Jerad Eickhoff News
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff and catcher James Ritchie to minor league deals on Monday, according to a source. Eickhoff, 31, has made 85 appearances (80 starts) for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets in his six-year career, and he had an 8.69 ERA with 10 walks, 13 strikeouts and nine home runs allowed in 19 2/3 innings over four starts with the Mets in 2021. His best season came in 2016 with the Phillies, when he went 11-14 with a 3.65 ERA with 167 K's and 42 walks in 197 1/3 innings over 33 starts. Ritchie, 28, has yet to make his MLB debut after being taken in the 13th round by the Houston Astros in 2014. He hit .317 with an .846 OPS in 79 games for Triple-A Reno in 2021.
New York Mets starting pitcher Jerad Eickhoff had a disaster of an outing Tuesday, allowing 10 runs on seven hits and five walks in just 3 1/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves. He struck out four batters. The Mets were simply in need of outs in this one with the bullpen heavily taxed, so Eickhoff was left in the game long after it became clear that he would not find success. He can be expected to be cut from the roster in the coming days, which will mark the third time he's been designated for assignment for the Mets in just the past few weeks. He's clearly well off the fantasy radar.
New York Mets right-hander Jerad Eickhoff will get the starting nod on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets didn't have many choices given their banged-up rotation and the fact they just played a doubleheader on Monday, so Eickhoff will get another start. We would recommend looking elsewhere for a deep sleeper in DFS, as Eickhoff has allowed nine earned runs on 23 hits (six home runs) while walking five and striking out nine in four outings (three starts) over just 16 1/3 innings pitched in his first season in New York. The only reason he keeps getting chances for the Mets is because of how banged up their starting pitching has been this season. It would be wise to avoid the 31-year-old.
