Jaren Jackson Jr. Good to Go Against Phoenix

Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (illness) is available to play on Wednesday against Phoenix. The Grizzlies are down Cedric Coward (ankle) and Ja Morant (calf), among others, so the team couldn't afford another absence. Fortunately, that's not the case with 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. With so many absences for Memphis on Wednesday evening, Jackson should be more productive than usual.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Downgraded to Questionable For Wednesday

Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. (illness) is questionable for Wednesday's matchup with the Phoenix Suns. Jackson was previously tagged as probable, but he has since been downgraded to questionable due to feeling under the weather. In 34 games this campaign, the 26-year-old big man is averaging 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks across 30.4 minutes per outing. The Grizzlies frontcourt could also be without Santi Aldama (ankle), who is considered questionable due to soreness in his right ankle.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Cleared to Play Against Denver

Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. (ankle) has been cleared to play Monday against the Nuggets after missing the previous two games. Jackson averaged 18.0 points with 5.4 rebounds and 1.0 block over his last five outings and should immediately reclaim his usual workload and shot volume. His return bumps Santi Aldama back to the bench, though Aldama remains a hold thanks to steady production, including 20 points and eight rebounds in his last appearance. Managers should expect Aldama's minutes to fluctuate while Jackson resumes his role as Memphis' primary frontcourt scorer.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Doubtful as Grizzlies Face Mavericks

Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. (ankle) is doubtful for Saturday's matchup against the Mavericks after already missing Thursday's win over Sacramento. Jackson has averaged 17.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 29 minutes this season, but his absence again would push Santi Aldama into another start after he delivered 29 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 27 minutes on Thursday. Zach Edey and Jock Landale also produced well in expanded roles and remain useful streamers for blocks and boards if Jackson sits. Managers should treat Aldama as the priority add, with Edey offering upside in deeper formats while the frontcourt redistributes minutes and usage without Jackson.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Out Against Sacramento, Santi Aldama Starting

Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (ankle) won't play on Thursday versus Sacramento. He tweaked his ankle during the recent loss to the San Antonio Spurs, resulting in his first absence of the 2025 campaign. Fantasy managers are certainly hoping he'll be back on the floor for Saturday's game in Dallas. However, as far as Thursday's contest is concerned, Santi Aldama will make his first start of the year. Aldama is averaging 12.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals this season, although he should be more productive as a member of the starting lineup, especially with Ja Morant (calf) sidelined.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Likely Out on Thursday

Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. (ankle) is considered doubtful for Thursday's Western Conference tilt against the Sacramento Kings. The former Defensive Player of the Year has sustained a right ankle sprain. So far, Jackson Jr. has played in all 15 Grizzlies games, averaging 17.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks. His absence on Thursday would likely result in Santi Aldama moving to the first unit. Even as a bench player, Aldama has been productive, but a starting job would add a bit more fantasy value to the Spaniard. Thursday's game is a wonderful fantasy matchup for the Grizzlies, as Sacramento has the fourth-worst defense in the Association but plays at the fifth-highest pace.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Busy in Preseason Debut

Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. (toe) made his preseason debut in Wednesday's matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, notching 17 points in 22 minutes during a 145-116 loss. Jackson Jr. was very active offensively, taking 20 shots from the field. Unfortunately, he made only seven attempts. Three of his makes came from downtown on nine shots. Jackson Jr. also grabbed a pair of rebounds and had one block with one assist. Seeing Jackson Jr. on the floor Wednesday night will have been a pleasant surprise for fantasy managers, as he was initially expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 regular season due to offseason toe surgery. The Grizzlies star will get one more preseason game on Friday against the Miami Heat to work himself into shape before things get serious.

Grizzlies Star Jaren Jackson Jr. To Miss Start of Season

Center Jaren Jackson Jr. (toe) is expected to miss the start of the season, as the Memphis Grizzlies announced he is still four to six weeks away from returning after undergoing a July 2 procedure to repair turf toe in his right foot. While he has started ramping up basketball activities, he remains at least a month from being game-ready, putting his return timeline in late October or early November. Jackson is still considered a strong fantasy option after averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks last season, and he remains an essential piece of Memphis' core once healthy.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Progressing in Recovery

Memphis Grizzlies center/forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (toe) underwent a procedure in July to address a turf toe injury, and it appears he's progressing well. The former Defensive Player of the Year said, "I'm feeling good. I'm progressing the right way. I'm doing what I need to do. Every day has been a building block." There isn't a firm timetable on his return, but the team originally said that they'd reevaluate his status around the start of training camp. Now that the Grizzlies dealt away Desmond Bane, they'll need all hands on deck this coming season if they want to return to the playoffs. Jackson had one of his healthiest seasons in 2024-25, but averaged just below 30 minutes per game. With that being said, he still registered 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per contest with shooting percentages of .488/.375/.781.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Has Surgery to Repair a Turf Toe Injury

On Wednesday, the Memphis Grizzlies announced forward Jaren Jackson Jr. underwent successful surgery to repair a turf toe injury in his right foot and will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks. Jackson will likely be good to go for the start of the regular season. The 25-year-old just signed a massive five-year, $240 million extension with Memphis. Despite the offseason setback, he is deserving of a new contract extension based on the numbers he has been producing over the last few years. During the 2024-25 campaign, the big man averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across 29.8 minutes per game in 74 appearances. When healthy, Jackson holds plenty of fantasy value and should continue to do so during the 2025-26 season.
