Derik Queen is Unavailable on Friday

New Orleans Pelicans center Derik Queen (quadriceps) is ruled out ahead of Friday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. He will sit this game out after suffering a quad injury during Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Bulls. He was questionable heading into this game, so this doesn't sound like something that will cause a lengthy absence. Without Queen, the Pelicans will likely lean on Yves Missi and Kevon Looney during Friday's game. Missi is the better streaming choice between the two players for Friday's slate. He should at least be able to offer low-end streaming value without Queen on the court.

Derik Queen Facing First Career Absence Friday

New Orleans Pelicans center Derik Queen (quadriceps) is questionable for Friday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The rookie big man could miss his first career game due to a left quadriceps contusion. Queen has been New Orleans' starting center since mid-November, averaging 14.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 blocks in the first unit. If Queen isn't cleared to play, Yves Missi and Kevon Looney will split the minutes at the five spot in a good fantasy matchup against a team that gives up the sixth-most fantasy points to centers.

Derik Queen Posts Massive Triple-Double In Loss To Spurs

New Orleans Pelicans forward/center Derik Queen erupted for 33 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and four blocks in 33 minutes during Monday's 135-132 loss to San Antonio, marking the best performance of his young career. The rookie is averaging 17.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists across his last five games while shooting 51.8 percent, and his role remains secure with Zion Williamson (adductor) still sidelined and the Pelicans leaning heavily on their starters. Queen should be added in competitive formats, with Trey Murphy III and Saddiq Bey benefiting from the stability his play provides.

Derik Queen Has No Set Return Date

New Orleans Pelicans center Derik Queen (wrist) doesn't have an exact return date, according to Joe Dumars, the club's head of basketball operations. The rookie big man underwent surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament in mid-July. It was announced that he will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks. Unfortunately, this means Queen could be out for the entire preseason, as he's scheduled for re-evaluation in mid-October. The injury will hinder Queen's chances of making a strong early impression. He already has a battle on his hands for playing time, with Yves Missi, Karlo Matkovic, and Kevon Looney providing New Orleans with solid depth at the center position.

Derik Queen Undergoes Surgery

New Orleans Pelicans center Derik Queen (wrist) underwent surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament, an injury he picked up during Summer League play. He will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks. The rookie appeared in three contests in Las Vegas, averaging 14.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 blocks. Unfortunately, Queen will now miss most (if not all) of training camp. He's also expected to be sidelined to begin the 2025 campaign. While this shouldn't impact his dynasty value, his redraft stock will likely take a hit, even more so if he needs more time to rehab. It's unknown how Queen will fit into the rotation upon his return, although it appears Karlo Matkovic and Kevon Looney could benefit by getting more minutes behind Yves Missi.

Derik Queen Collects Third Consecutive Double-Double in Summer League Loss

New Orleans Pelicans center Derik Queen recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal in 28 minutes on the floor in Tuesday's 93-87 Summer League loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Queen has now posted a double-double in three consecutive Summer League outings, averaging 14.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 blocks across 27.3 minutes per game. The playmaking big man's strong performance at Summer League could lead to a significant role in New Orleans frontcourt to kick off the upcoming campaign.
