The Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent shortstop Richie Martin to a minor-league deal on Tuesday with an invitation to major-league spring training. Martin comes to the Reds after playing only 13 games at the major-league level for the Baltimore Orioles in 2022. He went 5-for-30 with no homers, three RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases. The 28-year-old has played in three MLB seasons, all with the Orioles, and has a career slash line of just .212/.261/.311 with a .572 OPS, seven home runs, 34 RBI, 42 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 170 games. He'll have a better shot at sticking in the big leagues with the rebuilding Reds, but even if he does, he'll be well off the fantasy radar in most leagues.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin (wrist) has been activated from the injured list ahead of their game against the New York Yankees on Monday. The 26-year-old hasn't played at the MLB level since 2019 and has most recently missed over two months because of a broken left wrist. Martin doesn't hold much fantasy value with just one solid season in the majors under his belt, and given his battles with injuries over the years, managers can move past him for now.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin (wrist) began his hitting progression on Friday. The 26-year-old is on track toward a return after being out for nearly two months because of a broken left wrist. Although Martin doesn't have much fantasy value in anything outside of dynasty formats, at least at the moment, he is a viable option for runs and stolen bases if he returns to the big club. However, he needs to remain healthy, something that has been an issue over the years.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin (wrist) is expected to start hitting by the middle of July. The oft-injured speedster has been plagued by a broken left wrist, which he sustained during an outing at Triple-A Norfolk over a month ago. At the moment, Martin has little-to-no fantasy value in anything outside of dynasty formats. However, if he can remain healthy, the upside is there, especially as it relates to scoring runs and his ability to get it done on the base path. If all goes well, the 26-year-old could return at some point, possibly in August.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin (wrist) will be out for up to three months. The speedster is currently dealing with a broken left wrist, an injury suffered on Tuesday at Triple-A Norfolk. This isn't good news for the 26-year-old, especially after he missed the entire 2020 campaign with a break in the other wrist. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats without room to spare should consider dropping him, primarily since he hasn't been able to remain healthy over the years.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin (wrist surgery) and starting pitcher Ty Blach (Tommy John surgery) are scheduled to have their respective surgeries this Wednesday, per MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko. Martin broke his wrist during an intrasquad game over the weekend and Blach had recently felt soreness in his pitching elbow. Given the length of recovery time for these surgeries, both Martin and Blach are now out of fantasy consideration for the shortened 2020 season.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin (hand) was scratched from the lineup on Thursday with a left hand injury. Jonathan Villar is moving to shortstop, while Jace Peterson mans the keystone and hits ninth against Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough. Consider Martin day-to-day for now. Peterson is a desperation DFS lottery ticket on Thursday, as he's hitting .233/.280/.360 with only two home runs, 11 RBI and four steals in 86 at-bats at the major league level this year. Villar is a much more acceptable daily pick, mainly for his wheels.
