Damian Lillard Doesn't Plan to Play This Season

Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) told reporters during media day that he doesn't plan to play this season. "I don't plan on it," Lillard said. "I feel like if this team is a one seed [without me], they probably got it. I'm trying to be as healthy as possible." Lillard underwent surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon in early May. There's no reason to rush back from such a serious injury, and it makes sense for him to sit out the entire 2025-26 campaign. With Scoot Henderson (hamstring) also unavailable, Jrue Holiday and Shaedon Sharpe will have a massive role to play in the Portland backcourt at the start of the season.

Damian Lillard Not Rushing His Return

Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) plans to take his time with rehab and aims to be in top shape when he returns. "I'm going to take my time to get all the way back, get it fully healed, get it strong, and feel confident on it," Lillard said on an episode of The Sideline with Andy Katz. "I want to get my body all the way back in shape so that when I return to the floor, I'm not coming back as a shell of myself. I plan to return and be myself." Lillard is expected to sit out the entire 2025-26 season due to a torn Achilles. He'll be 36 by the time the 2026-27 campaign comes around, but the veteran star seems confident about his ability to return in All-Star form.

Damian Lillard Returning to Portland

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, free-agent guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract to return to the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, spent 11 seasons with the Blazers before being traded to Milwaukee in September 2023. Unfortunately, he wasn't nearly as productive with the Bucks, most recently averaging 24.9 points throughout the 2024 campaign, 7.3 points fewer than he has in his final year in Portland. Lillard also battled numerous health issues last season, including a blood clot in his calf and a torn Achilles sustained during the postseason. After the Bucks waived him this offseason, it was reported Lillard wasn't in a rush to sign with a team. However, he will now rehab before once again suiting up for the Blazers, where he'll have a chance to revive his career.

Damian Lillard Drawing Interest from the Celtics

Free-agent guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) is apparently drawing interest from the Boston Celtics. The 34-year-old, who was released by the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason, is not in a rush to sign with a team. However, Jayson Tatum (Achilles) has reportedly spearheaded efforts to lure him to Boston. Lillard wasn't nearly as productive in Milwaukee after being traded by the Trail Blazers, most recently averaging 24.9 points during the 2024 campaign, 7.3 points fewer than he had in his final season in Portland. He also dealt with a blood clot in his calf before eventually tearing his Achilles during the postseason. The C's are willing to give him a multi-year contract. He also may sign for less due to the Bucks still on the hook for $112.6 million. With that in mind, Lillard could certainly benefit from a move to the Celtics, so he's worth stashing on dynasty rosters until he's back on the floor.

Damian Lillard "Open" to Signing With a Team This Offseason

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, free-agent guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) is reportedly "open" to signing with a team. However, he will only agree to a contract "under the right terms and conditions." The 2012 No. 6 overall pick averaged 24.9 points and 7.1 assists last season. Unfortunately, he was limited to 58 games, mostly due to deep vein thrombosis in his right calf. While Lillard managed to return for the playoffs, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the Game 4 meeting with the Indiana Pacers, requiring surgery. Lillard, who is currently rehabbing, was recently released by Milwaukee. It's unknown if he'll be able to get on the floor this season. With that in mind, there should be teams interested in Lillard's services, so fantasy managers should keep an eye on his progress, potentially stashing him in case he's cleared for action at some point during the 2025 campaign.

Damian Lillard Waived By Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Bucks are waiving guard Damian Lillard and stretching the $113 million remaining on his contract, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. ESPN's Bobby Marks reports that it is the largest waive and stretch in NBA history. Lillard's tenure with the Bucks comes to a surprising end after two seasons. The All-NBA guard was set to miss most, if not all, of the 2025-26 season after tearing his Achilles tendon in May. Because of his unlikely availability, the soon-to-be 35-year-old became a cap casualty with Milwaukee adding center Myles Turner and guard Gary Harris in free agency, while retaining forwards Bobby Portis and Taurean Prince, and guard Kevin Porter Jr. Lillard, who finished 10th in scoring (24.9) and assists (7.1) last season, will now be on the hunt for a new team.

Damian Lillard Undergoes Successful Surgery

Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) underwent surgery on Friday to repair a torn left Achilles sustained during a postseason loss to the Indiana Pacers. There is no timetable for his return. The multi-time All-Star averaged 24.9 points in his second season with the Bucks, up from the 2023-24 campaign. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as close to the career-high 32.2 points he averaged in his final year in Portland. It's unknown how the Milwaukee roster will look moving ahead. It's also not clear if Lillard has already played his final game with the Bucks. With that in mind, his redraft value can't get any lower heading into next season. However, dynasty managers should avoid any low-ball offers, especially since Lillard could have at least a few more productive years left in the tank once he's cleared to get back on the floor.

Damian Lillard May Not Play Next Season

Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) suffered a torn left Achilles during Sunday's Game 4 loss to the Pacers. An MRI confirmed the diagnosis, with the multi-time All-Star set to undergo surgery. He will miss the rest of the postseason, which isn't surprising. However, because of the severity of the injury and how close it occurred to the end of the 2024-25 campaign, Lillard may not be able to suit up next season. The former Trail Blazer logged 58 games in his second year with the Bucks, averaging 24.9 points, 7.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 37.6% shooting from behind the arc. Obviously, this is a tough blow to the Bucks, a team that is one game away from being bounced from the playoffs. Ryan Rollins, who started in Game 1, could find himself back with the first-five, although Kevin Porter Jr., coming off a 23-point effort in Game 4, could benefit the most from Lillard's absence.

Damian Lillard Will Have His Minutes Monitored Tuesday

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard (calf) will return from a 15-game absence on Tuesday against the Indiana Pacers but may have a limited workload. According to Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, Lillard will start the contest, but the team plans to monitor his conditioning and minutes. After being sidelined for several weeks due to a blood clot in his right calf, Lillard has participated in only three practices with the Bucks. Lillard is set to replace Ryan Rollins in the starting lineup.

Damian Lillard Cleared To Play Tuesday

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard (calf) will be back in action on Tuesday against the Indiana Pacers. He has been cleared to return from a deep-vein thrombosis in his right calf, which sidelined Lillard for the final weeks of the regular season and Game 1 against the Pacers. Lillard's presence is sure to provide a boost for the Bucks, who lost Saturday's series opener 117-98. However, the nine-time All-Star struggled in this matchup during the regular season, scoring only 18.3 points per game on 35.5 percent shooting from the field.
