. Despite being 45 years old, the veteran southpaw is giving it another go as he tries to return to the big leagues for a 21st season. The former fourth-round selection by the Chicago Cubs in 2002 out of Michigan doesn't have much left in the tank but could provide the Royals with some left-handed pitching depth at some point this year, either as a spot starter or long-reliever out of the bullpen. For fantasy purposes, he can continue to be ignored everywhere. Hill appeared in just four games out of the Boston Red Sox's bullpen in 2024 and allowed two earned runs on a homer while walking three and fanning five.

Oneil Cruz  • CF  •  Pirates

Oneil Cruz Remains Absent Against Mets

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz (back) continues to sit out for Tuesday's contest at Citi Field against the hosting New York Mets. Ji Hwan Bae will get the start in center field for the Bucs and will hit eighth against Mets right-hander Kodai Senga. A sore back has now kept Cruz out for a third straight game. If the 26-year-old is unable to return to the lineup by later this week/weekend, it could turn into an injured-list situation, so fantasy managers must keep a close eye out. Cruz hasn't homered since April 26, has one extra-base hit in May and has gone 6-for-31 (.194) with eight walks and 14 strikeouts in nine games this month to drop his season line to .238/.369/.462. The Dominican is still a must-roster player in all fantasy leagues and has eight homers, 16 RBI and 23 runs in 130 at-bats. Bae has gone hitless in only five at-bats this year, although he does have two stolen bases.

Tanner Houck  • SP  •  Red Sox

Tanner Houck To Make His Next Start On Sunday

"As of now," Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that struggling right-hander Tanner Houck will make his next start on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. MassLive's Chris Cotillo writes that there seems to be a little wiggle room for Houck, who has allowed double-digit runs in fewer than three innings in two separate outings already in 2025. The 28-year-old is at a loss for answers to why he's been so bad through his first nine starts of the season while sporting a nightmarish 8.04 ERA (6.13 FIP), a 1.69 WHIP, a league-high 57 hits allowed, a league-high 39 earned runs allowed and a league-high five hit by pitches after he was a first-time All-Star just last year. The Red Sox are going to give Houck at least another start to try to figure something out, and it will come against the offensively-challenged Braves. Even though it's a friendly matchup on paper, we'd suggest avoiding Houck right now.

Josh Smith  • 3B  •  Rangers

Josh Smith Remains Out On Tuesday Against Rockies

Texas Rangers infielder/outfielder Josh Smith (back) remains out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the visiting Colorado Rockies at Globe Life Field. Corey Seager (hamstring) was officially placed on the 10-day injured list for the second time this year on Tuesday as well, so Ezequiel Duran will make his third straight start at the 6 and will bat ninth against Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland. The 27-year-old Smith is dealing with lower-back soreness and will miss his second straight game, although it's not considered a serious ailment. When he's cleared to return to action, he'll likely take over starting duties at shortstop in Texas until Seager returns. The 25-year-old Duran will be a weak DFS play on Tuesday at the bottom of the batting order, even against the Rockies. He's hitting .130 (3-for-23) on the year with no homers and an RBI. Duran has a hit and RBI in just two career at-bats against Freeland.

Tyler Fitzgerald  • 2B  •  Giants  |  Casey Schmitt  • 1B  •  Giants

Tyler Fitzgerald, Casey Schmitt Starting Rehab Assignments On Tuesday

San Francisco Giants infielders Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) and Casey Schmitt (oblique) are both starting their minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. Fitzgerald is at second base and is batting leadoff, while Schmitt is at first base and hitting second for the River Cats. Fitzgerald is recovering from a fractured left rib, but barring setbacks, both infielders could rejoin the major-league roster in San Francisco by later this week or the weekend. The 27-year-old Fitzgerald is more fantasy relevant, as he'll likely return to regular playing time at the keystone with the Giants when he returns from the injured list. He hit .280 in 96 games a year ago with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases, making him attractive as a middle-infield option for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues.

Kyle Higashioka Returns From Injured List

The Texas Rangers reinstated catcher Kyle Higashioka (intercostal) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, according to the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant. The Rangers haven't released their starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies yet, so fantasy managers will want to check back before throwing Higgy back into their starting lineups. The 35-year-old veteran backstop played in only two minor-league rehab games and will return to split duties behind the plate with Jonah Heim in Texas. Higashioka broke out with the San Diego Padres in 2024 for a career year with 17 home runs and 45 RBI, but he hit just .220 and won't have nearly as much fantasy value in Texas as he splits playing time essentially down the middle with Heim. He'll return to a .254/.279/.390 slash line with just one homer and eight RBI in 17 games played this year.

Corey Seager  • SS  •  Rangers

Corey Seager Officially Goes Back On Injured List

The Texas Rangers officially placed shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) back on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right-hamstring strain and reinstated catcher Kyle Higashioka (intercostal) from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. This will be the second time this year already that Seager has been on the IL with his hamstring injury. The 31-year-old two-time World Series MVP missed two games last week before returning on Saturday to hit two home runs, but he felt more hamstring tightness and was held out another two games on Sunday and Monday. This time around, he could miss more time as Seager looks to put the injury in the past for good. Seager should be stashed in all fantasy formats while he recovers. Josh Smith (back) should be the primary option at the 6 in the meantime, although he also missed Monday's game. Ezequiel Duran has made starts at short each of the last two games.

