Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jung Ho Kang has been designated for assignment by the organization on Friday. Kang struggled at the plate this season, so it's not surprising to see the Pirates decide to move on. Kang hit .169/.222/.395 over 65 games, so that's not a batting line you'd love to see. Colin Moran and Jose Osuna will likely split the playing time at third base for the rest of the season
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the Pirates' 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Cardinals. Kang did not start the game but pinch hit for Colin Moran in the eighth. Kang's home run came in the 10th inning, closing the deficit to one run. Despite flashes of power, Kang is hitting just .184 on the season and should not be owned in fantasy leagues.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang will be starting and batting seventh against Detroit Tigers left-handed starter Daniel Norris. Since returning from the injured list on June 8, Kang has hit .222 with a home run and four runs batted in. In his career against LHP, Kang is a .212 hitter with eight home runs and 24 RBI. He's a cheap DFS option with some pop in his bat, making him an okay contrarian option. Melky Cabrera will play right field and bat fifth, while Elias Diaz will catch and bat sixth. Cabrera is hitting .353 with three home runs vs LHP this year, and is also a cheaper option in the heart of a solid Pirates lineup.
Jung Ho Kang At Shortstop, Kevin Newman Out Sunday
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang will get the start at shortstop on Sunday with Kevin Newman taking the day off. Kang is hitting seventh in the lineup against Brewers starting pitcher Chase Anderson. Kang just returned from the injured list on Saturday and was hitting only .132/.202/.297 with four home runs and eight RBI before his injury. The 32-year-old has some power but must play regularly to be an option in deep mixed leagues. Unless Colin Moran falls flat at third base, Kang will likely be a bench bat for the Bucs moving forward.
Corey Dickerson, Jung Ho Kang To Be Activated Saturday
The Pittsburgh Pirates plan to activate outfielder Corey Dickerson (shoulder) and third baseman Jung Ho Kang (oblique) from the injured list on Saturday. Dickerson has been out since April 3, while Kang has been on the shelf since May 11. Pittsburgh's outfield is pretty crowded as it stands with Bryan Reynolds, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco starting most days, and Melky Cabrera has been a very serviceable fourth outfielder. Kang won't be guaranteed much playing time at the hot corner over Colin Moran until he proves himself. Neither Dickerson nor Kang need to be snagged right away in mixed leagues. Give them some time to see if they factor into the Pirates long-term plans first.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang (oblique) was cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. Kang should be able to return from the injured list this week, barring any setbacks. He was hitting just .133/.204/.300 with four home runs and eight RBI in his first 90 at-bats, so there's no guarantee that he'll be playing regularly over Colin Moran at the hot corner when he returns. Kang does have power upside in deeper mixed leagues, though, but he needs to be playing regularly.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang (oblique), who has been on the injured list since May 13 with a left side strain, is hitting in the cages with no restrictions while also throwing and fielding grounders. He'll hit on the field in the coming days, with the final step being a rehab assignment. Expect the Pirates to give Kang plenty of minor league at-bats, as he was hitting just .133 with a .504 OPS in 31 games before his injury. Colin Moran has been decent for the Bucs at the hot corner in Kang's absence, so there's no guarantee that Kang will get a starting job upon his return. He'll have to hit a lot better than he was going to get consistent playing time.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang (oblique) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Kang hasn't been hitting well this season, so it's probably not the worst thing in the world to give him some rest. Kevin Newman will draw the start at third base and bat seventh versus lefty Robbie Ray on Monday. Colin Moran figures to draw the starts at third base against right-handed pitching.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. It appears this is just a normal rest day for Kang. Colin Moran will bat sixth and play third base versus righty Frankie Montas. Moran can be avoided as a fantasy option for Sunday.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers. Kang's single in the second inning broke a 0-for-18 slump and was his first hit in over a week. Kang is slashing just .143/.217/.333 on the season and should be left on the waiver wire until he shakes off the rust from his two-year MLB layoff.
