Peter Bourjos News
The Los Angeles Angels designated outfielder Peter Bourjos and pitcher Chris Stratton for assignment on Tuesday to make room for designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow), third baseman Zack Cozart (neck) and relief pitcher Cody Allen (back). Infielder Luis Rengifo was also optioned to the minors. The 32-year-old Bourjos was seeing limited playing time and hit just .091/.109/.144 in 46 plate appearances. Stratton had allowed 28 runs on 43 hits (six homers) and 18 walks with 22 strikeouts in his 29 1/3 innings for the Halos.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Peter Bourjos could be in line for more playing time the rest of the week with star outfielder Mike Trout dealing with a groin injury. Bourjos earned a spot out of spring training by slashing .283/.345/.547 but has started off the season 1-for-21 (.048). Bourjos has tantalized teams in the past with his skill set and speed but has failed to put it together at the big league level. Despite an increase in playing time forthcoming, teammate Brian Goodwin is a better fantasy option than Bourjos while Trout is sidelined.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Peter Bourjos has made the Opening Day 25-man roster. As a result, Matt Thaiss, Wilfredo Tovar, and Roberto Pena have been sent down to the minors. Bourjos has made his rounds around the league for being a bench outfielder that can play some good defense, but has never been one to trust at the plate. He'll most likely be the first in line when Mike Trout or Justin Upton need a rest. Bourjos killed Spring Training, hitting .283 / .345 / .547 with 10 runs, 10 RBI, and three home runs, however, has a career .293 batting average in Spring Training. He's historically been unable to repeat his spring success in the regular season and therefore, holds no fantasy value going into the 2019 season.