Luke Jackson  • RP  •  Rangers

Luke Jackson Optimistic After Taking Line Drive Off His Hand

Texas Rangers closer Luke Jackson's hand is still swollen on Tuesday, but he's very optimistic after taking a comebacker off his hand in Monday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies. The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports that Jackson has a decent amount of strength and is squeezing a stress ball after initial X-rays on Monday night came back negative for any fractures or breaks. It sounds as though the 33-year-old veteran should avoid a trip to the injured list, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he's not available if a save situation arises again on Tuesday. Jacob Webb replaced Jackson on Monday night in the 2-1 win for his first save of the year, but Texas could give Chris Martin or Robert Garcia the save opportunity on Tuesday if Jackson is unavailable. The main takeaway is that Jackson shouldn't be forced to miss extended time.

Ronald Acuna Jr. To See Three Plate Appearances In First Rehab Game

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said that outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) will likely get three plate appearances in his first minor-league rehab game on Tuesday night in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. It will allow him to most likely play four to five innings in right field, with the Braves treating it like it's his first spring training game. Although there is no official timetable for the former MVP to make his 2025 season debut, the Braves have been targeting a return for Acuna at some point in May. At the same time, they aren't going to rush the 27-year-old superstar back, as they want him to be ready to play every day in right field when he's eventually activated from the injured list. The most likely scenario is that we see Acuna make his return in late May, barring a setback on his rehab assignment. Acuna may not run as much in 2025 coming off a torn ACL, but he still has the skills to be a difference-maker in fantasy.

Max Scherzer  • SP  •  Blue Jays

Max Scherzer Now Dealing With Back Tightness

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) experienced some back tightness after his last bullpen session and didn't end up throwing on Tuesday in Toronto, according to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon. Scherzer's timeline has changed a bit as a result, but the team is hoping he can throw again this week. The 40-year-old three-time Cy Young winner made just one start with Toronto earlier this year before landing on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his troublesome right thumb. He has had multiple setbacks since and is now dealing with a back ailment that has complicated his recovery. It doesn't sound like a serious issue, but given all the injuries he's dealt with in recent seasons as he ages, fantasy managers have to wonder when exactly he'll make his return. Now on the 60-day IL, Scherzer cannot return until at least May 29, but his absence will probably stretch into June.

Ben Lively  • SP  •  Guardians

Guardians Place Ben Lively On 15-Day Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians placed right-hander Ben Lively (forearm) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with a right flexor-tendon strain and recalled right-hander Zak Kent from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move, according to MLB.com's Tim Stebbins. Lively was pulled from his start early on Monday night against the Milwaukee Brewers after experiencing forearm inflammation, and now he'll miss at least the next two weeks. Fantasy managers should be prepared for the 33-year-old veteran's absence to extend into June. In the short term, it's expected that Kolby Allard will step into Lively's rotation spot in Cleveland, making him a waiver-wire candidate in AL-only formats. Lively has been solid in his nine starts in 2025 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, but his 16.3% strikeout rate leaves a lot to be desired for fantasy managers.

Roki Sasaki  • SP  •  Dodgers

Roki Sasaki Searching For More Velocity

The Los Angeles Times' Jack Harris writes that Los Angeles Dodgers Japanese rookie right-hander Roki Sasak hasn't hit 99 mph on his fastball since his adrenaline-fueled debut in his MLB debut in Tokyo, Japan, to start the season and has dropped as low as 92-93 mph since then. Sasaki hit 100-plus mph on each of his first four big-league pitches and eclipsed 99 mph eight times in the first inning on March 19 against the Cubs. But in seven games since then, the 23-year-old phenom has averaged just 96 mph with his four-seamer. "It's not an ideal situation," pitching coach Mark Prior said. "Clearly, the fastball is not gonna carry through the zone at 93 very effectively." The problem is Sasaki needs premium velocity to make his fastball competitive because it doesn't have much spin or "vertical break." The Dodgers are working on mechanical fixes for Sasaki, who currently has an underwhelming 4.72 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 15.6% strikeout rate and concerning 14.3% walk rate in eight starts.

Oswaldo Cabrera Placed On 10-Day Injured List With Fractured Ankle

The New York Yankees announced on Tuesday that they placed infielder/outfielder Oswaldo Cabrera (ankle) on the 10-day injured list with a left-ankle fracture and reinstated infielder DJ LeMahieu (calf) from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. Cabrera suffered the injury while running the bases in Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners and had to be taken off the field via ambulance, so fantasy managers shouldn't be all that surprised that he sustained a serious injury. There's no timeline for the 26-year-old's return, but he'll be facing an extended absence and likely won't be able to return until the second half of the season. With both Cabrera and Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique) now out, both LeMahieu and rookie Jorbit Vivas should see regular playing time moving forward in the Bronx. The switch-hitting Cabrera was hitting .243/.322/.308 with a homer, 11 RBI and 17 runs as New York's primary third baseman.

Jason Foley To Have Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Jason Foley (shoulder) will have season-ending right-shoulder surgery, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Foley recorded a career-best 28 saves for Detroit while also posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB in 60 relief innings in 2024 in his fourth year in the big leagues. However, he was optioned to Triple-A Toledo to begin the year and then landed on the injured list in mid-April with a right-shoulder strain. Before being shut down, he threw 6 2/3 shutout innings with the Mud Hens with nine strikeouts and no walks in five relief appearances. Fantasy managers holding him in deeper leagues in hopes that he'd return to Detroit at some point this year in a high-leverage role can now cut bait in redraft leagues. The Tigers will move forward with Will Vest and Tommy Kahnle as their co-closers.
