Kevin Kramer News
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Kevin Kramer has been acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Nathan Kirby. An interesting move by the Brewers to take a chance on a .152/.222/.165 hitter. This appears to be a depth move ahead of the trade deadline. Kirby has missed multiple seasons due to injury, but appears healthy now. He is posting a 1.93 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19/13 K/BB ratio across 18 2/3 innings in Double-A this season. Possibly, Kirby gets a chance in the Pirates bullpen later this season. Regardless, neither player is going to have fantasy value going forward.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Kevin Kramer underwent hip surgery and will be out for four to six months. With the 2020 season not likely to start until at least early July because of COVID-19, this effectively will end Kramer's chances of playing this year. The 26-year-old has played in only 43 major league games the last two seasons and has hit a weak .152/.222/.165 with no home runs and nine RBI in 79 at-bats with the Pirates. The second-round pick in 2015 hit .260/.335/.417 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI in 113 games with Triple-A Indianapolis last year. Kramer wasn't going to be on anyone's fantasy radar, even entering a normal full season in 2020.
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Kevin Newman (finger) has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 9, the team announced on Thursday. In his place, Pittsburgh has recalled infielder Kevin Kramer from Triple-A and he will join the team immediately in Chicago. Kramer is the Pirates sixth-ranked prospect, according to MLBPipeline. In six games at Triple-A Indianapolis, he has six hits, including four doubles, and two runs batted in. He'll mostly see pinch-hit appearances and spot starts in the infield, with the exception of first base. He can't be considered a fantasy option outside of dynasty formats, as his stay in the majors is dependent on other player's availability.
