New York Yankees relief pitcher Ryan Weber (elbow) may need Tommy John surgery. The 32-year-old has appeared in 14 1/3 innings in eight games this season, amassing a 3.14 ERA with seven strikeouts. Unfortunately, he landed on the 15-day injured list on June 3 because of right forearm and elbow discomfort, which resulted in a visit to a specialist. Weber is still trying to avoid going under the knife by undergoing treatment, including a platelet-rich plasma injection and rehab. But whatever happens regarding the injury, not many fantasy managers will be negatively impacted.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Ryan Weber was recalled from Triple-A on Sunday, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Weber was claimed off waivers from Milwaukee a week ago, after tossing one scoreless inning of relief for the Brewers. It was only his second appearance of the year, which went much better than his first appearance when he was still with the Red Sox, where he allowed 11 runs on 13 hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings of work. He's looked better at Triple-A this year, posting a 4.75 ERA, 1.373 WHIP and 23.8 percent strikeout rate over 47 1/3 innings pitched. One can hope that he will be able to turn things around in Seattle, but until he shows improvement, there's no reason to have him rostered in any format.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Ryan Weber is the newest member of the team, as he was claimed off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. Weber has bounced around the league this year, starting with the Red Sox before being claimed by the Brewers, and now the Mariners. He's only thrown 6 2/3 innings this year in two appearances, and given up 11 earned runs. Weber was optioned to Triple-A, and third baseman Wyatt Mathisen was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to make space on the roster. He is not expected to make a fantasy impact this season, but stranger things have happened in a fluid Seattle bullpen.
Michael Chavis Recalled; Ryan Weber Designated For Assignemnt
Boston Red Sox infielder Michael Chavis was recalled from Triple-A Worcester prior to Monday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He did not appear Monday. For the season, Chavis has produced a .758 OPS with one home run in 33 at-bats. He does not figure to receive a significant amount of playing time or be relevant for fantasy purposes. Relief pitcher Ryan Weber was designated for assignment to make room for Chavis, just one day after throwing 5 2/3 innings in long relief.
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Ryan Weber was left out to dry Sunday, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings in relief of starter Martin Perez. He struck out seven batters. The Red Sox were already down 5-1 when Weber entered the game, and it became clear the right-hander was being sacrificed in order to save the bullpen. It's likely Weber will be demoted to the minors before Monday's game in favor of a fresh arm. He isn't a factor for fantasy purposes.
Ryan Weber Joins Red Sox Roster; Brandon Brennan DFA'd
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Ryan Weber was selected from Triple-A Worcester Sunday, and will be the long man out of the bullpen if needed against Toronto. Relief pitcher Brandon Brennan was designated for assignment to make room, after throwing three scoreless innings in Saturday's game. Weber does not figure to be a factor for fantasy purposes, and his stay in Boston ultimately may be brief.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Dylan Covey was recalled by the team and fellow hurler Ryan Weber was sent to the team's alternate training site in a corresponding move on Saturday. The writing was on the wall for Weber, who allowed 15 hits, 11 runs and nine walks in 20 innings pitched. Covey, who owns a career 6.56 ERA, doesn't exactly have a great track record either but this is the position Boston is in right now. They simply need arms right now with Chris Sale (elbow) and Eduardo Rodriguez (illness) done for the year.
Ryan Weber, Brian Johnson Have Become Rotation Candidates
Boston Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said that pitchers Ryan Weber and Brian Johnson are rotation candidates to join Eduardo Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi and Martin Perez now that Chris Sale (elbow) needs Tommy John surgery. Johnson, a lefty, has made 25 starts for the BoSox over the last three years, but he posted an ERA just above 6.00 with a weak 6.9 K/9 in 40 1/3 innings, including seven starts, in 2019. Weber has made 11 starts in his five-year career with the Braves, Mariners, Rays and Red Sox, and he had a weak 5.09 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 40 2/3 innings for Boston last year. At best, both of these pitchers will be candidate for depth in AL-only leagues if they're forced into Boston's starting rotation whenever the regular season starts.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Ryan Weber struck out four batters, allowed just one hit and threw four scoreless innings in Monday's 2-1 victory against the Braves. Weber has continued to build on his productive start to the spring, as the 29-year-old has totaled an ERA of 0.00, along with six hits allowed and a K/BB ratio of 11/0 through nine scoreless innings this spring. The right-handed pitcher has earned praise from interim manager Ron Roenicke, who stated that "he's doing everything he can to help us make a really tough decision into an easy decision," regarding Weber's chances of earning a rotation spot to begin the season. With two open spots in the Red Sox rotation as a result of the David Price trade and Chris Sale injury, Weber has become a strong candidate to begin the campaign as a starter, but his career 5.04 ERA in the Major Leagues suggests that the right-hander should likely begin the season on the waiver wire in standard leagues or earn consideration in extremely deep AL-only formats.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Ryan Weber is the likely candidate to start Thursday's series finale against the Royals, with reliever Mike Shawaryn to follow in a long relief role. Red Sox manager Alex Cora mentioned that it will not be an opener situation. Weber has recorded an ERA of 4.50 to go along with 13 strikeouts and three walks through 18 innings of work. The 28-year-old could be avoided in mixed leagues for tomorrow afternoon's start.
